A really cute updo involves first pulling your hair back into a loose ponytail (or (messy) bun). If some of the hair comes loose on the sides, that is fine. Then, put on a thin headband and push it forward if you want a little bump. Follow that with a second thin headband put roughly an inch behind the first, again pushing forward if you want a little bump between the two headbands. Headbands like this can be bought really cheap at a place like Dollar General.

I love a messy bun secured with hair sticks right now and sometimes I do a poof where I wrap the ponytail holder around all the way once and then pull my hair partly through so it's poofed with curly coming out and I'll add a flower clip. I wear thin headbands with both of these sometimes too.

You might want to check out the book Strictly Curls. It is available at CurlMart, and it really got me started with updo ideas. You can take a look at my updo album in my fotki.

Also, I use a couple of the easier updos from this site.

I like the peacock/tails up style or french twist. I really like Flexi-8 hair clips: http://www.flexi8.com/instructions.html VERY comfortable!

Buns and hairsticks are awesome too, but I always feel a bit unstable. Summer should be fun and carefree! I'm also mildly addicted to Ficcare hair clips, but they are uber expensive. http://www.ficcare.com

I have other up-dos on my blog too.

You can get the Ficcare clips cheaper on ebay FYI. I'll try to post a pic of my poof tomorrow with my 2nd day hair.

Oh dear. That Ficcare website will be horrible for my wallet, I just know it (just like KBB was about 5 minutes ago).

For summer, I really like a french braid or inverted french braid down to my nape, and then a messy bun with whatever hair is left at the end. I've also done two french braids so that they meet each other at the center at my nape, and then gathered the ends into a loose bun.

For something different, I'll do a high messy bun, and for some reason, I get compliments on this way more than you'd think.

I like a messy bun with a thin headband or the tails up look with a flexi8 clip. Those are the only clips that I can actually get into my incredibly thick head of hair without breaking!

Btw, RCC, love the pics of your updos. I don't think I have the patience or coordination to even attempt some of those updos.

If you ever get the chance to try a Ficcare, I highly recommend them. They are incredibly sturdy. Nordstroms usually has a small selection of them.

Thanks! Actually, only one was complicated, and I won't try it again, lol. Other looks waaaay more complicated than they actually are, which I sort of like. It makes people think I have skillz! Mostly they are pretty easy to do.
