I'm with you on that!!
Takes alot not to educate them on how to take care of their hair. I go out crunchy but only cuz its not time to SOTC yet. If I wait long enough the reward is worth it!!

I should go out with a sign on my back that says "I promise... I SOTC!" because 99% of the time I am out in the morning with crunchy hair because I am always in a rush and pretty much run out of the house straight from the shower

My goodness yes, I want to scrunch crispy hair. I wait all day to scrunch mine, but with all the rock-hard hair I see it could be an all-day SOTC fest.
But I agree with others who want to reach out to the overbrushed closet curlies and wavies. This morning I saw a little girl with curly hair brushed to high heaven. The mom was trying to comb it and it just kept getting worse. I wanted to run over and whip out my purseful of products and help! The look on the girl's face was knowing, though. I hope she's a future NC'er.

YES. Yes. I saw a group of really cute Latina girls at the mall a week or so ago... my hands ITCHED to just crunch away all their stringy, hard hair!!! Oh well, they were adorable anyway.

There's a stunningly beautiful girl who runs a clothes shop my daughter likes to visit regularly. This girl has perfect blonde spirals, but they are so rigid I think you could use them as bed springs! I so want to SOTC and have to put my hands in my pockets to control the urge.

Okay, what I'm wondering is...if they aren't cg, what happens when they scrunch out the crunch?

As one who goes around crunch sometimes, I don't get the urge so much to mess with others. I figure that their hair may not be dry enough yet, or, hell, maybe they want better second day hair, and crunchy first day hair makes that easier.

I agree.
And some people may like the crunchy look/feel.

Oh my gosh, yes! I was on an airplane once, and there was a curly-haired woman a few seats in front of me. She was ripping a hairbrush through her tangles, and the sound of the tearing could be heard clear to the back of the plane! I didn't even know about CG yet, and I still wanted to confiscate her brush!

I don't necessarily want to SOTC but the stringy, crunchy, hard waves bug me. It looks like they raked in some gel and left the house. I just want to tell them to scrunch in their gel and give them a diffuser. If you're gonna put gel in your hair, at least go all the way with the effort.

I used to tolerate crunch because I thought if you had curly hair that was the only way to deal with it without straightening/blow drying.
Now...not at all. Sometimes I still see crunch on straighties who are going for a wavier look, and I'm certain I can tell when SOTC-ing would kill any semblance of waves.

My hair turns crunchy ten minutes after I finish scrunching out the excess. Sometimes I go out that way because my hair is nowhere near dry enough to SOTC, though it will looks exactly the same once it dry (before I SOTC). I always hate going out like that and will only do it if absolutely necessary.

This thread is making me self conscious about my crunch and going out. But for me I can't avoid it really. I can't wash at night usually because my hair won't be dry. It takes so long to try and I want to have no frizz so I wait to SOTC. I've tried plopping but it doesn't work for me. I need to revisit diffusing.

I've been having good results lately going to bed with a damp pineapple - not wet, just damp. I've never tried wet or damp before. Mine's still a little short, but it still works well most of the time - I just do what I'd do to my hair all the way up to the point I'd let it finish air drying if I'd washed it in the morning. Then at the last minute before bed, I pineapple. It's dry by morning.

depends on the gel. it might get like, white-ish cause some gels leave that effect, or it can just puff out. i know i liked my hair crunchy vs soft, because soft just looked like combed out curls on my head!!! so i used TONS of gel and it was crunchy and i loved it! when i first got on this site, the first thing i wanted to know was how to get curls that moved!!!

I really love the crunchy look because when my hair is crunchy, it holds everything in place do there is no room for Frizz/Flyaways.
Last summer I was using a lot of biosilk gel alone in my hair. I know if you ladies saw me it would have driven you crazy.

Haha, my curls always look 'brushed out' even without using a brush! I feel very self-conscious about it now after reading this.
I was sitting behind a girl at a conference who had the most gorgeous curls, but he had badly damaged ends (probably caused from cheap or unsharpened scissors) and it was unevenly cut (probably was straightened when cut and the curl caused unevenness). I just wanted to take a pair of scissors that I had in my purse and start cutting the bad ends out and cutting the curls properly. It was a hard 10 hours of sitting there staring at the back of her head.
