How to avoid weird hair "bunching"?

I'm pretty happy with the texture of my hair, but for the life of me, even when I try to part it in the shower, it always ends up looking super messy and "bunched" up (i.e., a zig-zaggy part, bumps, or more hair on one side of my head than the other), which is especially annoying since I have fine hair and tend to get "bald" spots when this happens.

I know that some posters have mentioned using clips, but how do you ensure that your hair actually looks neat and uniform and has one discrete shape as opposed to curly blobs that pop up every which way?

I have fine parts of my hair too and sometimes it'll clump at the bottom of a strand but up top where its finer it's separated....like a loop. Sometimes some of it gets stringy if I manipulate it too much because of the fine parts. I part or give it general direction in the shower, after I do though I'll step back under the shower spray, and I usually put a little more conditioner in and do a quick rinse. That usually gives me pretty uniform clumps. When it's all done...I just do some gentle squeezes to get the water out and drape an MF towel around my shoulder till it's mostly dry. Then I put in a little AVG.

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.
