Please help

My daughter is 9 years old shes mixed and has natural curly hair she has a really good hair texture i straightned her here with a straightner and when i washed it and it dried its not curly anymore she has a little bit of curl under her hair but not on top theres some straight parts and some wavy parts. How would i get the curl back and what could have caused this? Thank You
What do you mean by "straightener" - chemical? Flat iron? Hot comb?

If it wasnt chemical her hair is likely just dried out and needs to bounce back.

DT and let it be.

Rudee's right. The heat can do damage to fine, curly hair. Put a generous amount of a rich conditioner in her hair and leave it on for an hour. Rinse well and work just a little bit of conditioner through her hair and let it air dry. See how that goes and report back to us. Try not to use shampoo with sulfates in it for a few days. Sulfates can be really drying to her hair.

There's lots of good advise on these boards so I would encourage you to check it out for your daughter. We'd all like to help if we can.

What kind of shampoo and conditioner would you recommend? It was a flat iron. Thanks

I wouldn't recommend using shampoo on curly here because many contain sulfates which is very bad for hair, but when I feel the need to I use a sulfate free cleanser like Jessicurl's hair cleanser http://www.jessicurl.com.

I cleanse my hair once or twice a week using a silicone free conditioner like Suave Naturals Cocounut. It doesn't strip hair of the oils it needs to stay hydrated. I use a little bit of it as a leave-in conditioner/styler too. You can read about this shampoo-less method here http://dormroomcurly.blogspot.com/20...ons-table.html

Your daughter's hair is damaged from the heat of the flat iron. It will take a little time for the damage to be repaired. Go to this site also http://www.livecurlylivefree.com to learn about the science of your daughter's hair and take a look around this site. There is a wealth of information here that can help you. Feel free to send me a PM if you would like to discuss anything. I'd be glad to help. Good luck.
