Hello fellow curlies

I have recently developed what I think is sensitivity to fragrances in conditioners! (I can use a scented shampoo with no problem so I'm inclined to think that the problem is more than just fragrance but for now I will concentrate on minimizing that to see if it helps) Since I have noticed this problem, I have used Paul Mitchell's Moisture shampoo and conditioner, Pantene Pro V's Relaxed and Natural Hair Mask, and just recently switched to exclusively using Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Conditioner. In all cases, I have had no problem shampooing but the minute I begin rinsing out the conditioner I start sneezing and my nose starts running like crazy. I can say that the PM and PPV conditioners are more heavily scented than the TJ so I would have more extreme responses to them.

My response to TJ is so mild that I can live with it (I love how soft it makes my hair feel) but I'm currently searching for something that will provide me with more slip but that is also either fragrance free or very lightly scented (afterall, I want my hair to smell delicious too!). Have any of you experienced this? Does anyone have any suggestions or products they'd recommend??

I don't know if either of these would help you, but I've used 2 unscented conditioners from the natural product area of a local pharmacy.

They don't have different varieties of them - just the one kind. The good news is that they both seem to be CG safe.

I suspect there aren't going to be too many suggestions, because there's very little out there these days that isn't perfumed.

Some of the other health food store brands (Nature's Gate, Mill Creek, etc) don't have added perfumes, but still have a fragrance from the various herbal and flower extracts and oils in them. Even aloe has a scent to it - it just smells like aloe, but it's still a fragrance.

From what I've seen, everything that's a drug store or salon brand has a much stronger fragrance, and it's usually a chemical concoction, not a natural fragrance.

Avalon Organics Olive + Grapeseed conditioner is also fragrance free. I don't know a whole lot of others-I only have to stay away from heavy floral fragrances, not all of them.

Currently Using: Suave Coconut, Aldi's Biolage Conditioning Balm knockoff, LOOB, and LA Looks sport gel....cheap and simple seems to be working better!

Sally Beauty Supply has Aura Hypo-allergenic shampoo,conditioner, & gel.

Jessicurl has fragrance free products and Curls Goddess Glaze is fragrance free.

Free and Clear Shampoo,Conditioner and gel.

My granddaughter is sensitive to fragrance so I have to be careful of what I use. It's tough to find lightly or unscented products that work. Sometimes i have used aloe vera gel mixed with jojoba oil.

You're right...it is hard. Most things either smell very strongly or have no smell at all. I would rather have hair products with light scents but I know they're hard to come by. No matter how great I want my hair to smell, the sneezing/runny nose/pounding headache just isn't worth it! All of your suggestions have definitely given me a great start

It smells a bit medicinal, but it is fragrance free and CG. I got nice shine with this (even after I used it as a leave-in condish!).
