Things you NEVER would have tried?

I have always used a wide tooth comb to detangle my hair with conditioner during my shower routine. Then I started reading posts about the denman brushes and thought why not give it a try. Oh my goodness!! I still detangle with the comb but then follow up with the brush and my hair seems to love it. My curl definition is so mch better now!

What are some things you never would have tried if it weren't for naturally curly or other forums?
I never would have put agave nectar in my hair products, let alone do a rinse with it. I love the rinse
High Priestess JessMess, follower of the Goddess of the Coiling Way and Confiscator of Concoctions in the Order of the Curly Crusaders

ACV, honey, probably a lot of products that I never would have purchased without reading about them on NC
3b/3c very thick and porous mod-CG since 03/09

I never would have tried some of the products I would consider better for curlies with more curl and more hair than I. For instance, KCCC, is not something I would have tried assuming it was for curlies with a stronger curl patter than mine and more hair than me. But it works. Even some of the Curl Junkie products.

A shampoo bar. I've been doing CO washes for so long, but I recently read about J.R. Liggett's shampoo bar - my curls have never looked better. Who knew?

I never would have dreamed of putting KY Jelly on my hair, but last summer it was my miracle product!

I have bangs now, and I love 'em!
Anything for ingestion, skin burns/irritations or feminine dryness/intimate activity wouldn't have made it anywhere near my hair.

I never would have tried giving up silicones. I thought they were the only way to tame my frizzies.
Also anything that would normally be found in a kitchen (or the bedroom) I never would have dreamed of putting on my hair. Thanks for so many wonderful and useful suggestions!

I wouldn't have even been aware of the effects of SLS in shampoos and silicones.
Soap bars - wouldn't have tried them

I also probably wouldn't have tried the last 5 yrs worth of styling aids & conditioners because even when all I had in the 90s was mousse, I didn't like it & was just a wash & go gal. I didn't even like using my blow dryer.

My only accessories would have remained ponytail holders & claw clips.

I wouldn't have believed anyone about a towel being special.

And I wouldn't have entertained the idea of using a bar of soap on my hair.

Never would have thought I could make my own hair gel...tried that this weekend...FUN!
Not using shampoo, it is still hard for me to convince people. So now I just don't.

Loving JC and CK products... Been loving them for 3 years...looking to branch out and try new things!!!
Ditching the poo and the cones, and using things not marketed for curlies (LOOB, etc.).

Currently: Herbal Essences Hello Hydration, Herbal Essences Set Me Up gel (summer only), Boots Curl Creme (winter only)
Before, I would have never thought to try:
  • acv/vinegar rinses
  • plopping for better clumps
  • cheap conditioners (suave/VO5) as a leave-ins and styling aids
  • denman brush and fine tooth combs to get better curl definition
  • something I just started as of recently: trimming/layering my own hair

ps - l.deon, we could be hair twins!
ACV, Honey, Soap Bars and all the products I would have never known existed prior to finding this nirvana!
