Curly Bobs Unite! What's to like about it.

I think I may belong here now. Just got hair cut today and had nothing to do so I read this whole thread. I used to have hair to my waist and I had been trying to get long hair forever! I'm 34 and refused to be one of those people who cut just cause of their age. I then cut short cause my super long hair was too much work. I was told how much younger I looked and I was inclined to agree. So anyway I grew to BSL again...
Now I was going in to cut cause I was bored...I've looked essentially the same for years...and also I got some health issues coming up that aren't gonna let me spend 20 minutes in the shower every morning detangling. So now it's like to the bottom of my neck...I friggin love it...got some subtle ombré color too. She told me if I wanna go lighter I can just go back to her...she didnt wanna change me too much too quick. Anyhow...I think I'm gonna stop trying to have the real long hair...it kinda drags my face down...

I just got it done today and have been laying on it all day so tomorrow when I get a chance to re do it...I'll take a pic to post.

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.

It looks good, you have lovely curls!

Thanks...I just love it. I can't stop playing with it. I really feel it makes me look younger too. It takes like 10 minutes in the shower. So I may go redo it again just to see what else I can use in it...lol

I wore it up more than anything...it was kinda drab and I was told how much younger I looked when I cut it. I really felt I needed a change..and boy was this it..it's so bouncy and cute. She also did some subtle ombré...I may go back Saturday for her to lighten it more...I feel daring now...lol

Just wanted to say a big thank you to those who have posted in this thread. I have been wanting to chop off my long hair for years, and was looking for curly bob pictures for inspiration. I came across this thread and then read OperaCurls post about her DIY haircut. I couldn't quite believe what I read, and looking at the photo of her self-cut bob, I was just amazed that a DIY haircut could look so good.

So then I kept reading and saw other people had also had a go at cutting their own hair, and now I was getting inspired to try it myself. After spending a while on the net trying to get info and tips on how to cut my own curly bob, I finally had a go myself. I am so glad I did. I really like the shorter length, and I don't miss my long hair at all.

Obviously the result is not as good as if a professional was cutting my hair, and I probably need to get some decent scissors, but it wasn't a disaster, and it was free. I also have the confidence to keep snipping away if I decide I want to change/fix anything (which I probably will do).

I'm not one that seeks attention, but I've had plenty of compliments since I did the big chop, so I am thinking it probably doesn't look too horrid.

Anyway, just wanted to say thank you for giving me the idea and inspiration to go ahead and cut my own hair!

Soooo, I am definitely missing my curly bob! I got it cut last summer and now it's BSL.

TOO HOT!!! Missing the short hair soooo bad! Getting it cut ASAP.

I did it! Again

I've been trying to grow my hair out since some chemical damage about 8 months ago, and let some of the length go since then, but I finally cut most of it off and got what I wanted! I'll post pics later after I style today. I keep going through this cycle of wanting long hair, which I usually do look better with, but this cut makes me think I could keep this hair length forever. I also almost completely have my natural hair color now, which I haven't been naturally colored for years now. Kind of missing the burgundy, but I don't know if it would look better or worse at this length than what I have now. With my hair long, I always put it up. If I don't, it gets messy and I get hot and sweaty at work. This way I can wear it down and still be cool enough not to get annoyed with my hair.

I love it! I'm so glad I came back around.
Wurly, fine, thin, moderately to heavily porous. Mod CG.

I have been cutting my hair myself since I stopped straightening it earlier this spring. No stylist has ever been able to put layers in my hair that didn't look freakish. And it turns out all this time that I could just do it myself. I am never paying for a haircut again.

Type 2c: coarse, high-density, low porosity (so it would seem)
Avoiding protein and glycerin; going for soft, non-crunchy, frizz-free waves
CO & RO: Tresemme Naturals Moisture
Sealer: Olive oil
Leave-in/Styler: Kinky Curly Knot Today
DT: olive oil and honey
I currently have a curly bob. I got my mid length hair cut in May, and I love it. I don't want to go back to long hair right now. I'm loving my curly bob right now. I eventually want to cut my hair even shorter.

Here's my new cut! Never looks as good from the front in pictures as it does IRL. Also, thinking about coloring it again... Not sure I like my "natural" color. The pictures of it straight are two days after I flat ironed... It looks very Dana Scully-esque when I straighten using a blow dryer and leave the flat iron alone. Which in my book, is a definite plus! I absolutely love how my waves have really bounced up, especially in the back! He stacked the layers perfectly. I don't think I've ever been this excited about getting my hair cut. This experience has actually made me reconsider growing it out again.

Anyone have any thoughts on color? I'm looking to stay away from highlighting/going lighter, and am thinking of using a demi/semi to lessen the damage.

Spring is approaching (finally!) and I'm having a strong urge to cut my hair short, so I am reviving this thread!

I kept my hair short (just below chin length) before going CG because I just couldn't handle styling it all the time. Flash forward to now, I'm over a year CG, my hair is now at APL, and...I can't stand styling it! I just have too much hair, and I have never been a fan of long beauty routines. It takes soo long to dry right now, and I can't go to work with wet hair.

I have fine, dense, wavy hair (2b no scrunching, 2c with scrunching and gel). Any dense wavies have experience with short cuts? Half of me wants to get a pixie, half of me wants to play it safe and start with another bob.

Anyone else thinking of chopping some length off soon?
2b/c, high density
fine, medium porosity, normal elasticity
loves protein, hates polyquats
still searching for HGs
I go in for another cut at the end of March and I think I'm going to have her cut the back of my hair even shorter than she did before! I love the inverted bob. So much easier for me.

3B, fine, normal porosity, high density, medium width and length
Conditioner: Tresemme Naturals
Co-Wash: As I Am Coconut Co-Wash
Leave in Products: As I Am Leave-In, SM Smoothie/Milk
Air Dry

Looking for new products and methods to try!

I'd like to get my hair shorter, maybe a long bob that is shoulder length at its longest. I want to, but will my 2b-c hair lose curl if I cut it?

I may be biased because I do love the stacked A line bob, but you can always do a pixie if you hate it, or begin growing it out again, but if you hate your pixie, there's really not a lot you can do with it being so short except wait for it to grow out 6+ months.
