FSG -- am I not using it right or?

I bought a bottle of BB FSG for both me and my daughter. Unfortunately neither of us like it at all:

Mine has Grapeseed Oil, Agave, Aloe and
little bit Mag Sulf. I adored the smell and used it 4x -- and quite a bit of it for my hair (more than usual product!). It left my hair very soft but very very flat and pulled much of the curl right out..left me wavy at best without any real structured curls. By the end of the day it was the flattest it's been for months. So then I tried layering a gel on top without a leave in, then a gel on top, then put the gel in first and then the FSG. None of these worked.

My daughter had a unique thing happen. She has two completely different textures (one is blond with waves down to the bottom 1/3 which then corkscrews down and the other is black/dark red and kinky--grows up out of her head before it heads back down...so she already has the "halo" of the darker hair that we cannot get rid of so we work with it). When we used the FSG for her (Avocado oil,Honey and Aloe) it completely separated her blondish/brownish type hair from the black/dark red hair...the latter was like a poodle puff on top of her head. Never seen anything like it honestly. While her blondish/brownish more 2C/3A hair looked gorgeous there is no way to handle the more poofy 3C black/red hair that stood straight up!

Now we like the brulee that we got and the Mango/Abyssinian butter. The brulee is good for both our hairs mid day to add some scrunch if we are a bit frizzy or need a little help with the curls. We both use the butter to SOTC and adore it!

So--what am I doing wrong here? none of the ingredients stand out to me as a problem so not sure why our hair reacts this way.

Hmmmm....we love the more natural products and the smells are just scrumptious and everyone else seems to love this stuff.

Help!

I am still waiting for my BB FSG and brulee to arrive and I can't wait. So I haven't used these products yet, but I can offer some ideas that might help you.

For your FSG, perhaps there is too much grapeseed oil and not enough MS (if your hair can handle it). The FSG is supposed to be super moisturizing so maybe you don't need the added oil, especially if you might have fine hair. And maybe the agave is not giving you strong enough hold. Honey may be better. Why don't you try using your daughters FSG and see if it works better for you.

Regarding your daughter's FSG, maybe she is not liking the aloe in the product. I have a mix of fine, medium, and medium/coarse hair with a combination of waves and cork screw curls. I just learned that I cannot tolerate a lot of aloe. It makes my hair poofy.

Now since you both like the brulee, which BB personally told me has lots of glycerin, maybe you need more humectants in your products.

Again these are just thoughts. Maybe others will chime in and help you figure out what is going on. Also, I am sure you can contact BB and explain what happened. She probably can help you figure out what's wrong.

Thank you so much Bela--your ideas sound right on. Maybe we'll switch them out and let her use mine and vice versa.

Since we both clearly love the brulee your idea about humectants might hold very true. Wonder if I add some glycerin to the FSG and maybe some more mag sulfate in mine if it would help.

Thanks again!

*if your hair gets noodly/really stringy and won't unscrunch then there is too much.

also, with FSG, it is really important to get it distributed throughout your hair, and evenly as well. some girls have to rack it through and use a wide toothed comb to get it even and their hair covered.

and talk to BB, she is so nice and i am sure she would know what to do!
