Question Thanks and scared

Ok I have to admitt I am a bit scared. I haven't cut my hair I guess in over 4 years short of a trim and shaping it up. Everyone says they love my hair. At this moment it is just past where my bra hooks. I have worn a bob before and love it. Much lighter and even less time to fix. HOWEVER, I am a bit nervous about going back to that style. I know it is hair mine grows pretty quick. So I will let you know what I decide
Thanks Kathy for suggesting this forum to me may help me get some idead

You can always go with a shoulder length bob and work your way up to where you are comfortable.

Oh fun, I wanna play! I go back and forth between a bob and long hair, currently in bob state. I agree with what most have said here, it's quite fun and sassy!

Default I have joined the Curly Bob Brigade!

I haven't cut my hair in 1 year... x-post from the thread I started about my hair cut
Quote:
so, I got a curly bob last Friday, and am pretty happy with it. The Deva trained stylist layered it well so it looks pretty good. I haven't had this short hair for over a year so I forgot that it's much harder to get beyond day 1 hair. I've only managed to get two days of good hair, then I have to re-wash and style the 3rd day. I guess I got spoiled with my long hair which was so easy to throw in a clip on day 4 or so.

When I can get decent pics of the new 'do, I'll post the before and after. I have to say how surprised I am at how much curlier my hair is. I think it could be classified as pretty much 3B now. It's very bouncy and the curl definition is really good.

I've gotten between 10-15 compliments this morning from coworkers and everyone's amazed my curls are natural vs a perm. Got some nice expressions of admiring envy...I could get used to compliments.

I discovered how much I love having a curly bob on accident, really. My last haircut, I was dead-set on a pixie cut. I hated my hair, it was awful to maintain and constantly needed layering, but even that still kept it frizzy and puffy and triangular, and just everything about it made me want a pixie cut. And, believe me, it was like a last measure, because I was the most unconfident, self-conscious person you could ever imagine. So I went in to get my hair cut, and the hairdresser (who I'd never been to before, since we'd recently moved far from our old home) saw my ringlets, heard I wanted it cut very short, and said, "Your hair is amazing! Let me try something, I think it'll work perfectly on you! And it's easy to maintain and short, but you'll still have some of your beautiful curly hair!".

So I reluctantly let her, figuring if I didn't like it she could then chop it all off, but then I realized I was absolutely in love with it. I didn't know my hair could get like that, frizz-less and perfectly curled and shaped, in basically no time at all and only about a dime sized of product at most, in the humid California weather! On top of it, I love the bob hairstyle. It worked even better to help my self-esteem than the pixie cut, as I got a huge confidence boost of having an actual unique hairstyle, especially a short one, different from other high schoolers trying to just have a mass of plain, long hair, and I could really embrace my curls more than ever before. And the bob is so sophisticated, and it's also really cute and fun, I can't describe it, but I feel like it perfectly fits my personality. I absolutely love everything about it.

I think the kind I got was called stacked, but basically it looked like Rihanna's curly bob. It was longest in the front, with a bit of edge to the bottom, and shorter in the back, and the whole thing kind of angled. It was all layered, too. I don't have any pictures of it, except this one, which was taken when it was starting to grow out, though, and since it's from the front you really can't tell the shape, and it's a little frizzier and not as shiny as when it was shorter:

I haven't gotten it cut since then, but in trying to grow my hair out, I've realized I'm just sticking to the bob, so I'm hoping to get it cut again today! If I do, I'll take pictures and post them

^ I love your hair! That bob looks amazing on you.

I'm actually at bob length right now, it used to be a pixe cut. I can say I really like it, the only thing is it's not as curly and wavy as I'd like it, and that's because the shorter my hair is the less wavy and curly it is. My hair is kind of weird like that. If my hair grows past my chest it gets really straight cause of the extreme thickness weighing it down and if it gets cut above my ears or right at my ears all curl and wavy is completely gone. When I had my pixie and now that my hair is wavier and curling people are asking if it's natural cause they thought my hair was naturally straight. Anyway I really like the bob and I'd love to keep it but unless the CG method I started can help my waves and curls be much more defined at this length I'm going to continue to let it grow.

I'm sorry your curls aren't as defined, is your hair layered, and if so, do you have shorter layers on the top layers? That usually helps my hair curl better when it gets like that. Though that's odd that your curls are less defined as your hair is shorter! When I had long hair, it was a mix of waves and kind of straight-ish hair, and the shorter it is, the tighter ringlets I get.

Anyways, I didn't get my hair cut today, I'm getting it cut Tuesday. I'm so excited to have my short stacked bob back! I love it because I couldn't even mess it up if I tried. Even in extreme humidity, rain, wind, etc., nothing can mess it up! Even when people with usually flawless straight hair are frizzing up, my hair was still great when I first got it cut short, so I'm really happy to not spend all much time worrying about my hair again and just feel confident that it's looking great.

It's layered somewhat, not as short as the top layers were though, I may go to the salon and get shorter layers put in to see if it helps at all. Yeah it's strange, I don't understand how my curls and waves get less defined the shorter my hair is.

km - I think you go to a hairstylist somewhere near where I live. I'm in Newtown Square. Would you mind sharing where you get your hair cut and who cuts it? My hair isn't as curly as yours, but I'm looking for a new stylist. Thanks!!

I've gone to Thom Bernardo for 30 years and never gotten a bad cut or color! I reviewed him in '07, when I was just starting out (and liked Deva, before I knew about other products.) Millenium Day Spa in Wynnewood , Pennsylvania (United States)

I drive 50+ minutes to see him. It's well worth it. I didn't start out this curly, either. It's learning to use products and good technique.

Well??

Sorry for the delay - I tried to upload a photo from my iPhone yesterday, but it didn't work. Then we went off to dinner and a show....

But I had a great time with Thom. He's a lot of fun and gave me a great bob with soft waves. He styled my hair with no products. Just twirled and pinned a few pieces in the front and a couple in the back. It was a cute look. When I style it myself with curl cream or gel and scrunching, I tend to get a tighter curl pattern. It's nice to have options!
