Default Could applying DT to dry hair be damaging

I just applied the wonderful CJ Curl Rehab to dry hair (thought I'd try this) and started thinking maybe this wasn't such a good idea since applying a DT to dry hair probably means handling the hair in a way that ruffles the cuticles. I can't just smooth DT into dry hair, but need to scrunch/press/"massage" it into the hair. And dry hair is more sensitive than wet hair that has been detangled...

Any thoughts on this?

Well actually wet hair is more delicate than dry hair - so it wouldn't be damaging to apply it to dry hair HTH

Wet hair is more vulnerbale, but dry hair (mine anyway) is dense and tangles more, so I have to REALLY work it to get DT into dry hair. Plus I find I need way more DT when my hair is dry.

IMO DTs work better on drier than wetter hair :My compromise is, I shower, then turban wrap my hair for 30 minutes, then apply my DT.

What I do, (which might work for you) is spray my hair with water from a spray bottle then apply my DT.

oh thats interesting. I've always applied mine on soaking hair (never occurred to me to do otherwise!)- would it be more effective then on slightly drier hair? Why is this? Will have to try that next time.

Oooh I didn't know that. I think on soaking wet hair, it's harder for the DT to penetrate the hair as the hair is already saturated with water.

I used to apply to wet hair. Then I got lazy/pressed for time on weekend mornings and started applying to dry hair. I do use a ton more product on dry hair; it just seems to drink in the product. I don't try to detangle it dry when applying DT. I just apply thick and plenty by finger combing and/or scrunching where there are tangles. When it rinses out in the shower, the tangles are gone.

That's why I added the bit about detangled - my hair when wet and detangled is easy to handle. If it is dry and tangled (it was particularly so because I'd been swimming and let it air dry after swimming) then it's more vulnerable to breakage.

I found that my hair had absorbed most of the product by the next morning so I went out without washing/rinsing. The curls were more textured - more of a beachy look, but the way it looked. Touching my hair I could feel that there was some product that wasn't absorbed and it felt a bit sticky - liked that less.

Can't say I noticed a difference between a dry/wet DT after rinsing, so will probably stick to regular DTs (wet hair) for now.

I usually apply DT to damp hair ("towel dried" with a t-shirt). The only DT type thing I do to my hair when dry is apply oil, and leave it on all day. I never apply them to soaking wet hair anymore, because it doesn't seem to penetrate the hair and doesn't make any difference in my hair's appearance. Speaking of DT, I don't think I've done a proper one for quite a while - bad me.
