How many in-shower items do you have going? Their age?

Well?

I've always considered this question/these questions, but never asked.

Once you open them, do you alternate consistently between them?

If so, or not, do any go bad?

If they do, how quickly do they do so?

I've been 'afraid' that I wouldn't get enough usage out of each before/if that happened.

I'm also 'afraid' to have more products in the shower than the little 7.5-in deep x 12-in wide corner shelf can hold. Right now I can put more than three, but I haven't.

And I won't put any on the corners of the tub. I can't stand that.

So, my unopened hair (& body) products sit in a line, waiting patiently on shelves outside the shower room, for their turn to come.

And the opened ones are either in the shower head caddy or on the corner shelf, or right outside the shower on the floor in an antique chamber pot.

I'll wait to see what everyone says before I tap into the mother load.
I have 5 rinse out condish and one cowash condish in my shower at all times...can you tell I love conditioner? I do rotate between all my condish because I have protein sensitivities and tend to get overconditioned. I also have a shampoo bar and comb in my shower. I would have more but it's a tiny stand up shower and SO needs space for his stuff too I guess

All the rest is in my cabinet over my toilet...well the stuff I use anyway...there is tons more under the sink and in the drawers.

I have:
1 Suave Naturals Strawberry shampoo (I've had it for over a year. I don't throw it away because it's the only way I feel I can reset my hair after a string of bad hair days)
1 LVPNG
2 VO5 Conditioners

The conditioners I bought before catching the 'cones in the ingredients now line my BF's and his daughter's shower shelves.

Everything else is outside the shower, in the linen closest. I've filled a whole shelf with hair products, not to mention two baskets in the bathroom itself.

I have probably 10 on a shelf, most are the natural types, as in lots of oils & extracts, things you don't need an interpreter for, with normal preservatives like parabens & -zones though. I just don't know how much longer they'll last. I've had some for over a year.

Is this a trick question? Are you asking for only hair stuff? Let me start by saying: at my house, you have to take all of your shower stuff out everytime you shower (I grew up like this and I just feel better when I see the clean empty shower after I'm done).

That said, let me see: I have at least 6 or 7 conditioners I rotate through (that I have opened... I still have two that I haven't touched)... I'm considering adding KBB milk to that rotation instead of as a LI.

I have ACV and honey for my rinses.

EVOO to add to certain conditioners (i'm strange. currently only one gets evoo, and its super thick... i dunno why i do it like that).

do my shower brush and clip count?

and all of this is stored along with everything else shower related (during and after shower) under my sink.

Mix of 3s, thick, coarse, medium porosity

Current hair styling technique: rake with a scrunch at the end. (works with my coarse hair)

I keep every product I own within reach of the shower. You never know what you might want to use that day. Right now I have at least 4 bottles of cond. surrounding my tub and a couple of hair cleansers. I also have some leave-in cond. just in case. Oh and I keep ACV around too.

It takes practice and strategic placing to keep such a large amount of products in such a tiny space but I consider myself an expert.

At this point I am strongly considering one of those shower shelfs that fits in the corner. But that may possibly send me over the top. Though I think it's too late for that.

As to having the products go bad. Can't say I've ever had that problem. But I do go through bottles of product like a kid with candy, too much is never enough.

I have always been this way with products and have never had anything go bad. Listing them out though, hehehe...I really am a PJ

This is the problem, if products last maybe 3 years at the most, I'm worried mine won't make it by the time I get around to using them all, if I continue the way I have been; use one completely, then open another.

I'll play follow the leader(s) then & open some of the others & try to put them in rotation. I just hope to high heaven that I can keep myself from filling up the blank spot on the shelf with yet another product, which in my case is conditioner. I have a weakness for these too.

At least with the nc.com shopping bag full of stylers, each has been opened/used & are in rotation.
I have about 4-5 at any time, kind of. During the week, I'm in a dorm. I leave all three conditioners in the shower (I share with my one roommate) and take my styler, KCCC and sometimes pink boots, back to my room. I'm using pretty much the same products now, and I take those home on the weekends. I have product stashes (which totals multiple shelves, a cabinet, and one bin thing) both at home and at school. So it can be tricky. As far as I know, nothing's gone bad.

I guess most of my stashes are products I haven't used since last summer, and I have a good amount of items with protein that get used once in a blue moon. I'm so ready to have just one big stash again!

I found some receipts, but until I find all of them, I know of only a few conditioners bought towards the end of 2008, so they joined the others on the shower's corner shelf.

