Del2C! I have questions about honey!

Ok. So I always see in your signature that you love honey. Heres my question: how are you using it? Do you use it daily (or with every wash)?

I recently started doing honey rinses (2 cups of warm water with a squirt of honey) at the end of my showers and I love it. I just worry that I might be doing it too often or that I could be using it better. I'm loving the results so far and I just want to see if there were other 'favorite' methods that people who work well with honey are using.

Anyone else who has a method is free to answer, I just know that Del2C loves honey. :thumbright:

TADA!!!!!! :queen: here I am

curlymix I'm actually glad you started this thread!! I've repeated myself so many times that now it will be a lot easier to say here's the thread all the info you can possibly have in one place!!!

I don't know that you could "OVER" do it unless you start noticing lightening effects from it. If that's the case you can use Molasses the same way. I found Molasses to leave me a tad softer then Honey and I prefer the crunchier the better because I get better hold in the long run once it works itself out. I couldn't use Honey in Low Dews and I don't think the dews are quite high enough to start using it but I'll report back. I'm waiting for 50 to be the magic number....

So I use just a pea size drop in my rinse out condish

Honey Rinse-as a LI 1/2 - 1t of Honey to 1C of water I just pour it on slowly then scrunch it all in really well.

HoneyGar- 1part Honey to 2parts ACV in 1C-1 water. I did this when I was using the soap bars then dews dropped haven't tried it again. I liked the fact that it took away the Vinegar Smell.

Agave Nectar-is lighter then Honey I only used this once so far and it left me a tad frizzy at the end of the day and a little too soft on 2nd day. I used a drop in my gel this is something I will play around with also when Dews get higher but I suspect HONEY is till my one TRUE LOVE cuz of the hold factor.

I know some like it with their DT's as well there a lots of recipes in the All natural hair care/Recipes you can find :)

Curlyminx 04-08-2009 03:52 PM

Hhhmmmm...

Your great! THanks for getting back to me! I've been in LOVE with honey. Just like your signature, I'm sure little hearts come out of my head when I grab it before a shower!

I'm going to try to add it to my condish too.

I've tried the honeygar (way better name than ACV/honey rinse) - 2 cups of warm water (I only use 2 cups because I'm using an old biolage container and it is just over 2 cups) with 2T of ACV and a squirt of honey. I was using it after my poo bars and before conditioning. I liked it, but I've cut the poo bars due to my porosity.

I've been using honey and keeping track of the dewpoint. The dewpoint has been between 25 and 35 during the day. My hair looks really happy.

I have agave nectar, so I will experiment with that... eventually.... First I need to get honey figured out!

Anyhow, I'm in love with honey. I'm gonna get a "I *heart* honey-bear" t-shirt.

eche428 04-08-2009 04:24 PM

The honey is baaaaack, the honey is baaaaack!!! Try it now Del. Don't wait! I did the rinse today for the first time since late fall and W00T W00T!!! :tongue1: I have the happiest hair I've had in MONTHS!

HONEY! HONEY! HONEY! LOVE THE HONEY! :wav:

DEL2C 04-08-2009 05:39 PM

REALLY????????? I shouldn't WAIT??? I'm getting really excited I hope it works!!! Will double check Dews tomorrow today it was 20's but that seems too low......:confused1:

eche428 04-09-2009 09:23 AM

I don't ever check dew points. Bad, I know. I just go by how I feel. If it's above 40 and when I breath the air doesn't feel dry, or if my spring allergies are in full force then I know I'm safe for honey. Hope I haven't steered you wrong. I just know this is my second honey day and the second day of great hair. Now if I could only get actual "second" day hair I'd be a totally happy camper.

Do you use honey in your rinse-out condish AND honey as a leave-in at the same time, i.e., one right after the other? Or do you do only one at a time?

Melanie I was doing both in the same wash one right after the other :)

Hmmm.... Double teaming your hair with honey huh???

*off to set up for tomorrow's 'shower of honey hair sandwich'*

burgundy_locks 04-16-2009 05:55 AM

sorry if this is long! But props to DEL2C!!!

(do people still use props?:dontknow:)

All i have to say is that DEL2C definitely knows her honey!!! In the past I asked questions about honey but i still never fully got it. So everytime i showered, there was Mr. Bear hanging out on the outskirts of the tub just waiting to be used. 2 nights ago i decided to JUST DO IT (like Nike ) however, i obviously wasnt fully prepared to dilute it with water since i had no cup! I realllyyy wanted to try the honey so i just poured a little under a quarter and just rubbed my wet hands with it and just apply and rinse out! When i got out of the shower, my hair felt really weirrd... like, hard to put my hands on it, but i decide to TRUST the honey. i put another little drop of honey mixed with AOHR and FOTE AVG and applied followed by KCCC and a teeenie bit of BRHG, did and overnight plop and OMG the next day my hair was soooo nice with really big clumpy curls!!!! I didnt even have to put anything on it the next day!! no frizz no thing!! I actually managed to SOT very little C that i had and my hair was soft all day yesterday. something that my hair has NEVER been while curly... NEEEVEERR. recently my hair tended to streak out by the end of the day, but NOPE, not yesterday. I semi pineappled and secured it with a bonnet and today i have what I would call 2nd day hair. compared to soem 2nd day hair i have seen here, its obviously not the same! But for my hair, I'LL TAKE IT!:wav:

Curlyminx 04-16-2009 08:12 AM

Hurray!!!!

