Default CG is not for people who are really active. What do you think?

I really think CG is not for active people. I work out and play sports multiple times in any given week, so obviously I sweat a lot and I get dirty.

I've been CG since the start of 2009, it was working well for my hair but not for my scalp. I've been having an itchy scalp and I also have some bumps on my scalp. I thought its just my scalp getting adjusted, but its been 3+ months and I still have some of those bumps. I've been doing some research and I think its clogged hair follicles. Probably from the sweat and dirt and so on. I don't think conditioner washing is strong enough to get rid of that stuff.

So, I've decided to use a low-poo every week or so. I just bought the giovanni tea tree triple treat shampoo.

What do you guys think about this whole issue?

Strict CG doesn't work for everyone and there's certainly nothing wrong with a low poo once in awhile. But I'm sure there must be some very active people here that are strict CG and have no problem with it. Just want to ask -- are you scrubbing your scalp really, really well? Co-washing does require more scrubbing than shampooing does to get your scalp really clean. Even though I'm not CG, I think it's the best way to go if you can.

I'd agree you probably need to low-poo at least once or twice a week, if nothing else because co-washing every day would cause a lot of people to get over conditioned. I don't work out all the time like you, but I low-poo ever so often with GTTT because my scalp needs it for seborrehic dermatitis.

Also, I see you're using LOOB - just co-washing is likely not removing the castor oil in it, and that could be contributing to your problems. Even though the castor oil in it is PEG/PPG modified and supposed to be water soluble, co-washing doesn't remove it in LOOB, ArcAngell and other products that I've used that contain it.

ETA: Also, doesn't LVPNG contain amodimethicone? If so, you probably need to low-poo sometimes to be sure you're removing all of that, too.

I agree. I have to low poo every week if not twice a week otherwise I get a super itchy, irritated scalp. The low poo or baking soda rinses really help.

LVPNG for "long hair that's wavy/curly" has no silicone, but it is the only one. The others have amodimethicone.

Yes msgiblet, I make sure I scrub really well when I cowash.

auntnett, the LVPNG I have does not have amodimethicone in it.

I actually think the clogged follicles are stopping new growth. I think my hair actually looks a little thinner now.

Is low-poo gonna be enough to unclog those follicles to encourage new growth?

I'd think so, if that's the only cause of the the thinning.

I mean my hair didn't look this thin before CG, so what else could it be?

Knew that was the preferred formula here, but I was thinking even it had some sort of water soluble 'cone in it . . . .

Curlylion - I'm new to CG and still playing around with it, and I workout vigorously 4-5 a week (like sweat dripping off nose and definitely in hair). So far I've been cowashing everyday that I workout to deal with the sweat issue, and used TTTT as a low-poo this week. I really think the tea tree should help your scalp health.

Yea, i've been cowashing the day after my workout. But I still think I need to low-poo too. How many times a week do you used the GTTTT?

If it's happened just in that three month period, that likely is all it is - I just didn't know other factors such as your age, whether male pattern baldness runs in your family, etc. I'd think GTTT would be very good for your scalp. I love it!

But yea, I'm just noticing it since I've been CG. So, what do you think?

I'd try GTTTT and just see. If after good clarification and a little time, you still seem to be thinning, I'd ask your dr. about it.

Although it's young, 22 isn't unheard of for a guy to begin thinning, especially if it runs in his family. My BIL's brother started losing his in high school. It was so thin by his sr. year that he just shaved his head and has been doing so ever since. Not trying to scare you, just saying . . . . My five uncles on my mother's side were all bald on top by the time they were 25.

All this to say that if the dr. thinks you are actually beginning to thin/recede due to MPB, the sooner you start preventive measures like Rogaine, etc. the better if you want to preserve it.

Avoid wearing caps a lot - they don't help!

Yea, i know that some people start thinning really early, but I think its a gradual process isnt it?

I don't think MPB just hits you outta nowhere. My dad has thinning hair, he's in his 50's and still not completely bald.

I'll try using GTTTT and see if it gets better, if not I guess I have to ask my doctor. How long do you think I should give it to see improvement in terms of thickness?

Curlylion: I've only done TTTT once a week, but like I said, I'm new to CG and playing around with it. Try it every 4 days or so and play it by ear from there.

Also... you're going to hate me.... my husband is about 70% bald and has been since he was 19 or 20. He shaved his hair off for a fraternity thing and it just never grew back! The good news is, he'll look the same at 80 that he did at 20.

Not necessarily . . . I've seen a lot of men start losing it pretty suddenly and quickly - that's why I said I'd see a dr. if this doesn't turn it around. He/she could discuss alternatives, maybe prescribe Propecia or something, if you want, to slow it down if it does seem to be the onset of MPB.

I would like to thank you all for scaring the hell out of me with this whole baldness talk. lol

I know this forum is bias towards CG, but I didn't know people will say that I'm balding (without seeing me) before questioning CG. haha I didn't take any offense, its just funny that's all.

With all that being said, I love CG too but my scalp doesnt.

If it was just the thinning hair without the itchy, flaky scalp with bumps, I might agree with y'all and say that it might be balding. So, I really don't think its balding.

I gave CG 3 months, so I'm gonna give low-poo 3 months too and see if I see any improvement before consulting the doctor.
