I am loving all the photos!
Still, it's hard to know how a stylist would interpret a request for a bob. From what I see here, "bob"=hair that's above shoulder length.

Hey Verity, yes, I'd also think a bob is hair that when it's dry is above shoulder length. To be sure to get what you want or at least to let your stylist know what you have in mind, I suggest you take a picture of the style you want.

I always thought that hair that is "bobbed" has a certain "bluntness" to the bottom of the cut. Here's the definition that was on wikipedia, "A "bob cut" is a short haircut for men and women in which the hair is typically cut straight around the head at about jaw-length, often with a fringe (or "bangs") at the front."

I LOVE all of your bobs I, to have a bob right now (in siggy). I was thinking about growing it longer w/ more layers (like in my avatar) but may just keep it this way!

Hey! Don't worry about the thickness factor. I have had my bob for a little while and I have really thick 3a hair. It looked gorgeous and fine...even not as thick and lightweight b/c of the layers in the back. Although the pic in my signature is not the bob.

Just want to say that this thread is really helpful, I am getting my hair cut in a couple of weeks & I want to go for about a shoulder length bob, some great advice on here, thanks everyone!
I had better start shopping for headbands though as I really need my hair off my face for work.

I love my hair My hair was almost BSL and I recently let my deva trained stylist do whatever she thought fit with my hair. I ended up with shaggy looking bob (at least I think it can be called a bob) and I love it!!!!! So much easier to take care of.
Updated pictures in my Fotki.

Your hair looks great that length redhedgrlT, I think that's about the length I want, not too short but short enough for no more knots in my hair because its got tangled in my scarf, my collar, my zip ...etc.. Its cold & windy here in the UK at the moment!

Thank you! And yes it is much easier at this length. Dries faster, easier to manipulate ..... etc. I am very happy with it.

Well I had my hair cut about a couple of weeks ago & am loving having a bob. I have been wearing my hair down every day & a couple of days I have worn a hair band. I don't miss wearing my hair up but I do miss not being able to pineapple at night anymore but I am finding that I have re-discovered my water spray, a few squirts & a bit of scrunching I can get 2nd day & even 3rd day hair no problem.
Don't get me wrong I loved having long hair & there may come times when I miss it but I was really in need of a change of style!

Bob
I am growing out my pixie haircut. Right now I have an asymmetrical bob. The left side and back is pixie length, and the right side is ear/chin length.
I love bobs. I am only growing my hair to apl, but I always want to stop right below my chin. Hopefully, I'll make it.

I'm growing out an inverted bob and I like the length in the front which, due to the angle, is longer than the back.
I think I'll keep growing the back out until it's a length I like and then have the front trimmed to match. I just don't think I'm an inverted bob girl. I've only recently been able to do a half-pinapple at night and my hair behaves much better when it is a bit longer than when is pretty short at the back.
I'll probably end up with a longer length bob and won't go really long again but trying to make an inverted bob look good everyday is harder than when the hair is all one length.

I want to get a shoulder length angled bob. My concerns are not being able to put my hair in a pony tail and dealing with my hair at night. I have to be at work very early so I wash and wet pineapple at night. How do I wash at night with a bob? Would plopping work?

I got mine cut recently into an angled bob cut and I can still pineapple to an extent - the front parts (longest) will go into the pineapple - the back bit which is shorter doesn't so I use kirby grips (bobby pins) and pin it up at the back. It should still go into a pony tail (depending on the length of your front bits) - mine does and it should go as high on your head as the length of the back part. HTH

Well I was planning on growing my hair out to BSL like it was before I went CG but this thread and the warm weather has me itching to go short again, and my next scheduled hair cut is June so by that point I will definitely want to get my hair cut. Right now my hair comes down to about my armpits, but this is what it looked like before I decided to grow it out. I miss it being short. I had a slightly inverted bob/short cut, in case you can't tell from the picture.
