curl junkie - coffee coco curl creme

I bought this about a month ago and I haven't had much luck with it.

I'm not sure if its how I'm applying it or how much...but I end up with a ton of frizz and my hair looks matte (as in not shiny) and it sometimes feels weird. sort of dry and producty. it also tends to look weird at the roots. not greasy but sort of similar. it doesn't weigh my hair down though. even if my hair looks good at first it either starts to look bad by the end of the day or looks horrible the next morning.

I tried using more and tried using less. I get better results when pairing it with a kinky-curly product but can't use it with aloe-fix gel or by itself. even with kinky-curly it can be hit or miss.

the aloe fix seems to be alright. I like that though its not as reliable for me as kinky-curly.

am I doing something wrong or is it just not the right product for me? the jar is almost completely full and I'm thinking of just selling it.

I almost gave up on it too until I found the right combo, and it's now a HG for me. After a leave-in condish, I put it over FSG (I use the one that Bottecelli Babe sells on Etsy), plunked for 5 mins, and then put LALSG on top. SOTC with a little JCS N&S, and I got great curls with no frizz, and even SDH out of it.

Your best bet is to search the forum for CJ CCCC and see what others have paired it up with and the techniques that they're using. I've been doing that for a while, and while some are total misses for my hair type, I've gotten more hits than bad hair days!

She talks about how to use some of her products and also to be careful about how you layer them. If AF doesn't work on top maybe you can try another hard hold Gel? I got very loose waves this time of year using CCCC with BRHG on top. I think for me it will be better in the Winter but a lot of the curlier types are using it in the Summer. My hair does better with Gels this time of year. You didn't say if you're using a LI with it??? You may not need it as the CCCC has a lot of moisturizing ingredients which could also be contributing to the producty feel. Check out this thread too What are your favorite CJ products? for more suggestions. Don't give up too soon sometimes it takes a little patience, it took me months of trying KCCC to finally find a way to make it work. Oddly enough AF gave me more predictable results then KCCC after the very first try!

I used it with only mousse on top and my hair was awesome, so I know it would be even better with a gel. I can use the aloe fix alone, but if you want try a LEEETLE bit under some aloe fix maybe.

kccc worked great for me right away. I never had a learning curve with it. I know a lot of people do though.

I did contemplate quite a while before buying it thinking I should maybe wait until cooler weather....maybe I should have. it doesn't weigh down my hair or anything, it just causes it to frizz like crazy and lose its luster and shine and make it look all dry and kinda gross after a few hours. its strange. I've never had that happen with anything before.

I don't think my hair likes glycerin that much. I was hesitant to buy both the products that I did because of that. I almost bought the gelee one instead. forgot the name of it, but it looked good too. I'm still curious about it. that one doesn't have glycerin.

the aloe fix also makes my hair frizzy but not nearly as much so there might be other things in the coco curl creme that is doing it....

I used to only need one and it was great. but I had way curlier and longer hair....now that its short it takes more it seems.

I'll try the flax seed gel though. I've made it before but I think I was using it by itself. maybe paired with something else it would be better. thanks for the suggestions!

also, what IS LALSG?

so when you use a product for scrunching out the crunch, what does it do? why is it better than just scrunching it without using product? (which is what I do) I've wanted to try the jane carter stuff but its really expensive. I also think I remember not liking the smell of it when I saw it out at whole foods. or else that was another one of her products. one of them smelled disgusting! it might have been the oily/watery one.

it's possible that it just isn't the right product for you.. I've been using it for about 3 weeks now and I use it alone, I apply it to wet hair and at first it always looks bad, like it's going to dry really awful but for me the trick (as I learned on my 3rd day with this) is to apply a little bit at a time then leave it, even if it looks like it's going to dry really crap I do not attempt to 'fix' it, and my hair dries soft defined and shiny.

I have tried it with Milkshake but that just made it too soft and 2nd day hair didn't happen..
Long thick curls, mix of 3b/3c
I've been having great luck with the CCCC this summer. For the past few weeks (except for days when I feel like experimenting with new products!) I've been using maybe a nickel-sized dollop under a pea-sized drop of BRHG. I've hardly had any frizz at all. I don't think I'd be able to use it with my homemade FSG or KCCC, at least at this time of year, because my hair just doesn't need that much moisture. It would just be limp and frizzy.

Where do you find this? On the internet? I'm glad now to be in the States where I can get more products shipped to me! There are som many more options here. Sorry I can't give you advice on it but just the name wants to make me buy it!
I have recently got the CCCC for the first time too. I don't use a leave in condish with it - and I rake it into my hair when soaking wet (2 finger tips full) then I use a denman brush to brush it through, then scrunch it, then apply fsg brush that through then scrunch again, then I scrunch out some of the water with an old T shirt and then plop. I've found that's the best way for me - don't give up on the stuff just yet just try a few different ways of applying it. It doesn't make your curls nice when it works

The jar recommends a pea-sized amount, but I use just enough to cover the tip of my finger, so the 4 ounce jar is going to last forever. I rub it between my hands, SOTC on one side then get another teeny little bit and do the same on the other side. It provides helps with frizz and shine without weighing down my hair or making it look greasy or oily, which is why I use it. HTH!

You just have to figure out what works for you and your environment. I could probably get away with 2 products (just CJ CCCC and a bit of gel) in the front of my hair, but the back of my hair is more dense, frizzy and pretty much a rat's nest. With 99% humidity around here, I've found that I have to use a leave-in with every product, and a hard gel on top of most things or I'll get frizz within an hour of SOTC. Some combos I've tried are less product-y than others (KCCC works but really feels gunky to me, while FSG doesn't seem to be product-y at all). I'm ok with using combos if my hair looks fab and the products are all water-soluble! So do what you're ok with - I'm hoping the CJ CCCC can work for you!

ITA with Ceallachg on the JCS N&S - great shine, reduces any frizz you get with SOTC, and you only need a little amount. It makes my curls feel softer as well.

I love this stuff--but I've found I also need a leave-in with all my products; I use the KBB milk, rake it through, then smooth on the CJ curl cream on top and underneath, and scrunch it in, making sure it's really well distributed. Top it off with a combo of gel and AVG. I've found that if I scrunch everything too much, I don't get enough clumping and I end up with frizzies. If I clump gently, just enough to distribute everything, then it's a great hair day! HTH!
