I know this is controversial, but....

I've been CG one year so my hair is very healthy and reaching what I assume is its full curl potential. Plus the warm weather is here; bringing with it volume and curl enhancing humidity.

The problem is, my hair is curlier than I like it. It seems to be a full 3b now. DONT KILL ME, but thats not what I want. I like (FOR ME) looser curls/waves.

I am really bummed, cause I LOVED last summers hair (2c/3a) which was obviously due to years of ironing and sulfates etc.....

Am I alone in this? I know most curlies WANT tighter curl... But are there any of you who dont'?

Everyone has their own preference for what they want and like. Nothing wrong with wanting a looser curl.
That's right, I said it! I wear scrunchies!!

I am a sulfate washing, cone slabbing, curly lovin' s.o.b. The CG police haven't caught me yet.

3a/3b
I'm sorry you're not too happy with your curls at this moment. But girl your hair is gorgeous! It'll probably take some time getting used to but I'm sure you'll enjoy your new curl pattern as time goes on.
try putting in your products with your hair even wetter than usual and don't squeeze out as much water when you're drying. It will take longer but the water weight can lengthen your curls. or leave clips dangling on the ends (that's what lorraine massey says she does--who knows??? it could work!)although I can't see doing that myself! i could seriously hurt myself just by turning my head! ha! good luck.

I really appreciate the responses.

I do apply product into soppoing wet hair, and then diffuse from there.

Guess I will have to revisit the products that pulled my curls out a bit too much last year (KCCC, etc).

Thnx

Nope, you're not weird.
In a way I was a bit disappointed when my texture didn't change all that radically after ditching the sulphate and the 'cones, but I actually prefer my hair wavy rather than curly.
I never even went down the route of plopping and what not, although I'm sometimes tempted - just too see how curly I could go.
Curling it in Scotland the modCG way since September 2008.
Long suffering wavy - 2a/b.

If I plopped now my head would bounce away!

I'm gonna retry KCCC and other products I rejected last year when my hair was much less curly.

I don't know how you diffuse, but maybe try not scrunching very much when you do it. I know that my hair dries curlier when I diffuse than when I air dry (which takes 4 hours so I don't do it often!).

Maybe I can approach this differently. After all, for a year I was coaxing curl INTO my hair... now I need to coax some out....

So i am thinking.... I KNOW I could pull some curl out of my hair by raking instead of scrunching.... The problem is that I suspect I will lose my clumps if I rake, AND, at the same time, increase my volume (which is a no-no for me).

Any thoughts on how I could rake and retain and/or reclump?

Well. Kind of.
At least my bits that usually clump will re-clump (what the heck is the point of having an adorable spiral clump under/behind the ear where noone ever sees it?)....but then my hair just does as it bloody well likes anyway.

Diffusing and scrunching at the same time when almost dry helps loosen or relax the curl ( point the diffuser down). For so long I wanted tighter curls but I also like looser curls. It would be cool to see pics of people with tight curls vs loose curls.

My hair did the same thing. I was a 3a and now I'm a 3b. I have a ton of hair so it gets weighed down when it's long (it's very short right now and very curly) so it pulls the curl out. How long is your hair and how thick?
Aw I'm jealous. I'm a 2c or something and I'd love to be a 3. Maybe after a year of CG my hair will do something similair. I do have to agree though, I don't want too much curl, just a some more to make me a 3.

Is it long enough for you to put it into a bun? That seems to straighten my hair more. Can you brush it or comb it out more in the shower (with CO in it) and then not scrunch much at all? Cut out any curl-enhancing stuff you're using, anything with mag sulfate (but you still would want to keep your moisturizing stuff going).

Some of the 4 ladies try to lengthen or reduce curls, so you could probably learn something on those boards; I've gotten a lot of great info over there for improving my dry hair.

As a 2, of course, I wish I had your problem. I dream of having 3b hair, in some other lifetime.
