Curly hair with straight/curly bangs.

Anyone have bangs with their curly hair?

I have 3a/3b hair but I really want bangs. However, I'm afraid of them looking dumb. If I got bangs, would I just straighten them everyday, even though I know that means major damage. I could get heat protectant spray or whatever to help make it less damageable.

Do any of you have pictures of bangs with curly hair? Thanks!

I'm a big fan of curly bangs! (and I'm really not a fan of curly hair with straight bangs...just my personal opinion) Here's my blog post about how to control curly side-swept bangs...don't know if this is the look you are going for or not.

Straight bangs can only work if your curls or waves start at the point where the bangs end. Otherwise it looks horrible and fake.

Curly/wavy bangs can work, but be carefull not to cut to much hair into the bangs or else it'll look like an overhanging rooftop on your forehead. Avoid anything straight across, unless you intent to wear it sideways. Too 80s, esp. with tight curls.

I really know what not to do, but I never know what to DO. I'm still searching for those perfect, edg-y bangs for curly hair...
2c? 3a? Mostly coarse, but LOVIN' the proteins and fighting overconditioning! My hair is just plain weird

I have straight bangs with my 3b/a curls, though I have to say they don't really "go" if you know what I mean! I've had bangs for 30 years, through many different hairstyles and both straight and curly dos. I tried growing them out about 3 years ago but I just can't stand looking at myself without them (I also got very honest opinions on the subject from my then 11 and 8 year old sons) so I cut them back in again.
I have a side part so my bangs are side-swept, I'd actually like for them to be curly but they won't co-operate. My hair is really quite straight at the top (which I think is why my bangs won't curl) 3a around my face and 3b around the back, so I can kinda get away with it. Tough luck if no-one else agrees cos I can't do anything else with them!
I blow dry and flat iron them every day (without protectant, tut tut!) but they're not at all damaged and it's not much hassle really, but then after 30yrs it's just second nature to me now.
You should look at rudeechick's pictures - she has straight bangs that look good.
Sorry, that was a bit long-winded!

I have bangs and I always wear them straight when they are not pulled back. I don't like my bangs to stay curly because I have a row of ringlets (shirley temple type) across my forehead - kinda like a piglet's tail.

I see nothing wrong with straight bangs and curly hair.
I have curly bangs! Maybe I'm in the minority...but I don't think it looks terrible, at least, I don't think they do on me...so there is hope!
I have pictures in my fotki if you are looking for ideas.

Wavy here. I blow dry my bangs straight almost every day. I self trim my hair at least once a month so I do not worry much about damage. And as they say in Hollywood...it is bangs or botox. I just can't stand to have hair in my face so the scissors come out once that area gets past my eyebrows.
Mod CG since April of 2007.
How to you keep up bangs? Mine tend to be straighter but they grow out and are too long within 2 weeks after a cut. I like them better when they curl but when they go straight , I am tired of fighting them!

Hey, I have bangs. I have them side swept and they kinda blend in with my hair. It depends on what kind of bangs you are looking for. I would choose the side swept over straight across...I personally think it looks better.
I have side swept bangs and I blow them out with my hairdryer but try to leave a small bit of bounce to them so they don't look stick straight. I know they don't quite blend with my curly hair but I tried curly bangs and they just look terrible with my facial features, and I also look much older and more tired without any bangs at all. So straight bangs it is. I don't worry about damage to the bangs because I only have the dryer on them for about 30 seconds and they grow fast and get cut regularly.
3b with a little 3a
Mostly CG, but I love me some amodimethicone.

Cleanse: V05 Kiwi Lime Clarifying Conditioner; CJ Hibiscus Bliss low poo; LLL Green Tea Cleanse
Rinse-Out: Kenra moisturizing conditioner, Redken All Soft (old formula), LVPNG, LVPHG
Leave-In
: Agave nectar plus Sebastian Potion 9 or Aloeba
Style: Dab of QCCC, Re:Coil or Mop-C under BRHG/HESMU combo

I'm a 3a (verging on 3B these days!). I HAVE to have bangs or I cant look at myself, and they have to be either straight or wavy... I need that smoothness around my face or my cheeks chub out.

I gently blow them straight by pulling them downward and aiming the blower over them downward. Then I do a light passover with an iron. They stay straight unless they get wet (like when I run 5 miles or get caught in a downpour).

They may not "go" and I may be the only one who likes them, but they suit me fine

Another straight-bangs wearer here. I've had them on and off for almost 10 years. I've done the short Bettie Page fringe, the long and spiky fringe, the super thick fringe, the parted, piecy fringe, the side swoop...its a fun way to mix it up and have a drastic new look without altering the rest of my hair. I like the look on myself and on other people, and I've gotten a lot of compliments on my hair so it must not look "horrible and fake".
Have several allergies and sensitivities.
Current products
Low Poo/Cowash: Rio Grande Herb Co Negrita and Amole Deep Treatment Concentrate, Magick Botanicals (MB) Shampoo (diluted)
Rinse out/Leave in: MB with apricot kernel and jojoba oils added
Protein Treatment: MB Conditioner for Thinning Hair, IAgirl's protien treatment
Style: MB Gel mixed with LOTD Aloe Vera Gelly

2b-c, need lots of moisture, likes protein in moderation.
I have side bangs, and if I leave them alone, they spiral weirdly. I keep my bangs wavy by pulling them back loosely when they're wet. After they've dried, I pull a flat iron over them, flicking my wrist. It's all very technical.
made up of 98.822% silliness!!

Thanks for all your opinions. I'm feeling a little more confident about cutting my own bangs. I think I'll do them next weekend when I dye my hair as well. (:

I love bangs but hate that options are a little more tricky with defined curls. Wavy girls seem to be able to pull off straight bangs really well. But in my opinion, with tight curls it looks best/most natural to have curly bangs, but of course it never seems to be as easy as just cutting them and letting them curl. My hair texture and density would provide scrappy ringlets across my forehead (fine/thin). However, there is nothing cuter (to me) than some really great curly bangs. Very natural and fun.

Thanks to all who replied. This weekend, I'm cutting my bangs (as well as some split ends) after I dye my hair. I'll post pictures afterwards
