Hair Woes

Man o man. I think this in between season stuff is killing me. I have not had a decent hair day for 3-4 weeks. It looks OK when I first scrunch out but within hours my curls have gone flat. I really do not think I am overconditioned. I have pulled up the sides and front of my hair almost every day. It's driving me nuts. I also think it has grown VERY fast since my haircut in February (or was it March??) and maybe it's just not growing out as good as it did the last time. I had about 2 weeks after my haircut of really good hair but it has been downhill ever since that.

I think tomorrow I will try my old standby of KCCC and if that does not work I give up until the weather is more consistent.

That's all. Just had to share my frustrations. My hair is usually so consistent that this is soooo annoying.

I feel your pain. The in between is killing my hair too. I've had two good days in the last 3 weeks or so. Ahhhhh...summer hurry up and come fix my hair.

xcpntl our dews and temps have been so wacky in New England. I'm having trouble too because going by the dews I should be needing lots of moisture but it's not working the way that it was in the Winter. I haven't had horrible days (knock on wood) I've had one or two here and there where I had to wash 2 days in a row but ITA that this in between Seasons is a royal PITA! I guess I expected Spring Dews to be closer to 30's and 40's consistently instead of single digits and no humidity. Very weird.....

The weather here is crazy too. Yesterday it was 73 degrees out (felt like 80) with a dewpoint of 18. Right now it's 32 degrees out, snowing/raining, with a dewpoint of 30. It's still crazy to me that it can rain with that low a dewpoint!

My hair doesn't know what to do with itself right now.

Though I don't have to deal with differentiating dew points like you guys, I'm about done with this in between crap, I tell you! Yesterday, it snowed. SNOWED! April 15th and we're still getting freaking snow? I am sooooo ready for spring. Or summer. At least in summer we have an evaporative swamp cooler in our house and my hair gets some humidity before hitting the arid outside weather!

And the hair is total crap lately. Either it's too dry or it's too greasy. A ponytail has been my constant companion this past week or so!

I feel you. Boy, do I feel you!

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.
I feel your pain xcptnl. I think that you're right in blaming the crazy transition period from Winter to Spring. I think here in Virginia, we have turned the corner into more consistent higher dew points *crosses fingers*, but if you are up in New England, you may have to tough it out for a couple more weeks. Not much consolation, huh?

It stinks. How about some ?
Glad to know I am not totally alone. Like Del said - the moisture is not working the way it was in the winter even though the dewpoints are the same. And like SunshineGrrl said I am greasy looking or dried out. I have no freaking clue. I need a hair analysis machine - slid some hair in - and tells me exactly what product(s) to use that I have in my house (of course you preload all your products in so it knows what you have on hand).

Same here -- terrible curly lately. I've been so bad -- I've even straightened my hair a few times over the past few months just so my hair can look decent. Although the minute I do, I miss my curls and can't wait to re-do my hair.

Just wanted to say I feel your pain. I think the weather is getting better here, so I am curly again and hoping for better curls!

Here's to good hair days to come!

I had 3 weeks of bad hair as well. 1 week I was over conditioned, so I poo'd and thought that would solve it , but it continued for 2 more weeks. Nothing worked, not the old standbys. I was due for a haircut but had to wait until my hair would look decent enough to go. I go to a Deva stylist who cuts it dry, so I couldn't go in looking stringy and gross. I finally was able to get it cut and now I have not had a bad hair day since. I'm thinking I was just overdue for a haircut. Xcptnl, Maybe your just due for a trim since you said your hair had grown very fast.
Soooo, when I'm having a bad hair day, I do an overnight DT then a shampoo, when was the last time you DT'd and what did you use?

Have you ever tried coconut oil at night? This springs my hair back to life I love doing that, I just can't figure out how often is "safe" so I only do it once a week. In the Winter I was doing it about 2-3 wkly.

Thanks for the suggestions!!! I typically don't do long DTs-I will do them in the shower though so I will pull out my CJ Curl Rehab tomorrow. I think it was/is a combo of the weather and product.

Today I waterwashed, conditioned with the Vitamin condish, rinsed that all out and put in some Alaffia leave in just on my ends. I then srunched in some Babaii Sculpting Clay (my hair was looking good yesterday to this point until I added in the esencia mousse). I then put some KCCC over that-not much because this scupting clay has some hold on it's own and then just some Gel-les C on the ends. I did some clipping with jaw clips and diffused. I let it air dry the rest of the way and I just scrunched out the crunch and it's looking better than it has all week.

I have actually had my hair longer than it is now so I am blaming product misuse and mud season in New England!!

How do you like the Babaii stuff? I looked at the poo and condish and was thinking it had some undesirable ingredients, but I don't remember the clay. Doesn't sound like something that would play well with other products . . . Isn't this the line that Kate Hudson was promoting with her hair dresser (Babaii) a year or so ago?

auntnett I always use 2-3 things in my hair....leave in, curl cream or something similar and a gel. I am crazy like that. But just to point out - I didnt use the mousse today - that was yesterday's disaster!!

Del and auntnett - I picked up the conditioner and the clay of the Babaii products (yes this is Kate Hudson's stylist line). The conditioner has some sort of cone I have not seen before but since I am a shampoo'er I don't get too worked over them. It is a very thick conditioner that detangles OK - I would not rush to repurchase but I will use it up. But I do LOVE the smell of it.

The Clay - I am really liking it. Yesterday if I had not used that nasty mousse I think my hair would have been much better. The consistency is like CJ coffee coco curl cream to me. I probably used a pea sized amount and emulsified in my palm and then scrunched into wet hair. I could see my curls start to clump as I put this stuff in. It does have beeswax in it and PEG castor oil and phenyl trimethicone???.

Here is the complete list of the clay ingredients (sallys sells it):

Water/Aqua, Synthetic Beeswax, Polyurethane-14, Canola Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, Silica, AMP-Acrylates Copolymer, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch/Zea Mays, Dicetyl Phosphate, Ceteth-10 Phosphate, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenyl Trimethicone. Aminomethyl Propanol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Fragrance/ Parfum, Persea Gratissima Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Theobroma Grandiflorum Seed Butter, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Hydrogenated Hemp Seed Oil, Spirulina Platensis Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cymbidium Grandiflorum Flower Extract, Algae Extract, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Fruit Extract, Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Fruit Extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract, Equisetum Hiemale Extract, Orchis Mascula Flower Extract, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Hedychium Coronarium Root Extract, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Hedera Helix (Ivy) Extract, Trigonella Foenum-Graecum Seed Extract, Volcanic Ash, Benzyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, Benzyl Benzoate, Limonene.

I am REALLY glad to know I'm not the only one having a hell of a time with this weird in betweenness. To give you some idea - today is my first good curly hair day in about a week. Two days ago, it was 35, freezing, and rainy. Today it is 70 and incredibly sunny. Michigan is RIDICULOUS. I have been straightening a lot lately just because I can't get it to look right otherwise.

My hair looks fab today, though. Now if I can figure out WHY...is it the product switching I've done lately? Is it the weather? Both? Neither?! AUGH. Not that summer hair doesn't have its problems (frizz, GIANT volume, etc.) I'm more okay with those/better at fixing them than I am at dry, sad, deflated winter hair.

Right now it is 29 degrees out, the dewpoint is 28, it is snowing, and there is 94% relative humidity. Yeah, my hair is in a ponytail today and I won't be doing anything with it.
