I found a Sally's in my city, Calgary, and went to check it out yesterday. What a crappy little store! They have three aisles, 2 1/2 of which are taken up by nail supplies and hair appliances. the last 1/2 aisle has hair products, but they're all silicone-laden (yes I checked them all, it didn't take long with such a poor selection) There was no GVP stuff anywhere to be seen. I almost wonder if it wasn't the same kind of Sally's as the american posters are always talking about, but I found it on their website.

Very disappointing.

If you go on Sally's website, they have a store locator and one of the options is Canada. I don't live in Canada, but maybe that will help.

you said it Sister!

I've been to the Sally's near me and they do not stock the GVP line at all and have no intention of bringing it to Canada anytime in the future.

Also, Sally's.com does not ship internationally.

The girl tried to steer me to the "Ion" line but I was so upset I told her that I was never going to buy anything from them ever.... so I had a little tantrum but I'm so darned frustrated at not being able to get a protein treatment w/o mineral oil...we can't get Nexxus Emergencee here either...that's why I'm pouting.

Why don't you try posting on the swap board to see if anyone is willing to sell you some?

Oh, good idea! I've never swapped before so I thought I had to have something of value to swap...I don't so I never considered going there.

thanks for suggesting that.

Do you have Joico products? The website probably has a locator...

The Sally's version in knockoff of Joico's K-pak Reconstructor.

Or, for protein, your could search for the cherrylola treatment that is homemade.

RCC; I have the Joico K-pak but I'm trying to replace it because of the mineral oil in it.

I'll keep trying, there has to be a way....

i'm also considering doing a modified Cherrylola treatment, w/o the yogurt. I'm going to replace the yogurt with AOGPB conditioner.

My hair really seems to love keratin protein though so, I'll still hunt for that....

Ah, then you wouldn't want the GVP one either because it has mineral oil too.

The liquid keratin brand has a keratin conditioner, but it has amodimethicone for those who avoid that.

Mill Creek Botanicals also has a keratin conditioner. i haven't tried it since I don't like panthenol, and I'm not sure about sodium hydroxide and what it does in a conditioner, but here are the ingredients.

Deionized Water, Stearalkonium Chloride, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol, Cottonseed Oil, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Panthenol (provitamin B5), Balsam Peru, Olive Oil, Retinyl Palmitate (vitamin A), Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), Tocopherol (vitamin E), Rosemary Extract, Barley Extract, Hydrolyzed RNA, Hydrolyzed DNA, Octyl Dimethyl PABA, PEG-100 Stearate, Sodium Caseinate, Sodium Hydroxide, Corn Oil, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Diazolidinyl Urea, Fragrance, Carmine, Caramel.

I think Jason has a keratin conditioner too - more like a regular one as opposed to a treatment one.

Those lines that make "keratin" straightening treatments also tend to make keratin conditioners. You could look into those.

I thought maybe it might have been at the bottom of the list and less than K-pak.

I wish there was a company which would custom make treatments and things according to what a customer orders. That would be so great to add-in or leave-out to a basic CG base whatever ingredients are good/bad for each persons hair. It's just too much hassle though.

Does Sally's in Canada carry the Aphogee line? They have a two minute reconstructor. The Ion brand works well for me too. Our stores are usually a little bigger than what you walked into tho so we have more of a selection- there's usually a whole area dedicated to protein treatments.

I'll definitely check, although I'm not going to hold my breath.

here's the ingredients I got from another board. Do they look CG?

ApHogee 2 Minute Reconstructor Ingredients

Quote:
Water, cearyl alohol, polysorbate-60, behenamidopropylamine behanate, stearalkonium chloride, cetrimonium chloride, cocodimonium hydrolyzed hair keratin, hydrolyzed mucopolysaccharides, sodium-coco collagen amino acids, wheat germ fatty acids, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, arachidonic acid, squalane, avocado oil, acetamide MEA, panthenol, wheat germ oil, jojoba oil, tocopherol, tocopheryl acetate, sulfur, amodimethicone, polyquarternium-10, linoleamidopropyl PG-dimonium, chloride phosphate, tallowtrimonium chloride, nonoxynol-10, cocoyl sarcosine, sorbitol, fragrance, imidazolidinyl urea, methylparaben, propylparaben.
oh pooey! I just noticed the amodimethicone! So that makes it unfriendly right? it's a non-soluable 'cone?

Oh I didn't know it had amodimethicone in it. That's a tricky one. It's not water soluble. For some people it builds up and for others it doesn't. It's designed to not build up but some do report that it does.

true. Also, it might not be so bad for some for infrequent use such as a protein treatment as opposed to the more frequent use of a regular rinse out.