Now I'm off to call Walgreens to see if a clerk can figure out a purchase date from codes on a receipt that had the bottom (date section) torn off. >>> 11 Oct 08

Seriously. Is this really a trick question? Umm...lemme go count. I use an entire corner shower caddy plus the two inside corners of the shower/tub for all my shampoo/condition/body wash stuff. All styling products are outside of the tub, on a 3 shelf bookshelf that is chock full of products. Most of them ones I use. Yeah, it's pitiful. Okay, here's the count. 2 shampoos (one deep cleansing shampoo, one low-poo, 2 body washes (one castile soap, one Alba something...like 32 oz. It's yummy). 4 co-wash conditioners, I mean 5 (whoops). Technically, 8 conditioners, though 3 of them are only travel sized and I don't use them often and I often rotate out the other conditioners for others as I feel necessary. The outside corner (corner 3 for those taking notes) is a soap dish with my shampoo bar(s), and the other outside corner (corner 4 of course) contains a lotion and a body oil. Yes, I take up the entire shower. I share with my mom and she has a built-in corner shelf with 3 lowly products, two shampoos and a body wash. Yeah, she's a straighty.

So...do I have everybody beat now? Good.

As for life of products. I've had most for quite some time. I think I've only had a product go bad on me once (Jessicurl conditioner of some sort). Otherwise, all my conditioners and oils (Some from many, many years ago) are good and I do not go through products very fast. Mainly because of the sheer quantity.

Products
This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.
So, I don't think I got an actual reply about this; approximately how long does it take everyone to go through their opened & alternated items?

Sunshine, you're my hero!

BTW, I contacted ABBA about the shelf life of their products & they said 1 year. Now I can't remember if that's once it left the factory or once opened. I got some early this year. But I've had some for several years.

I have products that I know I have had for over a year and they are opened. I do not have the patience to wait. I rotate so much I would never be able to try anything new. Hopefully that helps you in knowing how long I have a product.

I always have deva lowpoo/condish in the shower and alaffia leave in. I probably use them 1x a week if that. I typically decide what I am going to use in the morning and they are brought into the bathroom that day and then get put back under the sink or in the hall closet when I am finished.

I am embarassed to say but I probably have 7-10 shampoos, 10+ conditioners and over 15 stylers/gels/leave ins (I don't even want to give out the number!!). Probably 3-4 of them are unopened because they are just backups to products I do use a lot of (BHRG for example). I have 1/2 of a double sink vanity full. Thank goodness our two sides are separated by a wall or SO would have a heart attack!! And I have a 12"x12" wicker basket full in the linen closet and there is spillover outside of that. I went on a conditioner buying binge about 3-4 weeks ago!!!

I just continue to use my products and I have never 'noticed' anything that has gone bad.

I go through my family size Suave in about 3 weeks but the rest of my condish in a few months, maybe two or three. My products though take me a while. Can't even remember the last time I finished something and restocked it. Maybe last summer when I was all Deva.

Nine or so? Okay, okay, twelve. Twelve-ish. Definitely no more than 15. Total.

I think.
I've never had product go bad on me... then again, my pj-ism has only been at this level since September of last year. I don't think that I still have ANY products (at least that I currently use) that are from Sept. I have KBB stuff from mid-october 2008 that I haven't used or used only once. Since this thread, I have decided tht I need to put it in the rotation on a dedicated basis, to make sure that it doesn't go bad on me.

Even when I only use certain products every once and a while, I can't imagine anything sticking around long enough to go bad. The one product that has been least used is my LPVNG but I've even kicked that one up since realized that an occasional shot of protein would do my curls good.

I really hate to answer this but I will. I have five or six shampoos - sulfate and sulfate free, probably about seven or eight conditioners in the bathroom in my bedroom, in the main bathroom (ran out of room in my bathroom) at least 25-30 styling products, oils, leave in contioners, and then I have a small supply of various hair items under the sink.

This is all an estimate, as I sit here and actually start naming names, i may acutally have more like 10 or 12 conditoners, if you include trial sizes and whatnot.

In my shower, I have three shampoos, and four conditioners on the shelf and then a trial size shampoo, conditioner and deep treatment on the caddy that hangs from the shower head.

Wow, I really need to stop buying products.

I've never had anything go bad on me before unless it was just something I didn't like and it sat for a really long time because it didn't get used and I was too lazy to throw it out.
Thanks for the replies.

I was too chicken to put more than two rinse-out conditioners in the shower, wondering if the heat & steam/water exposure would make them go bad quicker & if I could go through them fast enough. But that's not the case currently with my hair chopped short.

Now I have as many as the dinky corner shelf will hold for their shape & size, which is six. And unfortunately I had to resort to putting another two on the tub's corners behind the curtain, the liter pump sizes. All are from 2008.

The ones from 2009 are still on the shelves in the outer bathroom. I think there are just as many there as in the shower.
I have 10 conditioners, 2 that double as leave in and 3 that double as shampoo if I co wash with that so that kind of explains it. 4 shampoos (don't ask how I got that many I have no idea), one is my mom's. 2 leave in conditioners. And only one styler though. And I have a small plastic case full of various hair ingredients for when I want to be a mixtress like shea butter, oils, aloe vera, vitamins, etc. Most are in a closet in the bathroom and only a couple are on the tub rim.

Once you open them, do you alternate consistently between them?

Yes.

If so, or not, do any go bad?

Since I have only been in the hair game seriously for not even a year, I don't think so.
