Oh the clumps! The Icequeen Method
There was a thread started 3 days ago about getting clumps with Deva. As a lot of you don't use Deva you probably skipped that thread so I thought I'd share what technique Icequeen shared about how to use your conditioner.
.
I really think this is making such a difference in my clumps forming. I usually don't get big or even medium clumps. I get small ones. I would look at the pics of the wavies on here and long for the clumps they were getting. After a while I just figured it wasn't what my hair was going to do so I let it go. Then I saw the thread and after Icequeen posted I figured I'd pull my Deva out of the cabinet and give it a go. My hair looked GREAT and I had CLUMPS. So the next day I figured I'd try it with my other condish and products to see if it was just the Deva. Again my hair did the same thing...great clumps. And yesterday I did it again with some samples I got from KathyMack (I actually had 2nd day hair for once but couldn't wait to try new stuff ) and again I had good results. I really think this is making a huge difference and I wanted to make sure that all you who don't use Deva at least had a chance to try it. BTW if I'm not mistaken, this is how Lorraine Massey herself conditioned Icequeen's hair at a curly event a few years ago.
http://public.fotki.com/JessCurls/going-cg/1000867.html Day 1 All Deva
http://public.fotki.com/JessCurls/going-cg/1000877.html Day 2 GVP condish balm, homemade FSG, BRHG
http://public.fotki.com/JessCurls/going-cg/1000890.html Day 3 KBB milk and Curl Junkie CCCC, I didn't use a gel, hence the frizz
There are more in my Fotki if you want to check them out. And TRY THIS! Thanks again Icequeen!

Sounds very interesting. So in the day 2 pics, did you rake in the FSG and BRHG or how did you apply these? When I first started CG (mod) I had good clumping, but now I'm getting little clumps. This is not so bad, but I would like to get bigger clumps too. TIA.

Oh my goodness, this technique totally works!!! I was so skeptical (as always), but I tried it today, and I have the most awesome clumpy hair. I have curls EXACTLY like this today, only shorter hair:

Wow.

I smoothed in the FSG then scrunched so the clumps came back then just scrunched the BRHG. If I rake anything I have tiny little clumps. I did have to SOTC with a tiny bit of coconut oil when fully dry but it was beautiful and frizz free all day.
Finch I'm so glad it worked. Yay!

Wow! My hair is only about 65% dry, but talk about the curls I'm getting!
I hope this lasts - normally, my problem seems to be that with every new method or product I try, it works for a few days, and then I go back to the same old problems of drooping. So, fingers crossed, if this works for good, I'll be happy as all get-out!

Well with the disturbing news about KCCC today I really needed a good hair day. LUCKILY, I tried this today not with DEVA but with LVPNG. I used Mop-C mixed with Lustrasilk SHEA-Mango as a styler. NO GEL which is unheard of for my MOP. I spritzed with some Glisten to me and TADA! Great Day!!!!! I was worried about over-conditioning but nope, worked like a charm

Pretty hair, Jess the Mess!
Months ago, I read on StruttsWife's site that she applies conditioner this way and so I've been doing it, too. It really does work -- and with pretty much any conditioner (but she uses OneC). The woman is a genius. And so is icequeen, apparently!

Slight GUANO but don't know where else to put this. Strutts wife had said that using SIF while diffusing is a way to calm the frizzies that can POP up. I've tried this with SIF and also with my homemade Glisten to me and have had GREAT results with this method. I suppose a Spray Gel would do the trick as well but mine are so diluted that it doesn't seem to work and I don't have a good commercial spray gel right now.

It's Lorraines recipe from the Curly Girl Handbook. Her original recipe is 50/50 Lavender Spray & Veg Glycerin. I use the 4oz sprat bottles and put 1/4 Glycerin and fill the rest with water. It was too heavy for me 50/50. It works great though!!

I am sooo glad everyone is finding success with this method. I used it today with some Curl Junkie products I'm experimenting with and it worked like a charm, as always.
