has anyone ever tried....?

I was just over on the LHC boards and saw a thread about hair typing and how our curls seem to change depending on what we do (plopping, scrunching) or what we put in it (Gel, Aloe) or whether we comb, brush, or some combination of the two. Someone mentioned how different her curls were when she came out of a pool and didn't touch them. I remembered how mine used to be when I did that, I always wished my hair was more like that always. They were more cascading , flowing ringlets and waves. So I am thinking of trying to shower and let it completely drip dry with no touching or anything to see if my hair type is different from what I thought.

So my question is, have any of you ever tried soaking it completely and not touching it at all, letting it drip dry to see how it was different?

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.
this is actually my favorite way to do my hair. i did it yesterday...got out of the shower and used my fingers to get the tangles out and scrunched a bit. didn't touch it at all and after it was dry i actually had ringlets underneath my top layers, which never happens with products/plopping/diffusing etc.

of course i don't have the patience (or the time) to sit in the confines of my house and let my hair completely air dry, which is why i usually turn to products. but i do have to agree with your friend...the absolute best hair days come after getting out of the pool/ocean.

still working on it
I will be trying this, this weekend! You would think that after it stopped dripping it would actually dry quicker without all the product.

I don't use any products, nor am I CG, mainly because I'm too lazy to do it. Sooo, this is what I do everyday. P: Unfortunately my hair is damaged due to constant straightening and permanently dying without a break, so I won't really see my natural hair for a while until it all grows back. ):
Hair Type: 2b/2c (:

I remember when I was a kid I thought it was something about the water or something that made my curls so nicely formed, and loose when I get out of the pool or ocean. But then again having a mom with straight hair guaranteed that any nice formation was combed into submission when we got ready to go to the boardwalk later that night.lol Also because it was either chlorine or salt water being left in, my curls were never really shine when I came from the water. I'm sure through some tweaking I can find an acceptable way to fix it without too much touching. I have a lot of hair so if I don't plop at all I'll be flat!lol

I just thought, maybe the under layer of my hair are so nice, with the loose, looping floppy curls I remember as a kid, because that is the part that is least messed with. I don't put product in upside down, My hair is so thick so whatever product I put in (conditioner, or aloe) never gets to the under layer. I always wondered what happened to my hair. When I see pictures of it as a kid before I started relaxing it, it was curly if left alone, but when mom combed it, it was mostly just really pliable. She combed it all out then put in 2 pigtails and twirled them to give me cute curls. Now that all the chemicals are out I guess I figured I could get that back and maybe I could if I just left it alone!!!lol

I only do this when I'm actually at the pool or beach because the sun is there to help the drying along. My hair will go from dripping to totally dry in about an hour in the sun (versus 4 hours inside). So basically, I can't wait for summer

Ok, so I've dried not messing with it too much and letting it drip dry mostly. I still had to plop a little cause otherwise my whole house would be wet!lol It did have less shrinkage but this was during the week when I had work so I had to still put a little something in cause I couldn't risk it for work. But tonight, I have nothing to do tomorrow, I can redo it when I get up. So I think I will only rinse part of my conditioner out and try not doing anything else too it...we'll see!

I did it last night! I left some conditioner in but I did rinse it a little. I squeezed a little water out, very gently so as not to disturb it much. I draped a mf towel on my shoulders and went about my business. As it dried I touched up a few of the curls that weren't drying well, like some of the fly-away ones, with a little conditioner and water. Once it was dry I fluffed a little and smoothed a little aloe and water over top. I didn't have to fluff much, it wasn't flat on top like I thought. It didn't take that long to dry. I slept in a pineapple and took it down today and it looks great. It's very shiny, soft, not crunchy, and I don't have any of those little, producty "stringlets" (I heard that term somewhere on here) that I usually get. I think this will be a permanent routine for me!

It's so funny -- I always assumed my products were helping my hair stay curly. When I was little I used to have such a bushy 'do that the kids at school made fun of me. And in general, even on completely non-humid days I have a bit of a problem.

But I'm going to try this! Maybe it was always because my mom brushed out my hair, or maybe it's because when I got out of the shower I had poo'd and also touched it. Come to think of it, I don't think there was ever a time where I didn't A.) Use shampoo and brush or B.) Use shampoo and product.

Until now

Hair type: Fine, fairly porous, shoulder length when curly. Probably a 3a or 3b with tight ringlets now that it's getting longer. Hair loves aloe, hates glycerin.

Co-Wash: Suave Naturals Aloe and Waterlily (my HG conditioner!)
Rinse Out: Garnier Sleek and Shine, Trevor Sorbie curl conditioner (UK only, unfortunately)
Stylers: KCCC, AG Re:coil, TIGI mousse, but open to suggestions!
Gels: BRHG (my one and only)

definitely try it! I had a pretty good hair day today, I think when I would put the conditioner back in my hair to leave some in without that final rinse I think that is what aided in my stringlets. I think those few finer hairs on top got too much conditioner and clumped together in little skinny curls that just looked producty. I think the less product helps with the drying time too, cause it wasn't so bad.

Ooh, I did it! And I'm pretty surprised by the results.

I co-washed with Suave Naturals Lily and Aloe, and then I rinsed out with Aubrey Organics Rosemary Mint. Then... nothing! I just icequeened and let it drip dry.

The result: Some actual definition, which is pretty cool because I was expecting outrageous frizz, but little to no volume, possibly because I haven't touched it. Another result of not touching is that I have pieces everywhere! There's no part and curls are just all over my head, going in different directions. And not in a cute way. It's also very soft and very, very shiny. Plus there's this weird thing going on in front -- it looks like I have one big clump and then about fifteen individual hairs wrapped around it loosely, like a vine wrapped around a railing. I guess they're going crazy and having a party on their day off

It's nice to see what my hair looks like underneath all the product, and it's nice to know that I can give my hair a break from all the heavy products once in a while and just let it air dry naturally
