Super-Soaker Method for Promoting Clumps -UPDATED/Video Link

Like Tree23Likes

I found an old bottle of my Curl Junkie Smooting Gellie (love that scent, still), and did the SuperSoaker, which I hadn't done in ages. And great results.

I feel bad I didn't stock up on a bit back when it was available....but with my thinning/aging hair, supersoaking was sometimes problematic. Now that it's longer, I kind of liked the results.

Anyone who used to use the CJ SG have any other products that seem to work similarly? I'd appreciate recommendations. THANKS.

I tried this method after having not used it for a long time and for the past week I have been having the most terrific results!!! I'm really thrilled.

I think it's working better for me now because my hair is in so much better condition than it was when I first joined this site and was learning how to take care of my curls.

I can't believe how fabulous my curls are when I use this method - I'm not even twirling - just super soaking.

Still not getting outstanding 2nd day hair but I'm going to keep trying to tweak the new washcloth method. I got decent results with it, but I think I can improve it. I hope so! Anyway, at least with the Sup. Soaker I can be guaranteed a great 1st day! Yipppee!

Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,
Deep condish: Curl Junkie Curl Rehab
Stylers: Mix Curls in a Bottle into everything for shine. Terrible pj
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.

Hi Rudee,

First of all THAK YOU for putting so much time into teaching us curlies how to do your method. You gave great how to steps and the video was perfect!! I have been a stalker of these forums for a few years... but I had to come out of the closet to write to you!!! I incorporated your method into my routine... I do my hair at night while I sleep. I wasn't sure if it would work with my routine & I am sure I will get different results for those rare times I do my hair in the morning from 'scratch'.

Here is what I did:
In the shower: I use a slightly watered down condition for my co-wash, followed by a regular conditioner (i rinse most of it out). Then I take a tiny bit of conditioner in my palms and detangle my hair under running water, & on rare occasion I will take a "wide' tooth come through my hair to help manage frizz. I cannot brush my hair ever... my hair rebels against it
I started your method while in the shower. I could see it was not the ideal place to do this, mainly because the way the water comes from the shower it was messing with my frizz factor... like it was ruffing it up... so I fixed that with conditioner & stood off to the side to "Super Soak". Still not ideal. Normally I would have done the "Rake and Shake" method (possibly the reason I had stringy curls).
So when I got out of the shower I used "Anti-Frizz Cream (any kind that is not too heavy will work for me). Then I use a lot of gel (most strong gels work for me).
Then I started the "Super Soaker" method over my sink, I could tell the difference as it got Super Soaked!! I did not make a mess After I was finished I added more gel heavily since (plopping and sleeping takes some away). I plopped for about 20+ min (cuz I do my hair while sleeping & it can't be soaked). After plopping I wait another 20 min. before heading to bed. It is important for my hair to have started forming its curl pattern before I can lay down.
I went to bed. I fan my hair out from my neck and lay it out on my pillow. I will lay like this until I start to fade then I will gently turn and lay on my side. Since my hair has been fanned out, it will usually stay like this all night, even on my restless nights (often).
When I woke up my hair was definitely different then my normal days. It was a not stringy!!! I had big fat curls, but they were fluffy... I am positive that was due to my routine of sleeping while doing my hair.
So, I took my spritzer (homemade) and lightly spritzed my hair in the spots that needed it. Then I diffused & sprayed w/spray gel & a final diffuse. Wonderful outcome!!! I have taken a picture for you

I will use your Super Soaker method and continue to incorporate into my different routines... I like that it is so versatile to my hair needs

I hope this post helps others who have tried the method and those who are considering it.

This method is so fantastic! Today I had to dye my hair which usually means it looks hideous after styling because the dye is very rough on the cuticle. I conditioned a lot, and used a little oil as a sealer. Then I used CCCL, Rudee's SS method and rather a lot of CIAB, because it is a very light gel.

Success! This is the first time that my hair has ever looked good on a day when I am using permanent dye. And the great thing is I didn't twirl or do anything but scrunch (I'm feeling very lazy today).

Now I will try to be very careful and hopefully get 2nd day hair tomorrow.

Anyway, you might want to at least give it a try. They're not that expensive - about $7 at Sally's last time I noticed, less if you have a Sally's card.

I tried this today I usually do my own type of super soaker by washing out all of my conditioner and scrunching my soaking wet curls with my chamois. I get good clumps this way and little frizz, however, when I flip my head back over, the back is sort of 'stuck'. So I used to finger comb that back down. Annoying because it declumps the curls there. Hopefully, the SS method will eradicate that little issue! It's messy, though.

I tried this method today and I got the exact opposite result. :P I also used a new product for the first time. I have well formed ringlets instead of curls, but no clumping. I don't know what happened...
I'm going to try this today, thank you very much.
I have collarbone length layered hair, the result of a bad DIY haircut (which I tried to remedy with another bad DIY haircut) and I am still trying products and techniques to find a HG.
TIA. Hope this works
I tried this and had great clumps whilst it was dripping wet but no curl, then it split as soon as I added gel/ scrunched the water out, now have just strings. Maybe not a fair test since my hair is being a nightmare at the moment anyway. Maybe bad product choices.
Just curious as to which products you girls are using as the "base coat", as of today?
Is there a new link to the Super Soaker Method video? I would very much like to watch it but the link originally posted isn't working.
