Amino Acids
Well I have read a few posts about amino acids and heard the protein was good for fine and or brittle weak hair. I went to an organic store and picked up some amino acids...I made a treatment and put it on the finer parts of my hair the past 2 days straight. Maybe it's just wishful thinking but that part of my hair seems thicker...lately there has been a little more body in that area and I haven't been plopping at all...just letting it drip dry without really touching it. SO what exactly are amino acids supposed to do? Parts of my hair are sensitive to proteins but I'm not sure if they are sensitive to all kinds. So considering the luck I've had with aminos I was thinking of making a solution of that and water...maybe a little oil...into a spray bottle and spraying my whole head with it...leaving it for a bit and rinsing it out. I am off from work all week with nothing to do so I am experimenting.

I am all for anything that makes the user feel that it's working, but I did stumble upon this blog post by the Beauty Brains a few days ago and thought it was an interesting look at amino acids:

kathymack had great luck with it, too. I swear there is so much variation among heads of hair, just about anything is bound to work for somebody. But as the saying goes, "if it feels good, do it."

I think maybe it is working on me...I had some breakage up front and at the temples cause that part appears to be finer....it tends to lay flat too if I don't plop or fluff. I've done 2 protein treatments with just egg and a little protein conditioner and that seemed to help. It seemed more substantial and not as flat. Then I have done 2 treatments with amino acids...etc and it's got more body...more shine and some of the finer bits around my face that can never hold a curl have seemed a little curlier. Weird. So I'm gonna try spraying it all tomorrow to see what happens. If it makes parts brittle I will just do an ACV rinse.

I'd be careful to not over do it. I used to do the Nexxus Emergencee every three weeks. I do this one every 7-10 days.
|
I will. I did it today...it seemed to rinse out pretty clean and and think it's good. Not as big as it usually is but I did have to use my back-up conditoner. I will be heading to Wally-World to get more Suave tomorrow. So far so good though.

you can use egg as DT?

Egg...a little olive oil...some VO5 protein conditioner and maybe a little honey. That was my first protein treatment. Recently I have been adding Bragg's amino acids too.

question... If i'm already using protein (GDLI) a few times a week , do i still need to do treatments?
|
It really depends on your hair's needs (I know -- I hate that answer, too).
I don't really have a routine for protein treatments, even though I do use conditioners and stylers with protein in them. I can tell when my hair needs an extra boost, though, and so that's when I do a treatment. The Zen approach to hair. :) Does GDLI have much protein? For some reason, I thought it didn't have much. |

I think maybe the only reason it's working and it hasn't been too much on my hair since I have done a lot of protein lately...is because I have pretty much avoided protein at all costs for quite a while. It seems that only certain parts of my hair need it regularly.....maybe after a while they won't need it either.

with the egg and oil, do you let it sit on your hair or wash it right out?
|
I let it sit a bit. I have this part around my hairline that's kinda fine so I used a paintbrush to apply it and let it sit for about 20. When I used the amino acids I let it sit for about a hour then rinsed
