Curly Bobs Unite! What's to like about it.

I am thinking I will probably get it professionally shaped as well...I want more layers, but am afraid to start cutting curl by curl. But this ponytail method is GREAT for a quick "get rid of the crap that's bugging you" solution. So far, still pretty happy I took the plunge.

Salia, I am going to take your picture in when I go...that's how my hair used to look and I want it back!!!

Ok, I got pics up on my fotki....Public Home | Curlymomo | Fotki.com, photo and video sharing made easy. (no password).

I think it turned out pretty good for a FREE, self cut! Actually, I like it better than a lot of salon cuts I've had.

My last hair cut by someone well known and adored, cut my hair so noticeably uneven... I know I won't do worse than that!

need advice**Hi everyone**need advice

I just graduated with my master's degree last week at the tender age of 40, and need to transition my look from the office assistant/pt student that I am to the career professional I'd like to be. If nothing else, it's a pep talk for me. I also want to lose 30lbs by this summer/fall, so on-the-go hair would be helpful.

It's not that I don't think curls are professional looking, which is why I am considering an inverted bob. I'm also open to just getting more layers and a trim. Either way, I want to make it an official "cut on the curl" Deva haircut. Any suggestions for stylists in the Syracuse/Liverpool/Skaneateles (CNY) area would be great.

I've been studying the different hair types and their rates of success with the bob, and I am afraid I don't have enough curl to support it. I bet you all will notice I have breakage and need some hydration, so feel free to suggest products and techniques as well.

Hope I can get some advice - don't be shy!

I am considering cutting my own hair...yikes! I have an above-the-shoulder bob that has been cut in the past in a slightly stacked layers all around kind of style. So it's like a slight V-shape from the bottom up, with a weight line at the eye area.

I think my stylist cut the layers by holding the hair at 90 degrees, and then maybe she angled the scissors to get the stacking effect. Can I do it this way myself? Would doing the back be too hard?

I think it would be nice, though, to have it a bit inverted (shorter in the back) too. Can I do this and have layers all around if I do the ponytail method? I have read lots of posts here and watched the cute video. Do you get pretty straight lines on the length with this method? Would the layers come out the same as what I got with the 90-degree cutting?

Also, should I cut dry or damp?

I don't know which method I should try. I think I have botticelli curls. It seemed to work fine to have my stylist cut my hair the same way she cuts straight hair.

Sorry to ask so many questions. I guess I need help! I am the kind of person who would think a challenge like this could be fun, and I would like the feeling of self-sufficiency in cutting my own hair!

Have you tried using the salon finder? That's how I found my salon and I'm really happy with it.

When you cut your hair, your curls won't be weighed down as much so you shouldn't have any problems. I say go for it!

@Greencurls
IMO, cutting your own hair in the back is too hard. Unless you're a straight across cut like in the videos, I think it would be almost impossible to do it well.

When I did the ponytail method, most of my layers were on the top and front. The back of my head was just one layer and it was pretty straight.
Here's some pictures of my haircut!

I got an inverted bob, which looks cute and will be cool for summer! I have layers on the sides too.

It was interesting because to start the cut, she combed all of my hair to the back, as though she was pulling it into a low ponytail, and made her first cut that way--just like the ponytail method in the video!
You guys are too sweet! Thank you!

@Greencurls, I'm glad it worked out for you! I'm liking the quick drying time of short hair.
@Greencurls, do you have pics?
@Salia, I only wish I could have curls like you

I cut over 20" off and donated my ponytail to the Locks Of Love. I always cut my own hair because I just don't trust anyone to take off just what I ask for.

After a loooong time growing out my bangs, I finally had them long enough to do an angled bob. I have lots of layering in it to give it height and fullness. I LOVE IT!
