IceQueen Method?

Hi curlies

For the past two weeks, I've been experimenting with Icequeen's method of applying conditioner. It worked great--I had amazing clumps with amazing volume. But after 3-4 tries, it just didn't do it anymore. I have tried applying products in one side up, seperated into sections etc...but I just cannot get the same look again.

Also, when I put in my conditioner and rinsed upside down, I had some terrible knots in my hair (maybe that's what helped with the clumping ).

How can I modify it to get those great clumps and volume?

(I have 3a/2b hair that reaches just past my shoulders)

TIA!
A lot of us have modified it. Maybe this link has some info that could help

I just read the thread about the scrunch and pump technique (or pump and scrunch). It makes sense. It seems like by pumping the hair together, it forms a good clump.

I'm going to try it myself! I think there is another link to this techniqe within the link from the previous poster. Ah, found it, here it is:The "Scrunch-n-Pump" = Clumps

I love this site, but man, it's overwhelming with all of the info!

What exactly are you doing?

I put conditioner in my hair, comb, scrunch, shower, and then flip over, comb again.

I put some leave in on my hair and some gel.

I swear by the ice queen and would love to help you.

Can you give me a play by play?

My Play by Play:

Get in shower. Put Conditioner on my hair. I comb through. I flip my head over and scrunch. This is the slimy sea weed part they tell you about. I like when I can scrunch my hair and the conditioner makes my hair stick into its little clumps.

I take my shower, shave my legs, what ever.

Then. I flip my head over again and rinse. as I rinse, I take my fingers and run them trough the gaps of my clumps.

I turn the water off. I HAVE NOT scrunched the water out yet. With my head still upside down, I am still standing in the shower stall and I take my suave waterlilly conditioner and finger it through my hair.

I take my gel, and finger it through as well. And scrunch.

Voila! My clumps stay!
I'm starting to love my hair

Here's my play by play:

Get in shower, apply condish, comb through with a shower comb, leave it there while I do other stuff, flip head over and rinse, add a little bit more condish as a leave in, scrunch, apply FSG, apply a stronger hold gel on top, t-shirt dry.

I try not to rake because I think it seperates my clumps.

What do you think, SephirothsChild15?

I tried scrunching and rinsing upside down today and found that it gave me lots of tangles. My hair is clumpy, yes, but also tangly. Also, my roots look funny.

How can I scrunch without causing tangles? Do I need to do it upside down to get clumps?

I have tried it right side up and gotten good clumps but nooooo root curl or lift.

In the post I mentioned before I talk about how I comb upside down to help fix the roots and there are tons of other tips too. I still don't know how scrunching could be causing tangles, especially if you are using enough condish to get the squishy, seaweedy feel.

I agree, I think you need to scrunch to get your clumps going.

As far as not getting tangles -- do you think you could do a trial run without flipping your head upside down? It's worth a shot.

Edit:

Heres a link that might help.

Hmm here's what I did today:

Apply honegar rinse, apply conditioner, comb, scrunch upside down, rinse it all upside down, add a tiny bit of condish as leave in, scrunch a bit, put in FSG (new batch ), scrunch more, plop, clip roots and air dry.

It's not 100% dry, more like 80%...we'll see...so do you think I shouldn't have scrunched more after applying condish and gel?

This may sound like a stupid question, but how were all of you guys doing your hair before the "Icequeen" method? Because this is how I've always applied no-poo AND conditioner. I have clumps, sure, but I'm wondering if perhaps your method would work better for me. I've been unhappy with my hair lately. Thinking it's the weather, but perhaps just a new way to apply conditioner will make all the difference to me.

ETA: In the shower today, I realized that I was applying conditioner with my head upright then bending over and scrunching. So I guess I was doing it wrong.
