I can't wait to try this!
A bonnet jumped into my cart at Wal-Mart too! I hope it works for me because this will be awesome for travel. Thanks for the idea!

I've seen them at both Wal-Mart and Sally's and they are on the Sally's website too. But, I think it helps that I live in a racially mixed neighborhood. The bonnets are always in the area where the "ethnic" hair care products are.

I did this using my silk bonnet (small elastic band but I didn't have it on long enough to create the dreaded elastic mark on my head!) yesterday with pretty decent results. But of course, I get so ADD when diffusing I didn't do it that long. So today, I decide to do it again but this time clip my hair before putting the bonnet on. Seemed like such a good idea but not so much. I started to put on the bonnet - felt the clips get caught on something, I continued on knowing that bad things were happening and clips were sliding, moving, etc. So I stopped and flipped back upright...got the clips out verrrrrrry carefully and reinserted and tried again. This time with better luck. Just thought I would share that if you clip before using the cap make sure you really have that cap stretched out before trying to load your hair in there or you, like me, will have cap/clip disaster.
So, after all that, my hair is a bit fuzzy on top where the clips got a bit tangled but overall I like this way to set my ends and it does seem to help with my volume a bit because it kinda squishes my hair all together while it's in the cap.

Brilliant idea!
I have this cap in PURPLE, my favorite color, and have been sleeping in it with my hair clipped for some good 2nd day root volume. Since it's purple I even feel "not so nerdy" climbing into bed with it- it feels fashionable and stylish like a purple beret!!! But my dh thinks the pineapple is cuter!

Misfit, you are a genius!!
Could not resist this satin bonnet when I saw it was only $1.50 at WalMart. Tried the blow dry method today, amazing! I let my hair air dry for a bit, then plopped into the bonnet and dried on full speed, no diffuser.
I was so happy with the mass of bouncy curls that tumbled out when I removed the bonnet! My curl formation was incredible, but what I loved even more was how my hair fell around my face. I normally think my hair is almost a bit too bushy, but it dried really nice, kind of pushed further back from my face.
Also, the drying time was awesome. Diffusing is SO tedious and it takes my hair FOREVER to dry when I diffuse.
Huge thanks to you for introducing the fabulous "MISFIT METHOD"! You rock!!

Hum... this has given me stringlets and fuzziness both times I have tried it. It didn't really save me any time, but it was easier on the back. I guess I'll just stick with regular diffusing.

I tried this today and liked the results. I can't EVER do anything upside down coz it causes me to lose all clumps and get stringy. But I did do this method upside down with no ill affects due to the capped affect!
I clipped and then capped and then dried.
Only problems-- had to hold the cap up in the air to prevent flat top squish when I dried right side up to take breaks to rest my back and, and I couldn't see my hair.

Ah... you failed to mention that in your original post.
I'll have to try it all upside down next time. Here I thought I'd finally found a way to save my back...

Why is it that we curlies have to do everything upside down??? Seriously... I feel like I ought to get one of those back inversion things... then I can hang out in the bathroom like a bat and take care of my hair....

You know, I've had the thought before while plopping:
"What if I just took a blow dryer to my flour sack towel?"
but it was just one of those passing thoughts that I don't follow up on. Sounds like it would work, but with a thinner material like the bonnet. I want to try this!

I spotted these bonnets today at Walgreens -- why didn't I just buy one? They cost @$2 I think. This is the kind I saw (same kind Misfitcurls linked to). Walgreens had them in black, pink, and purple, whoo-hoo! in the "ethnic" hair section. I guess I have to go back to pick one up now that you-all are loving this method so much. Tomorrow I'll try the method using my floursack towel, just to see if it works at all.

I like to think of all that time I spend upside down doing hair stuff as just more opportunities to practice my yoga forward bends. So along with our lovely hair, we will have nice flexible hamstrings and healthy spines.

We could give this pose a Sanskrit name, curlasana, or something like that.

Now, you've sold me on hanging upside down AND I DO have an inversion table. I'm just trying to picture the explanation I would give at the ER when I break my neck drying my hair.

Ok misfits I've done this Thrice and I likey very muchly! What I really love is the way it dries the underneath without giving me volume! Great idea thanks so much for sharing! I did clip first but I used the butterfly clips instead of the metal clips and it worked FABU! R2D2 users you must try this! It solves the problem of not drying the ends!! I even did this with the Deva Fuser and got good results as well, but for me nothing compares to my hoodie dryer.

Believe you me, ER staff have seen and heard it all. I'm quite sure that people do all sorts of unexpected things in those inversion slings, and I'd bet there have been quite a few ER visits as a result. Upside-down hairstyling? The ER staff wouldn't bat an eye over that one!
