CJ aloe fix gel

The CJ is way different from regular AVG. It has good oils, some hold, and other nice things. It's a styler and an amazing curl enhancer (for me). In my opinion it's well worth the price.

Didn't like: HESMU, Matrix Biolage Gelee (both too goopy)

This is too funny. I just ordered CK and some more Aloe Fix. I'm so going to try WHC's technique

I really love the Aloe Fix. I haven't had it work on wet hair yet, but gonna try this out as soon as I get the curl keeper!

AVG has little to no hold for most people - I've seen just a few who say it does for them.

I use it almost every time I wash, first thing out of the shower before whatever leave-in and/or styling product(s) I use, not for hold but because it gives me good frizz control, adds some weightless moisture and enhances curls, giving good formation, definition and clumpage. I also often use it day 2 and beyond in a 50:50 aloe:water mist to refresh curls and products.

Whatever else I use, I usually use either BRHG or LA Looks Sports Gel on top for hold. No oils in either.

CJAFG give me little to no hold on its own - I always have to top it with one of my "real" gels. I haven't had much luck with it, but after going thru this thread just now, it makes me want to give it another try on dry hair or in some different combos.

Current Main Rotation: MG217 medicated or Aim2Health 'poos for scalp, YTCarrots or Elucence cond., Spiral Solutions Protein & Deeply Decadent Cond., CJCCCC reg or lite, KCCC, Giovanni LA Hold Hair Spritz + lots more, sporadically

HG Method: Super Soaker + Smasters-ing, brief upside down diffusing w/360o diffuser then clips/clamps & air dry. Newly gray - stopped my henna glosses!

I really, really want to make the AFG work for me. Today I used it as my curl enhancer and topped it with Abba Pure Finish - results weren't great.
I'm going to try using a curl creme, then AFG, then a gel, though I have a feeling that will end up being too much product.
Anyone else have ideas for combos with AFG? Especially for a wavy-curly who needs a stronger gel than AFG to hold her curls in place?

I love AFG. I use a couple dime to quarter size blobs that I rake into my hair. I scrunch in gel after that typically BRHG. I need a firm hold gel because of the extra moisture I get from the Aloe. Otherwise I get the east-west pouf going on.

  • Raked (2) 1/4 t. of Komaza Coconut Hair Pudding (which I see you use, too - I just love this stuff)
  • Next, I raked in (2) 1/2 t. of CJ AFG
  • Lastly, I raked in a single heaping 1/4 t. of Curls Goddess Glaze (but probably any decent hold gel that works for you would do)
You might need more product because your hair is longer (mine is just barely shoulder length, layered and I have lots of hair). I scrunched with my hands, then my curl cloth. Then I clipped, diffused a bit, then finished by air drying.

I really liked this combo - end result had more root curl than usual. I'm in San Francisco, so it's not very cold here but it is damp pretty much year-round.

I'll definitely have to give all these combos a go; but with only doing my hair twice a week I'm slow to get to all the things on my list I want to try. Plus, not every day is an experimentation day :P

I did try melaniesusan's CCCC + AFG + Abba gel combo though. Don't take my word on this, but I think the AFG might have diluted/weakened my Abba gel! Because I did not get the hold I require, and my hair not only fell into waves, but also lacked definition. It looked fine though--really full and kinda bed-tossed-looking.
