My hair has reached shoulder length when dry (woot woot!) but i have a huge problem. my curls on the upper part of my head are becoming waves. My hair is very light n weight and its not super long, so i wasnt prepared for my curls to start stretching. The waves dont hold as well as the curls do n tend to look duller than the curly parts. I want to grow my hair to at least arm pit length but im scared that i wont have any curls to spare at that point and i LOVE my curls. Is there anything i can do?

Well this could possible be your awkward stage, or your hair may just prefer to be shorter.

You can try applying your products different ways, try new products, diffuse, etc

You could be pulling curls out by how you apply product or if you comb starting at the roots. My top isn't as curly if I apply product to it and then work it down. I comb now from the bottom up and it doesn't make my roots less curly.

You could spend some time reading up on what the wavies do to encourage and maintain curl, just in case your routine could be tweaked. Scrunching, plopping, harder-hold gels, maybe more curl-enhancing products, and be sure to keep it moisturized -- those are the things that come to mind.

hmm-thanks. my routine has been working out amazingly well until now-id hate to have to switch it up. Since i hate gel-is there anything out there that is more like a light cream that would hold waves well while keeping my curls nice also?(that is cheap )

I have good luck with ploppling to get my waves to hold more curl. I also use dm coco curl cream with loob over that. My rinse out has been kbb hair milk to off set any dryness the loob might cause.

I think the ploppling has helped the most because I dont get the same results without it. I use flour sack towels to.

You may need some layers at the crown to encourage the curl from the root.

The Ohm Sweet Hair Pudding has a light hold and smells divine. Not the cheapest thing in the world though after shipping. Have you ever tried to make your own flax seed gel? Doesn't get cheaper than that and it probably has the type of hold you're looking for.
