Default Recommend a Protein Free Gel Pleeease

I have searched on this forum and I for the life of me can't find a thread or post with someone using a gel that does not have Proteins. If you simply type in Gel in the search box it won't even come up with one post. Which is completely weird.

Anyway, I would like to try using a gel on occassion, but I need one that does NOT have Protein. I found the AO Mandarin Magic Hair Moisturizing Jelly. However, is there something that is a little less expensive that someone can recommend?? I appreciate the feedback.

TIA

ETA: Also, Aloe can't be in the 1st four ingredients. I can only handle small doses of this stuff.

I suspect you haven't seen any specific posts about this because, I believe, there are far fewer gels with protein than without. The only gel that I know of that contains protein is LA Looks the blue one.

Herbal Essences makes 3 gels, Biolage Gelee, BRHG, Curly Hair Solutions - I don't think any of those have protein in them.

Thank you! I will look into those. I was in the 3c and 4a forums and every gel recommended or that others used has protein.

That's great information to have. I'll have to check out some of those posts as I like being able to layer protein and not have to bother with doing treatments. Thanks!

If you use the Google search bar in the upper right hand of the page, you will get better search results. Or, you can use wildcard characters in the forum search to fool the search engine into thinking there are more than 3 characters in your search word.

When I first saw this on another thread I didn't know what it meant, so I thought I would clarify (for those as equally search engine illiterate as I am ) You can just type in "gel*" or add a "wildcard character" to any word that is less than 4 letters long.

BRHG has protein in it. Aura Naturelle Hypo-Allergenic Styling Gel from Sally's is protein free.

Good to know in the future. I found threads when searching, "gels without protein", or "protein free gels" which pulls up every protein and gel thread. Meaning it's talking about protein and/gels but not specifcially gels that do not have protein. It seems like all of the gels geared toward "ethnic" hair has protein from what I gathered on the 3c and 4a boards.

I can now try the following which do not have Protein, Aloe or Alcohol (just in case someone else ever needs this info):

- Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly: Tousling Spray Gel (all of the other HE one's had alcohol)
- Curly Hair Solutions Gel

I forgot to say I was looking for one without alcohol as well. Oh, both of these products do have glycerin for those that would like that bit of information!

Thank you ladies!

Have never seen a gel that contained alcohol except maybe the good fatty ones - doesn't mean some don't, just that I've never seen/noticed, and I do read labels.

The only reason I started using gel last year was to get hold without the alcohol of the hairsprays I'd always used.

Sweet! I will have to stop by Sally's after work!! The bottle says both alcohol and fragrance free which is even better. I love the smell of my condish and hate using products that will cover that up!!

I use 2 without protein - Theraneem Leaf & Aloe vera gel, and Kinky Curly Curling custard.

Giovanni LA Naturals Strong hold gel has Soybean Protein, down the list. I use it too and love it.

It's only protein would be the hydrolyzed silk, and it's at the bottom of the ingredient list - it doesn't seem to cause any problems for most people.

I'm unsure if you are talking about BRHG. But, if you are it's the 5th ingredient.

Water , PVP , Acrylates/Steareth 20 Itaconate Copolymer , Propylene Glycol , Hydrolyzed Silk , Panthenol , Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate , Triethanolamine , Diazolidinyl Urea , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , Methylchloroisothiazolinone , Methylisothiazolinone Parfum (Fragrance) , Hexyl Cinnamic Aldehyde , Benzyl Benzoate , Linalool , Gamma Methyl Ionone , Citronellol , Lilial , Hydroxy Citronellol , Geraniol , Eugenol , Blue 1 (CL 42090) , Red 33 (CL17200)

I've tried using products with it in the 10th - 13th ingredient and I had issues for some reason. Don't want to chance it even though I hear so many great things about the product! Dry hair I can deal with, but itchy scalp I can not! I did get the KCCC from the swapboard and will try that, but I was also hoping to find a cheaper alternative! Going to pick up the Aura Naturelle one today at Sally's and this week-end I will be trying that and the KCCC.

Thank you ladies!

Here are my ingredients, but then I've had mine a few months - it pays to look every time, even when it's a repurchase! Wonder if I'll even like the new formulation . . . .

Rose Water, PVP, Acrylates/Steareth 20 Itaconate Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidiny Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Silk, Octylmethoxycinnamate, Parfum

Finally found this searching and wanted to bump for others who were looking for a protein free gel option.

I was talking about BRHG above - just happened back on this thread when it was bumped up.

I love me some KCCC, but I don't really consider it a gel, per se. Like many, if not most, others, I still usually have to use another gel on top of it for hold.

My BHRG also has the silk protein as the 5th ingredient. I wish I had tried it before they changed the formula, or is what I have the old formula? When I google the ingredients I get them both ways so I can't tell what's new vs old.
