To Gel or Not To Gel?
When I apply my usual amount gel, my hair becomes a frizz ball. When I apply a bit more, just a tiny scoop more, I feel my curls get weighed down and become a crunchily wavy instead of my natural 3a curls. It's so frustrating...I've tried switching products so many times that my cabinet looks like a product graveyard.
What can I do??
TIA!

Have you ever thought of using mousse....Herbal Essences has mousses, and i find that they don't weight down my hair as much or cause as much frizz as gel....i know what you mean about a product graveyard, i'm the same way....the good thing with the HE mousses is that they only cost around $3

CurlyGurly21, I've tried MANY mousses in the past, only to find that not a single one had enough hold to stand 14 hours in public
My hair becomes almost straight when wet, and when I put styling products in that state it feels like the products are not allowing my curls to form. Does anyone experience that??

Have you tried scrunching the product in?
Also, if you're in a really humid area that's causing frizz, you could try CK ( Curl Keeper) or the drugstore version KY (yes lubricant), just put it in before gel and see how that works

I almost always scrunch upside down. However the second I flip my hair up, it becomes straighter. I've tried plopping and wet pinappling, but they both made my hair look weird.
I'll look into that KY thingy. Can I use it under my regular gel?

Ya I use it either under gel or mousse depending on the hold i need...make sure you get the normal KY Jelly not the warming liquid or anything like that. It has a lof of glycerin in it which is a humectant, so in humid climates it takes the extra moisture out which calms the frizzies

I was watching the Jessicurl videos the other night and she mentioned something about your hair getting weighed down if you leave it wet for too long. So she opts to blow dry with a diffuser to avoid that issue.
I didn't know if you air dry or not, but maybe if you plop, then immediately diffuse with the dryer afterward, it will help keep your curls from getting weighed down.
