Curly Bobs Unite! What's to like about it.

Does anyone else have an issue as their bob grows that it takes on a "U" shape -- sort of longer in the back, but the front and sides appear shorter? I go for trims/shaping every 8 weeks, but I seem to lose the bob shape at about 4 weeks. I'm trying to have my hair grow longer, so I don't want to get trims every 4 weeks.

Conditioner/LI:
same for both -- whatever I have in the shower at the time (I experiment a lot)
Style: EcoStyler Olive Oil <3
Dry: Diffuse or air dry, or both...depends on my mood

I feel so much better knowing that I am not alone in this predicament! I wish I was skilled enough to blunt my bob myself in-between, but I don't want to screw it up or make it uneven.

I got my inverted bob in 2009 and it is definitely the best haircut I've ever had. It's the only time in my life that my hair has ever had a style! It is so versatile, too. I started longer, then got it shorter, then decided to let it grow for a while when I was pregnant, and it looked good at all different lengths. Right now I have the back pretty short, and the front pieces are longer, and I love it. The girl who cuts it (Deva trained) is fantastic! My hair is 3A, and actually gets curlier as it gets longer. I like the looser curls I have right now with it shorter, because it gives me a different look, and I know when I want them tighter again, I can just grow it out a little!

I never knew such thread exisst! Pre-CG, I usually had bob or lob, somewhat blunt with some disguised layers my stylist back home cleverly put into. But after going CG, I feel my top looks too flat with a lob. Plus, the heat of the summer got into me and I can't stand hair sticking at the back of my neck, so I mostly put it in a high bun.

There's no Deva-trained stylist here, but the girl who cut my hair also happens to rock her 3b curls. So I discussed my haircut with her and although she cut my hair wet, the result was so nice and I've been getting compliments.

This is how it looks. I just got back from the salon and I agreed for her to try a L'Oreal Serie Expert Curl Cream on my hair. The result wasn't as good as with my Suave mousse and FSG, though. She blow-dried the front to show me how to dress up my cut for more formal functions. The front still looks good even without blow-drying now. I probably just need to low-poo more often, because co-washing more than 2 times in a row lacking me some volume.

I just got an inverted bob yesterday. I know its new but I'm having some trouble styling it. Do you guys plop or diffuse? I have always done both with longer hair and did that today but I'm not sure if it's quite right and I didn't get the same results as I used to with long hair. I feel like I'm not able to get the right amount of volume at the root. I have attached some pictures so you can see what I mean. Any styling tips you guys could provide would be awesome. Thanks!

Oh btw I have fine mostly 3a/3b hair, low porosity, medium elasticity.

Today I co-washed with CurlJunkie Curl Assurance Smoothing Daily Hair Conditioner, used a little KKKT leave in, and deva curl ultra defining gel

I just couldn't use gel for the life of me. I get somewhat the same result you did with gel. That also includes at least a couple hours root clipping. And it's too tacky it pulled the clumps making my hair frizzy. I have much better luck with mousses and I can definitely skip root clipping.

What works for me best is something that is "lightweight heavy", as in it has some weight and slip to line up the curls without frizz, but lightweight that it doesn't flatten my cut. I mostly skip butters and oils overload, but craves good conditioning agents.

I don't plop and I don't diffuse.

I don't plop or diffuse either. And I don't use gel. If anything, I use the SM Mousse (over the milk and curl enhancing smoothie). I don't gt a lot of root lift either, but I do get better results if I use the clips. I also wash and go every day though, so there's that. After my hair has dried, I'll flip my head over and gently shake at the roots. This gives me a little more lift and scrunches out the crunch as well. It's definitely trial and error. I'm thinking of switching to a nighttime routine now that's it is winter.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't like her curly bob? I'm growing out my hair (after getting it chopped off to donate it). I miss my long hair. As I'm just a slight wavy, when it was long, my hair was truly wash-and-go. I could wash it at night, put it up in a loose bun, and then in the morning it was good to go. No need for styling. No need for product. Just shampoo and conditioner.

Now that it's short, it is so much more work! I have to style it. I have to use at least a LI and do conditioner-only styling. I can't sleep on it and just wake up and go - I have to style it in the morning. I miss my long hair! Fortunately it is just hair, so it will grow back.

I also find my curls/waves are so irregular, now that my hair is short. I have some 2A sections, some 2B, and even some sausage curls! It's a pain to deal with short!

This was my lovely long hair:

This is my bob, with no product, but LI that had to be scrunched out (so pretty much conditioner-only styling):

Reviving this thread because it's been so inspirational! I had a nightmare cut about a month ago (a stylist recommended by a coworker insisted on cutting it wet and then broke out the thinning shears! ), so I'm chopping off the fuzzy ball of who-knows-what at the nape of my neck with a Deva stylist tomorrow. I haven't had a bob in a long time, but reading all of these posts (yes, all 24 pages!) has left me very excited for the new 'do!

I stumbled onto this thread a few days ago and read the whole thing too. I've rocked a curly bob pretty much ever since going cg. Getting a trim in a few days, probly keeping it bobbed but a bit longer this time.

Here is the new 'do, fresh from the salon. Deva-Inspired stylist Lisa at Transformations in Ithaca, NY* left it a little longer than the photo I brought to minimize potential buyer's remorse (LOL). I love that my hair has a shape for the first time in years, and will likely go shorter next time. (I turned the photo right-side-up before attaching; don't know what happened there.)

*Shameless plug! To anyone who may live in the area: Transformations has several Deva-trained stylists and the cuts are outrageously inexpensive at $60. Everyone I observed while there looked great and was happy with the service they received.
