The Co-Poo

It sounds ridiculous, but I have a new method I've been playing with for the last several weeks (I know you all haven't heard from me a lot in that window, this semester is just taking all my energy!)

I've been having huge issues with my hair lately. I have zero idea what has caused this, but my scalp is no longer happy with just cowashing. I have had to drastically change my washing routine to counter the build up and the scalp smell. I haven't introduced new products, etc, from when I was cowashing. The only explanation I can think of is that my scalp just isn't happy anymore, maybe something to do with the weather.

Anyway, my issues are not really the point of this topic.

The point is that because of those issues, I had to start using a lowpoo (GTTT) essentially every wash. My hair was definitely drying out, and multiple DTs just didn't do anything. Following the low poo with lots of rich conditioner didn't help. None of the tried and true methods worked.

Then a couple weeks ago I had a thought. What if I could combine cowashing with a low poo?

That's how my "co-poo" as I call it was born.

Here's what I've been doing:
Take a ratio of about 3 parts co-wash conditioner (suave coconut for me) and 1 part low poo (GTTT). Rub palms together, and scrub scalp vigorously. For me, this has been hugely counteracting the dryness. I normally follow this with just some more suave coconut as my rinse out, just because I'm trying to use up this bottle before school is out. I didn't post about this until now because I wanted to make sure it kept working, and it has. No build up problems, no smell.

So if you're a low-poo-er who is feeling the drying effects of low pooing regularly, this may be something to look into.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have not had a problem with the co-wash only, but I will try it if I start having issues!

Hahaha, i 'co-poo'ed' for 7 months straight thinking that was co-washing!!! When i first joined the site, i didnt understand what co-washing meant, and i interpreted it as meaning joining both the shampoo and conditioner together... LOL. the only difference was that I was using strict shampoo. Didn't really make a difference in my hair that i saw... but then again, i was flat ironing at that time...

The Co-Poo! I love it!! I have been doing this too, and it is the perfect solution for me as well. GTTTT + VO5 Vanilla Mint makes a great co-poo combo.

So glad your scalp is happy again!
This is what I called it a couple months ago when I tried this. I posted it somewhere but no one seemed to care I was itchin' to try Curls version of a No Poo because it had cocobetaine so I combined Giov 50/50 with V05 VM. It curbed the PJ.....

I did this while I was transitioning to CG and I might have to do it again now that I'm experiencing a little scalp weirdness. It worked really well for me too.

Jess You could even try mixing the Low Poo with ONE-C? IMO point the old version of No-Poo is thicker than the new version of One-C....

This is a good idea! I might have to try this one out since my scalp is not happy with just co-washing.

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.

I really like the whole concept. It's got cleansing power and doesn't dry me out anything like with a low poo alone, and it also uses much more of the cheaper element (the suave) than the more expensive low poo

What kinds of low-poo are you using, DEL?

Sunshine these days my low poos are Giov 50/50, Avalon Organics Lavender (love this), Dairy Whip or Soap Bars. On occasion I'll use Sally's Generic of Aloe Rid if I feel like I have build up but that's probably once a month or less.

MsG and I were doing a version of this last summer (I think). We were putting in conditioner and then shampooing while the condish was still in our hair. I think that is called Condition/Wash/Condition or CWC.
