Do clarifying conditioners clarify?

By that I mean, do they remove anything from your hair that a regular conditioner wouldn't? If so, what? If not, what's the point of calling them clarifying? I'm just wondering because I started with VO5 kiwi lime which says "clarifying conditioner" but it was making my hair really dry. So, I switched to sauve coconut and my hair feels a little bit better.

Could I use the VO5 if I've put a little extra product in my hair? Would it work better than the suave in that case?

I've never seen a clarifying condish before V05 but I do love it cuz I tend to get Oc'd pretty easily. The Suave was weighing me down. They are obviously lighter but I don't know what makes them "clarifying" but if they were drying you out you shouldn't use it and stick to the heavier Suave you gotta use what works for your own hair! Using extra product isn't going to make the V05 less drying for YOU.

What I meant was would the VO5 clarifying do a better job of removing extra product than the suave would? Just trying to figure out why they call it "clarifying". But, you're right, the suave does seem to offer more moisturizing effects than the kiwi lime does.

I've never seen Suave Clarifying condish. but the principles would be the same for the V05. There is a reason why it's a clarifying condish.

Pros: Removes the buildup and leaves hair with a fair amount of body, detangles well also!

Cons: Wouldn't use everyday, would remove too many natural oils.

The Bottom Line: The bottom line is CLARIFIED!

Suave does have a clarifying condish. I use it occasionally, but It doesn't seem to have very good detangling.

It uses like a VERY VERY mild and moisturizing shampoo to me.

I think the "clarifying" in this product is pretty much marketing hype. If you look at the ingredient list:

Water (Aqua), Cetyl Alcohol; Cetrimonium Chloride; Potassium Chloride;Distearyldimonium Chloride; Fragrance (Parfum); Disodium EDTA; DMDM Hydantoin; PVP; Methylchloroisothiazolinone; Methylisothiazolinone.

The only thing that speaks to cleansing in any way is the centrimonium chloride, which is a mild surfactant. The rest are emollients, thickeners, and preservatives. The difference between this and a Suave Naturals conditioner would be negligible.