Another sucessful honey experiment!! I took yesterdays post and applied it this morning. I did a rinse and mixed of with my li. I'm plopping and hoping for the best. It definitely felt odd to add it to my kbb nectar LI bit my ends wouldn't stop spiraling so I have a good feeling.

Burgandy_locks, I'm gonna try it by itself like you did. Thanks for your method addition to the thread.

If anyone else has any techinques with honey, I'd be very happy to hear how you use it.

DEL2C 04-16-2009 08:39 AM

Thanks Burgundy! I have been studying Honey very judiciously :book: I got most of my pointers from Botticelli Babe ;)

I like the idea of using it by itself too, DYING here for dews to go up already!!!!

curlymix let us know the final results!

burgundy_locks 04-17-2009 06:20 AM

I thought using straight honey was going to be a no-no! But i guess its ok

HOWEVER! Last night i used honey the same exact way as i did on tuesday night but i did not get the clumping!! I did get more curls, but almost no clumping! What they hey?! I got like, a couple of really cool potential curls, but my hair is all strand-y like... ::sigh:: will something ever work right on my head?!:sad1:

Burgundy you inspired me to try Agave in my gel yesterday on 2nd day DRY HAIR. I mixed it with FOTE, I was prepared to be a sticky mess but somehow this worked for me. The down side it left QUITE a bit of frizz so I had to counteract that with some moisture but it held up all day. The other thing I noticed and I don't know if this the Aloe or the AN but by the night time after being out all day my hair was almost STRAIGHT. This happened last time I used AN in my Gel too. I don't think AN has the kind of hold that Honey does because this never happened when I used Honey. BUT, it could also be the lack of Humidity and low dews...WHO KNOWS it's a constant experiment and someday I might actually nail it down...:laughing7: So I'm not surprised it didn't work for you twice in a row

Curlyminx 04-17-2009 08:26 AM

Ok. So I'm just reporting back on my honey LI experiment. I double teamed my hair with honey yesterday morning and I got very tight 3b curls on top! I mean TIGHT!!! Together with the ouidad rake and shake method I have hair that I can touch and play with. My curls go from root to tip and they have held together beautifully! I have found that I don't mind the smaller clumps of curls. It makes my hair fuller, and as long as I use enough kccc, my curls have been holding together well.

A sucess. This weekend or Monday (depends when I decide to redo) I will attempt a smudge of honey alone.

curlymix are your dews still in the 20's?

Curlyminx 04-17-2009 08:42 AM

Well they rose at the end of last week into the 40s them dipped for the last two days to the mid 30s. This morning I'm looking at 40. With a temp of mid 70s. Does temp matter at all with the dew point? Humidity is obviously in the 30s somewhere I think.

I swear, since learning to love my hair I've become an amature scientist and meterologist!!!

(I'm actually happy about that, I'm looking to be a 'jackie of all trades'! Hehehe :) )

Almost straight?! Really?! Hmm... interesting... I dont really know too much about FOTE AVG and nothing about AN so I can't speak from experience. All i know is that the AVG provides me with just the softness part, and because of the honey, KCCC, and BRHG i get the hold. I'm not giving up on the honey, BELIEVE ME! Like Curlymix, my hair curled from root to tip- something my hair has stopped doing for months because of the flat ironing damage and i am almost convinced the honey is who to thank. another thing i do is plop and scrunch in everything and i also over night plop. since my hair is so heavy at the moment, non plopping will probably not result in good curl formation. clumping, i guess that will be a hit and miss for me...

Oh yea, and the first clumpy curls i got earlier this week could have been because i did a poo wash? maybe my hair likes poo... but i'll just try a low poo next instead.

curlymix I kept forgetting to reply to your question. Do temps play a role as well as dews? Unfortunately I don't know for certain but it just SEEMS that every time the Temp is warm enough it's not my wash day so I can't test this theory but I WILL and when I do you will get full report!

Burgundy-my hair likes a dose of poo once in a while too especially with a DT ;)

Curlyminx 04-19-2009 06:14 PM

Holy goodness gracious! I think I'm about to guano my own thread! Del, when your signature says coconut, what does that mean? Do you use coconut oil or milk or what? Or should I just go hardcore and review all your posts to see what you may have written...?

Can you search just an individual persons posts?? I guess I'm about to find out!!

Ending my own guano: the dew point has dipped slightly since my last report. It's in the 20s and I'm guess tomorrow will be the same. I'm gonna try what I did last week to see if there is a difference. Will report tomorrow morning.

I also want to make flax seed gel with honey and see if I like it more. I really want to like flax seed.
