None of the mousses I have contain any drying alcohols. Fatty alcohols are ok.

I think the ones I've used in the past contained drying alcohols. Anyway, gel gives me so much more hold. I'm sticking to it. If I'm ever tempted to buy another mousse, I must stop myself. I think mousse and gel together was too producty and made my curls drop.

I do this, too. Gel is my first choice, but JoiWhip comes in mighty handy when I want a change (and a protein jolt).

I need the mousse or root boost for lift at the roots and the gel for rest. I have fine hair that would lay flat if I did not use something to boost the roots. I do not really find the mousse drying, but maybe it is because of the texture of my hair.

I have never used gel until about three months ago when I started CG. I have never been happy with how it makes my hair feel - really dried out and tangly. Yesterday I tried mousse for the first time since the late 80's. LOVE! the hold is amazing and my hair feels soft and the curls are just perfect in terms of shape and volume. If this continues to work for me I'll never use gel again! The one I used has no drying alcohols in it that I can see.

We must, of course, know what mousse you used. Please divulge.

But of course! I used the Beyond the Zone noodle head mousse. It's got one peg modified cone in it. I've got a thread going about it. I'm gonna post some pics on it later this evening so I can show what I'm talking about. here's the link to the thread

See now that's the way I am with gel, I know it doesn't suit my hair but every now and then I think, hmm, maybe this one will work. Never do, always money wasted!

It's mousse for me. I try and try and TRY to use gels, but they just seem to weight my hair down and make it limp looking. I definitely prefer mousse, but I'll keep trying gels because I'm always hoping for a miracle product!

Both. I've been trying really hard to stop using mousse, but since I've used it for years and am only just adjusting to the wonders of gel, it's difficult to break the addiction even though gel is probably working better! I still have a full bottle of HETT mousse, and each time I take a shower it practically implores me to use it! I've assumed for a long time that mousse was just as good, but now I'm considering going cold turkey on it for a while. My hair doesn't like a lot of products, so we'll see what the effect is. I can always use it on occasion if I want to.

I voted mousse, but I DO use gel as well. Well, sorta.
I'm still experimenting and I have yet to find something that makes my hair boing like mousse does. I think my hair is just too fine.
I get nice beach waves when I use gel, but it's much too heavy for my hair... unless I just haven't found the right thing. I dunno, maybe if I difussed or something.
But, technically I use both, again.... sorta.

Gel for sure. I haven't used mousse in years but I never liked the producty feel of it and it didn't have enough hold.

Gel. But if I use mousse I put gel over it. Mousse alone used to make my hair poofy and I am afraid to try it again.
