Default is gel bad for your hair?

growing up my mom told me not to use gel because my hair would fall out by the time i was 30 lol.
is there any reasoning behind it? or just something people say?

There was a time when gels were probably not so good for your hair (alcohol used to be a common additive in hair products, especially gels), but things are different today and many gels are completely harmless or even sometimes good for your hair.

It's important to read labels on any product before you use it, whether it's a gel, conditioner, shampoo, serum, or what have you. But no, all gels are not bad for your hair.
