Default Combining products with strange results

Okay, so I looked for this question and didn't see it on here (I apologize if I missed it). Last night I was getting ready to put product in my hair and thought that I would attempt to mix my Biotera curl cream with a small amount of LA Looks gel to give it a bit more hold (I'm VERY new to this and am experimenting). It seemed to mix well in my hand, but as soon as I put it in my hair, I noticed little white clumps had formed and wouldn't break down into my curls. I proceeded to do my best to remove them and applied the two products separately without any problems.

Does anyone know why this happened or how I can avoid it in the future?

I am not sure how you would stop that from happening if they emulsified ok in your hand.

Funny you should bring this up today. I combined Boots and Karen' Super Silky with no issues in my hand but I did apply it to very wet hair. While scrunching this in it started to foam!! I used my curlease to scrunch it out then I applied my gel with no issues. I think it was because my hair was so wet. The gel went in with no problems and it dried ok.

Oh I know what you're talking about- that is exactly what happens to me when I put product in my hair and it is super wet. It is almost as if my hair has reached its saturation point and everything is sort of floating on top. I wonder if this is related to having sufficiently moisturized hair (i.e. if it is well moisturized, your hair's ability to absorb product is reduced)? I say that because the only times I've had that happen are in the past when I've taken really good care of my hair.

Eh, that is the dreaded "cottage cheese" effect.

I think if you search on "cottage cheese," you'll find a number of posts if not threads on this. It's never happened to me, but I've seen references to this occurring many times.

Yes! That is the perfect way to put it, I'll search that. Thanks!

But for me I will get the cottage cheese effect when I mix them in my hand-she did mix them in her hand with no issues but when added to her she got the chunks.

Does it take a long time for it to congeal? I ask because I mixed it in my hand and probably waited a total of 10 seconds until I put it in my hair...

the same exact thing just happened to me tonight, i kid you not! i use the same two products also, and i applied them separately, although with little time in between. i think it happened to me tonight b/c i used too much of each product--my hair usually soaks it up like a sponge, and for the past few days it has been doing okay with the amounts i was using, but tonight i think i overdid it. i'm thinking of doing an acv rinse tomorrow--my hair feels totally weighed down, and it's taking forever to dry.

so i don't think i helped you but at least you know you're not alone!

LOL, it seems like every experience I've had with my hair is shared by someone else on this website. It is certainly nice to know I'm not alone!

P.S. I tried some FOTE AVG and KY (instead of CG- I'm cheap and impulsive) last night, and my hair is super curly and very soft today!
