Default Confused about leave-in

I'm a 3a and just started CG a few days ago. I'm currenting co-washing every other day with Suave coconut, rinsing out with Burt's Bee's grapefruit/sugar beet, then using LA Looks Sport Gel for styling.

Do I NEED a leave-in? I've only been rinsing my conditioner out a little bit. Would it make sense to rinse out my BBs conditioner and then put a little bit more on as a leave-in? Or would I need to use a separate leave-in product?

I don't know why I'm so confused about leave-in, but I am. LOL!

Not going to help much but you really just have to try different things and see what works best for your hair. Some people do as you're doing and don't rinse it all out (and therefore don't need a leave-in) some (like me) rinse out their co. then put a leave-in (I find it easier to judge amounts this way) some people don't need any form of co. left in their hair at all.
Sorry, it's just one of those many trial and error things.

I agree with Starmie. It's really all a question of what your hair needs, and even what the weather is doing. If you're liking your hair as it is, then don't change anything. If you feel like your hair is a little dry or needs more definition, maybe you'll want to leave in some of your conditioner.

Fasten your seat belt. This CG thing is one bumpy ride.

Yeah, I agree with them both. It'll take some trial and error. I'm a 3A, too, and I can't leave any of my rinse-out condish in. It always ended up looking and feeling greasy, although whatever condish I was using at the time probably had something to with it. Like Starmie says, I just feel I'm better able to judge how much conditioner I'm getting if I rinse out and then apply leave-in - if needed. I don't always need it and have gotten to where I can pretty much tell by how the wet hair feels and behaves.

Hi KurlyKatie,

I'm fairly new at this also. We have similar hair. My hair looked a lot like yours before I chopped it.

I'm finding that if I don't completely rinse out my condish, my hair is weighed down and looks stringy. So what I am doing is mixing a little of my condish with gel as my leave in...so far so good!

But I agree with Starmie, try different ways and see what works for you.

I agree with the rinse out and add philosophy--more control. Also, the conditioners I use as a rinse out are too heavy for a leave in. My hair used to look a lot like BeachCurlGirl's--since I've started using the more natural products and stopped cowashing and cleansing with the soap bars, it looks like my signature picture.
