Short 3B to 3C clumping action?
My hair is currently a elongated 3A but with more curl patern than a 2C (so a 2D if existed...). But that's because my hair is really thick and heavy and it is long (jsut about elbow length). When i cut my hair, I KNOW it will be a 3B-3C combo b/c last time i cut it so short, it just kinda shrunk up! When it was short, i always straightened it because i didnt like it looking that short and curly like that! Looking back at the pictures, there was no clumping going one and it was hard- like too much gel hard. I'm wondering if this time around, knowing what i now know about CG, if i will be getting clumping? Has any of the short 3Bs and 3Cs gotten clumpy soft curls?

burgundy, I can't see your roots--but I think your hair is all in the curly range. The weight is just pulling them out.
In answer to your question about soft clumpy curls, I think moisture will be the key. The more natural products your starting to use (LOL) should really help. My hair is nowhere near as tightly curled as yours, but it's soft and springy all of the time. I suspect that yours will be, too--especially if you stay away from all of the chemicals.

Thanks KM. My roots have pretty deep curls. even if i were to slick it back in to a pony tail, the bumps will still be there. i just uploaded these http://public.fotki.com/sunshiine537...ight-plopping/ so you can kinda see them better. I've been trying to use everything and anything to provide moisture but i still have some patches that seem desert dried. My hair is way curlier than yours... but your curls show off sooo nicely!!! I can't wait for my hair to be as healthy as yours!! I'm also confident that once i cut it all off, it will recover better and faster. Even tho i am already CG, i should consider strictly natural products... thanks so for the suggestions and i look fwd to my haul

I think getting rid of the damage is going to be the key, too.

I've been thinking about a curly bob lately. I'm nervous though, I haven't had short hair in many many years, and back then when it was short it was SUCH a mistake. Then again, I didn't know how to take care of my hair then either.
I have thin/fine hair. It's a mix of 2c and 3a I think? My hair looks better when longer, but if I did something drastic like a bob maybe it'd look better because it wouldn't be in that awkward between stage, if that makes sense. Also, Anyone have a bob with bangs? I've had bangs for forever, and I don't know how they'd look with a bob.
Just looking for some input!

I have fine, thin (as I've aged) hair, too. I used to be a winter wavy/summer 3a--but my hair now looks like my signature picture all of the time. If you look at the pictures in my fotki, you will see the difference between the almost shoulder length, skimpy hair and what it looks like now. (I attribute some of the volume and tighter curl to using the natural soap bars.)

I really do like my bob. It's very easy and I finally have a style. The only drawback is that it really killed my curl pattern since I tend to curl more the longer it gets, and it looks like squat right now since it's grown out too much. Thankfully, I'm chopping it again tomorrow. LOL

I did it. Last night I put it in a ponytail and my mom chopped it off. That's all she did. I just wanted to see what that would look like when it was dry. Today it was too long still (slightly past sholders, but no major triangle head!). I love it still, and she is going to shorten it tonight. Now I am looking for up dos or semi up dos or just hair out of face styles to do. Any suggestions? I am kinda bad at up doish stuff, so pictures and instructions would be wonderful! thanks! also, whats you favorite accessory for a bob?

Manya, I'm afraid I don't have any experience with thick hair and can't help you with your 'bump', but I did come to join the Curly Bob Club.
Since the first of the year, I've lost around 30 lbs. Although I set out to do it in a healthy way, my head didn't seem to care for it at all, and I shed a whole load of hair (it's also possible that the weight loss coincided with a major shedding cycle). My hair is fine and on the thin side on a good day, and it was looking dull and thin and bleh, so I made an appointment with a stylist who is well reviewed here on NC.com. She agreed that I'd shed a lot, but noted that I have a lot of new hair growing in, and suggested that we take it off to bob length to give the new hair time to play catch up. She left the front chin length, and "stacked" the back, which makes my hair look much thicker. The curl is returning, and at this length (so far, at least), I don't seem to have to fight the tangles and knots that used to plague me daily.
I'd been lurking at this thread on and off, admiring the short cuts, but I never thought I'd willingly give up my longer hair - now I'm so glad I listened to Mona's (the stylist's) advice!

I just got my hair cut shorter, its to the bottom of my ears. However i can still put it back in different ways as the front and sides are still long enough to do so, even with some layers. I can make little pigtails, I can kind of twist the hair on the sides and put it back in barrettes... add some little flowers... etc. Sorry I dont have any pics.

I have a bob with bangs. There is a pic in my signature line I think you can see the bangs in. I had been toying with growing out my bangs for no bangs, but that is just not working for me. My face just needs to have some type of bangs.

if you don't have layers with a curly-haired bob, you will end up with the triangle!
since i've gone cg and discovered my stylist, i never cut my own hair anymore, so i cannot give you advice. is it possible to get it cut by a stylist who will do LONG layers? not short layers, especially not at the top!!
maybe get some photos from this thread of different bobs, and bring them?
good luck!

how layered is it?
I have a bob also and I always liked that length, especially since as women get older like me, the long hair thing just starts to look very wrong!
I like the way your bob sits. Is it layered and if so how much?

Thanks. My hair is usually layered a lot. At this point the angle is pretty severe from front to back. The stack is cut fairly short. The hair at the nape of my neck is probably only 1/2 inch--and I got it cut two weeks ago.

My layers vary with each haircut. I style my hair before I go in (every six weeks.) My stylist looks at how my hair is behaving at that time and cuts it accordingly. Sometimes my layers are more drastic then at others. I've gone to my stylist for almost 30 years and have yet to get a bad haircut.
I agree with rbb. Why don't you take some of the pictures from this thread to a stylist and have it done professionally?

I have been trying to grow my modified bob out for 9 years but between bad cuts and my scissors I can't seem to do it! With longer hair, I get a more even curl pattern with corkscrews and it is so much easier to take care of; no bad hair days. With my CG knowledge I think I can pull off wearing my hair longer even though it is super thin and fine, maybe with a few layers for style. I am just dreading that freaky in-between stage when the back is stringy and awkward layers. This time I am just going to do it!
