Short haired girls...how do you sleep?

I have short hair. I've not had short hair in years, but back in December I made the leap to a short bob. I straightened my hair with a flat iron every day then. Now that I'm doing CG, I obviously don't straighten it anymore. I'm learning slowly how to cope with how it looks curly & short. The curls are getting better...it's just the length now! Anyway, I can't do the pineapple thing because it's not long enough. I have very thick 3a-ish hair I think. My hair looks CRAZY in the morning!! I really don't want to have to totally wet it every day and wait 5-6 hours for it to dry, so I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to get better 2nd day hair? For reference, here's my average hair day right now, and then one of how it looks in the morning...

Umm i put my head on a pillow and I fall asleep haha....

But for all seriousness, I don't do anything, my hair is too short to pineapple or anything like that....I just wet my hair everyday.

I know of other short-haired curlies that use a silk bonnet or silk pillowcase, i've never used either, so someone else will have to chime in

Heh that last picture made me giggle.

I had my hair cut to just about your length and I still stick it in a pony as high up as i can get it and i have decent second day hair. Usually before I take it down I fix the hair that fell out in the night. But i have a much tighter curl pattern than you too.

Mostly I dont expect to have good second day because ive never been one to have great second day hair so when I do im like givin myself little high fives in the mirror.

Do yourself a favor and get yourself a dryer and a diffuser and take 20 mins to dry your hair most of the way until it gets long enough to get a proper pineapple

Oh and if you dont want to blowdry you can do what I have done for years and thats use the vents in my car while im driving. The only time i blowdry is when im not going to be in the car that long.

Try a satin bonnet maybe? You can get them cheap at Wal-Mart in the ethnic hair section.

1. Your curls are beautiful!

2. I just go to sleep. My curls are tighter than yours which I think helps them to keep their shape. But I think in the morning if you spritz your hair with water and scrunched in some gel, that could get you second day hair.

There are a lot of people though who have to do their hair everyday though. There are ways to help with drying: plopping, diffusing...

Good luck!

My hair is VERY similar to yours in length and curl. I got a bob like yours just a few weeks ago. Since then I have actually had one 2nd day hair, but every other day nada. Tonight, I will be trying a satin sleep cap. I can let you know how it goes...tell you if it was successful!
My hair is about your length and a bit curlier. I pineapple as much as I can (pretty much just the topmost layers) and then put on a satin sleeping cap (I got mine at Sally's). All I do in the morning is take it all off and fluff the roots a bit. Second day hair!

Thanks for all the responses! I'm glad you guys enjoyed that last picture, lol! I have no shame. I don't mind doing my hair every day...it's just that I have 3 kids here, ages 20 months, 14 months, and 3 years. It's hard to take care of them while fighting with my hair, too. It sure would be nice to have every other day off I'd save some $$ that way (not using conditioner every day) as well. I may try a satin cap thing. When you guys pineapple, do you use a scrunchie or a regular ponytail holder? I also don't know if my idea of "pineapple" is correct. Do you just put all your hair on top of your head in a ponytail?
the satin pillowcase might be easier than the bonnet, it's what i use. i do wet my hair almost every day. i have found that if i let it air dry anywhere from 1/2 to an hour, then diffuse upside down for about 3 minutes, and finish w/air drying, it cuts the drying time dramatically.
for second day hair, you can flip your hair upside down and try spritzing it a little with some conditioner mixed with water, kind of massage you hair at your scalp a little, then scrunch. on the rare occasions i do second day hair that is what i do. if i have great first day hair, then usually second day is good.
i can see with children that young you need to have more time available to them.... i'm sure your hair will look good on 2nd day, does not have to be perfect.

Bold text above: That's what I do only with 50/50 aloe/water. Upside down first then flip over and do the canopy. Scrunch it in, let totally dry and SOTC. I usually get 2-3 day hair this way, sometimes longer. A lot of times day 2 hair is even better than on the first day.

Putting a satin or otherwise slick (sometimes I just use a nylon half slip) covering on the pillow does help, when I remember to do it.

If I didn't have an hour plus commute, I might be more relaxed and consider it the pleasure Kathymack does, who is, ahem, retired, I believe! As it is, I love the days I don't have to do it! I take advantage of the car heater vents, too except for when it's really frigid out. Partial diffusing then letting finish that way works a lot better than just plain air drying for me.

I am retired at this point. When I did work--before CG and stylers--I washed my hair every morning and went to work with it soaked. I still get up early to wet and style on days when I do work, LOL!

All right, I did the sleep cap last night. It worked pretty well. The curls flattened a bit, but I fluffed them up and put some gel in. The back of my head was a mess, but it was kind of a mess from the day before. So I will try again. I say try it.
