Can anyone help me? I'm about ready to quit!

I'm so frustrated. I feel like I'm stuck right now. I've only been cg maybe a little over a week. I LOVE the way my hair feels when I co wash (Suave coconut and GVP CB). It feels soo much better than it has in years. BUT, I can't do anything with my hair. The curl is too tight and the cut is too short. Nothing I do that's curly looks good right now. I can't take it!! I'm trying different products but I'm also trying not to spend to much. I have two small children and I'm a stay at home mom, with the economy the way it is, I can't splurge on anything right now. I'm just so frustrated. I don't want to go back to using shampoo all the time, but I really feel that the only thing making my hair look even decent is using cones and either blowing it out or flat ironing it. I hate my flat iron so I've been blowing it out for the last six months or so instead. Which is ok, but I need to use cones and co washing isn't going to remove the heavy cones I need to use. My hair is fine but coarse - I still can't figure out porosity. But, I live in Central Florida where the humidity is ridiculous and my hair frizzes if you look at it wrong. I mean seriously frizzes. Is there anything I can do? Or is now just not the right time for me to start a cg routine and maybe I should just wait til it's a little bit longer and I'm a little happier with it? Any suggestions at all? I'm desperate. I love how it feels with the co wash, but I can't do anything with it that makes me happy.
Tinah, please for your hair's sake don't go back to shampooing
You can always style it until it grows out, or if it's too difficult you can maybe blowdry once in a while (I've been that desperate too). Depending on how short your hair is, you can try pin-curls, strawsets, skip-curl technique, twisting, braiding etc...there's really so much you can do!
How long is your hair, and what's your curl type??

I feel your pain. My hair causes me trouble 95% of the time, but i really think that CG has helped it like crazy! I got a really bad hair cut back in December and I'm still growing it out, it's just past my ears now. You really do not have to spend a lot of money going CG, the suave and v05 conditioners you can buy at a dollar store for super cheap....mousse or gel you can buy at any drugstore for no more than $5...as well as a rinse out conditioner (depending on whether you're protein senstive or not, you can try the LVPNG), or if you have a Sally's near you, you can try the generic conditioning balm....I'm sure others will chime in and offer their advice....I hope this helps can gives you some hope

Here's a link to my hair. It's shorter than in the pictures. I got a cut about three weeks ago and she just chopped it up something terrible. Instead of layers I have steps, in the front on the right side it's about two inches shorter than the fron on the left side, any curling makes it look like I have a fro. I don't want a fro. I want my curls to be a little more relaxed. I don't want them to be any tighter than they are. I don't even want them this tight.

I think I asked you this in the last thread you posted. How are you applying products to your hair and what are you applying. It is easier to help you if we know what exactly you are using and how you using it.

I'm trying to find something I can work with. Today it was the leave in, then some Biolage curl defining cream, and Frizz ease down play. It's only got one cone and it's PEG modified. Then I tie it up in a t shirt. I guess it's sort of plopping, as plopping as you can get with short hair anyway. I've tried AVG, Samy Big Curls cream and Get curls potion, Tresemme gel w/ my leave in, potion 9, umm...that's all I can think of. I'm a long time PJ so I have lots of stuff already (another reason I don't need to buy more stuff). The down play did a good job of taking the volume out of my hair some but I ended up putting on some CHi silk infusion and blow drying with a round brush after it was dry to stretch out the curls quite a bit. Now I'm gonna have to use shampoo of some sort to remove the cones! I have Everpure but I don't like the smell and it really seems to dry my hair out (i think it's the salts in it).
Wow that is alot of stuff! Why not try just a leave-in that is cone free, raked into soaking wet hair, followed by a gel. Try curling some hair around your finger for defintion around your face and then gently scrunch with an old t-shirt and let it air dry. Of course depending where you live, that might be hard in April. The weight of the curl being wet will help enlongate them. Give it a shot and hang in there. Not sure where you live, but I would be willing to send you a sample or two of Curl Keeper and Shea-moisture leave in, just cover the cost of shipping. They seem to work for alot of curlies here.

Yes, it is a lot of stuff. But I don't use it all at once. I've tried just the GVP conditioning balm as a leave in (no cones) I use it every single time I wash my hair, whether it's co wash or with poo. I tried just gel with it and didn't like it. Today I tried curling around my finger and it enlogated the curls just slightly. I live in central Florida so air drying is no problem, the weather has been warm except for the past couple of days, and it's going back up again so no problems. I would LOVE to try the shea and CK! Those are two things I really want to try. I'd be happy to cover the cost of shipping if you want to send them to me! Send me a private message and we can work out the details. That's very nice of you to offer, I really do appreciate it.

Also, if you want to elongate the curls so they're not so springy, you can attach clips to then ends of them. You know, the ones with the double prongs on the ends, they're about 2 inches long, I think. Maybe 1 1/2 inch. That could also help mask your step layering.

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.
