Jheri Curl HELP PLEASE?

I was really thinking about getting one. Now before you start to laugh, or call me crazy please hear me out before you comment. I'm 15 and I wanted to get one that looks like Michael Jackson's in these pictures(and I have the right face for it so it will look good on me, trust me.)

Here is what I want to get:

People are always bashing the curl they say it is greasy, nasty looking, a mess, smells bad, ect. ect. But here’s a truth no one is saying or remembering or willing to acknowledge: either you had the right kind of thick hair that took to the process or you had a busted a** curl.

I mean look at Michael Jackson's hair, his hair doesn't really look like a Jheri Curl, it looks like he is Puerto Rican or something. His hair doesn't look bad or dated for that matter.

This is the kind of curl I want.

Now I know he probably wears some kind of weave or extension in his hair, so I guess I'll get one too.

But how do you think he got it like that in those pics that I posted?

What do you think his technique is?

Dose anyone here know a lot about Jheri Curls?

AND PLEASE NO COMMENTS OR REMARKS ON MJ'S PERSONAL LIFE OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

Well, I used to be a huge MJ fan. :) I would disagree with you and say that it does look dated, although it was very fashionable at the time.

I think globs of KCCC not crunched out would come pretty close... Wet hair, stick in the KCCC, don't touch it... yep.

But do you know anyone on here that knows a lot about the Jheri Curl?

That stuff is soooo bad for your hair. I lived through the 80's and I remember how many of my friends had one and how many of them cut their hair because of it. I had one in particular that nearly went bald from it and bald is not a good look on women.

How curly/what type is your hair? Depending on the degree of curl, maybe coconut cream relaxer or something to elongate and loosen, followed by KCCC, mostly scrunched out once dry - just not all that grease of the original true Jheri Curl. When MJ's hair caught on fire making the Pepsi commercial that time, wasn't it when he used to wear it all Jheri Curled and drippy with grease?

Maybe some who actually had one or at least knew something about them back in the day will chime in.

Don't do it! Not only does it look very dated because it was SO popular at the time, but it also is very damaging to the hair. As an above poster mentioned, it can contribute to hair loss.

I don't personally know anything about it, but I remember classmates in the early 80's had it. I just remembered their hair was very greasy. Not sure why it had to be so greasy, but it was.
I am not one to follow trends. If you like that look, get that look...but I would encourage you to find healthier ways to accomplish that look. If it causes hair loss and bald spots, that's not good.
Best of luck!

That sounds about right. *cringe* Poor guy.

Anyway, I think anyone wanting to get the look would do well to update their products. :) I doubt you could even find the old school stuff these days, but I really don't know. Maybe try some more natural oils, like jojoba or something?

Good luck! :) I hope you can get what you're looking for!

Dose anyone know a better way of obtaining that look MJ had in those pics then?
