Dry And Frizzy! Any Suggestions?

I am new to this whole cg thing and keep trying different approaches. I get some improvement )not the beautiful curls I see psoted but some improvement at least), but then after a few days dry and frizzy again! I have used the EVOO and honey DT, followed by the ACV once a week (looks pretty good the next day, can I do this daily?)

cowash: Suave Naturals Coconut every 3 days
co: Giovanni 50/50
leave in: Giovanni leave in
FOTE AVG

Every morning when I am getting ready I think this will be the day, and then am sorely dissapponted. I don't dry all the way, so I am just a little damp when I leave home, and my curls look like they should, then by noon I have dry frizz and poorly defined curls.

I think I am
2c/3a
thick
course
pourous

From reading different threads, I think I may be somewhat protein sensitive? Thinking about changing to non protein Suave naturals and AOHR?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks
My hair doesnt like oils. I would try a different DT. Plus you dont need to do an acv after your DT i would more of reccomend doing an ACV after doing a low-poo or shampoo bar treatment.

You could try using AOHR as a DT jsut put it on and leave it in for an hour, and then rinse it out. I wouldn't use conditioner after that though as it may over condition you and you dont want that.

Hope that helps some.

It's possible you may have a sensitivity. Coarse hair and protein don't usually get along very well. And if DTs aren't helping, I would definitely suspect it. How does your hair feel when it's wet?

ETA: Could it also be that FOTE doesn't have enough hold for you?

I agree with curlyjenn10. FOTE probably doesn't give enough hold for you. I'm sorta similar in hair type to you and I don't do well with too much protein. Just a touch every once and a while, and AVG does NOT look good in my hair. I just end up with more frizz and... FRIZZ. I need a good gel to get the curls set the way I want them, and then I scrunch the crunch.

Mix of 3s, thick, coarse, medium porosity

Current hair styling technique: rake with a scrunch at the end. (works with my coarse hair)

When it's wet it feels softer, but not as soft as I think it should. Does that make sense? I never get the seaweed thing going on.

I've tried other gels, but even after SOTC my hair still looks dry. I was concerned that it may be due to the alcohols?
I agree with others. You may want to try a brand of Suave that doesn't contain protein. I started using the coconut one also and didn't see better results until I switched. My hair which is a lot like Curlymix's also hates AVG.

You may have an issue retaining moisture if your hair is porous also. Try something to seal it in like shea butter or refined coconut oil (be careful though, if you are protein sensitive your hair may not like the coconut oil either as they can act similar).

3b/c mix; mixture of fine, med. and coarse texture with med-high porosity

Current HG routine: Tresemme Naturals conditioner; AG Fast Food LI; AG Recoil; CJ CIAB = no crunch, lots of body and awesome definition

There is protein in everything you use. I would switch to a different Suave co-wash and get a condish without protein and see if that makes a difference. Also the FOTE probably doesn't have enough hold or your hair doesn't like it. The first (and only) time I put it in my hair it immediately felt dry and frizzed up after my hair dried. If you are looking for a more moisturizing gel you could try the Aubrey Organics magic mandarine or the B5. And as far as the DTs go try someting with much less oil. There are some great recipes here. HTH

First, the ACV rinse cannot be overdone because from what I have read, it (being an acidic solution) can really dry you out if you are not careful. I only do it every week or two, and I'm still trying to figure out if I even need it!

Second, that is a great idea to cut out protein and see how your hair does. Then later introduce a protein conditioner and see what happens. From what I've read, we all need protein -- just some of us not so often. I switched from Suave Coconut (has protein and 4 humectants!) to Cherry Blossom and have been very happy. Also, like others have said, trying other DTs and deeper conditioners like AOHR should help. This is where I am as well -- experimenting with deeper conditioners to see what in the heck my hair needs!

Also, have you considered your climate? I live in a dry climate with low dew points (for example, here it's been generally in the 20s and on a good day, in the low 30s), so a lot of the products that work wonders for other curlies on this site may not work for me because of the glycerin, honey, and other humectants. There have been some good, informative threads on dew points that you could search and some of the curly girls have even written about it on their hair blogs. That's been very helpful to me. And if you live in some mega-humid area, you'd have totally different problems!

Like some others have responded, FOTE isn't for everyone, for various reasons. I just could not get it to do anything for my hair, no matter how much I have tried. Just keep experimenting, and good luck!
Dry climate
2C/3A, fine texture, high porosity, medium-low density

For me, desert climate+porous hair+CG=inconsistent results!
Thanks Everyone for the advise. I switched to a not protein Suave, and the AOHR, and am seeing some improvement. I live in Oklahoma (very windy) and am starting to think that that may contribut to my issues. Avoid full force blow drying (diffuse then air dry) then walk out into the near tornado wind forces!

One final question... When something is changed (ie gettig rid of the protein) Will my hair continue to improve on a daily basis, or is it pretty much, the improvement now it?

Thanks!

Of course they wouldn't look that way without CG but I wish I would've learned about this years ago before I had done so much damage to my hair.
