Default LOOB - What's the trick?

So I just ran out of KCCC and I thought I'd try LOOB in its place as my curl-enhancing-between-leave-in-and-gel-product. So far, I am not impressed. I scrunched in about two quarter-sized amounts after using GDLI. I put some of my old Biolage Gelee on top of it cause I'm trying to use that stuff up. My hair looked pretty shiny and well-defined at first (although with smaller clumps and flatter roots than I'm used to) and then it just started feeling frizzier and drier as the day wore on. My boyfriend even made a comment that my hair was looking a little flat and that he likes my hair better when it's "bouncier." What's the secret with this stuff? Should I be raking it in? How much should I use?

/prepares to take notes/

I got an awesome hair day with LOOB, the one and only time. After that it's been giving me uber-frizz.

I use it over l/in, under LA Looks. Scrunch it into dripping wet hair. I'd say, couple of finger scoops is enough for me, otherwise I feel too producty.

Hopefully, someone else will chime in.

LOOB gave me about a week of good results and then it just completely quit and made my hair poofy and quite big. Tried bringing it out of the product graveyard for a couple of days and my hair continued to not like it.

KCCC is a much better product and more natural, which my hair seems to love.

I didn't find LOOB to be anything special, either. Some things work and some don't. I can usually tell if there's any potential when I use a product. The "three strikes" rule doesn't always apply.

I was disappointed in it, especially hearing about so many on this board raving about it. I tried it at night actually, and after sleeping on it, it actually looked pretty good! Just a little bit of frizz and I had to go to work, so I got my hair a little wet and used a little more of the LOOB. I actually got a compliment on it from mys boss, she said my hair looked very romantic. I had also not combed it the night before, just with my hands so I had these full and bouncy curls that were defined. After that, my hair was really dry and frizzy, with a plastic-y feeling. I'm hoping I will find another way to use this product, otherwise it will be swapped or donated...

I liked it last summer and fall but haven't used it since getting Boot's pink and KCCC. Since it was almost this short back then, I've been meaning to give it a go again since I got it cut off. If I can think to, I'll do it next time I wash and let you know what I did if I still get good results.

ETA: Even then I had to alternate it with other products and not use it all the time. Those who use it apply it on wet hair, NOT as instructed on the jar. I often got better second and third day hair with it than first day. It liked having aloe water applied over it to refresh.

I find it works well in my rotation, though I've been forsaking it lately for my newest love, Boots.

I don't think it's a good sub for KCCC . . . I use it as a curl cream with KCCC. It's been really handy in the dry winter months, though I'll probably ditch it all together when the dews increase around here and I can start using my glycerin products again like re:coil and bioterra curl cream.

I applied it to wet hair. I also later applied it to damp and dry hair to see if it made a difference. Aloe is not good in my hair either, for some reason.

LOOB gave me great hair exactly once. After that it was DRYDRYDRY and frizzled - It is VERY drying. Took me a week or so for my hair to recover from it.

I think you just pointed out a reason behind my mega-frizz. What did you do to help your hair after LOOB? I'm thinking DT...

I usually would put mousse in my hair and then I would rake in LOOB on top. I got really good results with this method. I have currently alternated to other products for now, but this combo always worked for me. I did not notice that it dried my hair out. HTH.

I guess I'm one of the only ones who has mad love for this product.

Lizzle, is your hair the same length that it is in your avatar? If so, I think you're using too much. My hair is considerably longer than yours, and I use about a three-fingertip-sized glob. I would consider two quarter-sized globs too much for my hair.

Do you emulsify it between your hands first? It won't change the consistency of the product (like Boots), but it will help evenly coat your hands for application. I always rake for better distribution, and then I scrunch in my gel on top. During the summer I used it with L.A. Looks Sport, but this winter I've been using La Bella Lots of Curls.

As mentioned above, some people do have problems with it (I think it's the PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil). I use it almost every time I shower, and I've never had any issues with frizz or dryness.

for me, it works best alone after a little condish was left in...

I did a low poo then had to DT a few times. But it bounced right back.

I had to dump LOOB as well, and this was after going through nearly 2 full jars of it. I think even if you switch off on products and don't use it everyday, it will ultimately dry out your hair with longterm use.

Okay I gave LOOB one more chance today. (That's right, DEL, I should have listened to your advice!) I used much less of it, emulsified it in my hands, raked a little bit in and then scrunched and applied gel over and the results were, if anything, worse. The dryness isn't even the biggest issue for me. The biggest issue was the FLATTENING! I usually have pretty big ropey 3b curls but this stuff gave me skinny little 3a curls with 2c in places, and hardly any volume on top. I felt like my hair was deflated! I'm wearing it in a ponytail for the first time in months. I'm pretty sure this stuff just doesn't work for me.

I'll probably end up going back to KCCC, although I'm also curious about trying Lock and Twist and the Curling Cocoa Butter from DM and I also want to try Pink Boots. Any votes?

sorry lizzle I don't know what it is about that stuff, it literally worked for me ONCE as well. So weird...

If your hair likes Oils I would go with the DM stuff otherwise I'd go for the BOOTS. I actually have had much better luck with BOOTS with a LOOC underneath as a LI. The DM stuff is HEAVY and the CCB has Wheat Protein don't know if you're protein sens. or not. I would visit Kathymac's fotki and get samples. It's tricky to use and it may not work very well as we're getting closer to the warmer weather.

I've never really had any problems with protein or oils so I might just give them a try. I ordered some DM stuff today and I'll probably order some Boots tomorrow just to build up my stash!

BTW what's LOOC?

Nothing special about Loob for me either. I find KCCC is a product I don't have to rotate -- always does well in my hair.

Are you in England? If you're in the states, where do you order Boots? I'm almost out and really like it with KCCC. Story of my life is that when I find a product I like or clothing that fits, it gets discontinued.
