Disappointed with Deva cut and products & need cheering up

So I had my Deva cut today. The stylist was very nice. We discussed my hair, what I want, what she thought, etc. She cut very little off my hair (1/8th of an inch off of about 20 curls). My canopy is very 2bish while underneath is 3A. I had been hoping there would be a way to make the canopy more curly so it matched the other and didn't look so messy/weighed down. She said likely there was not as that was the pattern. She thought it would look better longer---which may be the case and I'm not opposed to it I just didn't expect to hear it would be months of dealing with the "growing" out stage. Took a little wind out of my sails to hear that (can't fault her for honesty though..rather that than the other!)

After the cut she did a Deva set with Deva products. She gave me great instructions and ideas so that is not what disappointed me...Once we were done I had a head of nearly all 2B hair (all my lovely ringlet's were gone ) that basically looks EXACTLY how my hair looked when I started this CG journey over a month ago. Seriously.

I don't know whether to laugh hysterically as I try to juggle other bills to pay the $100 one today or to cry myself to sleep. For some reason since it was Deva cut I didn't realize there would be cones in the products she used. I bought Angell and Low Poo today without looking at the label (I read the CG book by Massey and she says no to cones!) and BOTH have the A cone (water soluble does not work for me) and I'm out that money. I flippin HATE HATE HATE cones as they pull the curl completely out of my hair! The only salvation may be the products may work on my son--but these are too doggone expensive for a 10 year old!

I was hoping to maximize my curl pattern but instead I've gone backwards to the hair I hated. It feels producty, looks like it did prior to going CG, and is limp, lifeless, and dull.

And I have HORNS AGAIN

I even washed it again tonight but I can't get the damn cone out so I'll have to do another poo tomorrow.

I should clarify that the stylist was nice and its not like she did anything wrong -- I mean for the cut it seems very expensive for the little that was actually cut but I didn't say I wanted it really short and she listened which was great. I guess I'm used to a haircut that cuts all my hair.

It's just that I had this expectation I would go in and get a fabulous cut that would enchance my curl and leave my hair feeling great and all that and I'd look better. I've seen great pic's posted here about great cuts that you could really see the difference you know?..realistically I knew since my hair was already short it's not like it would be drastic...I think this was more about hopes.

At first it seemed o.k...I thought it looked just o.k. but after a couple of hours it just flattended out completely and felt icky.

Anyway I'll stop now. I haven't been this depressed in a long time.

Not my stylists fault, he did an amazing job and I will def go back to him. But my hair just really didnt like the deva products. My hair tends to weigh down VERY easily. But he did give me some amazing tips since I was oblivious to the whole CG way before him. He even told me about this site.

I just had to go out and be a PJ. lol I am still testing products but now i know that Deva products are just not for me.

I really wish I could say something to make it all better, but I can't. Maybe you should grow it out like your stylist suggested. If that is you in your avatar, your hair is glossy and healthy! I envy you! lol

I am sure you will find the right products and the right routine. <3

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your cut, that sucks!

One thing i thought of though, are the Deva products 'satisfaction guaranteed'? Many salon products are. If so, you should be able to get your money back. It's worth asking...

I'm sorry that you are disappointed with your cut. One thing I want to mention is that a lot of people go for their curly cuts with curly specialists and don't love their cut right out of the gate. After a week or so of working with the new cut, the tend to post back that they do really like it. I hope with a little time, you will really like it!

Aww I'm sorry you're disappointed with your cut! It can be so hard saving money up for something that doesn't live up to expectations. Hopefully in a couple days, your hair will calm down a bit and you'll enjoy your new cut.

Also, I agree with everyone above. Definitely try to return the products! And if they don't take them back, I bet that someone would be more than happy to buy/trade them on the swap board.

Good luck!
My curl pattern is 2c for the canopy and 3a underneath. I have been growing it out for the last 4 months. The canopy is getting more curly so there is hope that yours will to. Its only been a month since going cg so your hair is still making adjustments to the routine as well.
I totally understand how you feel. The deva products do not work in my hair at all. They pull the curl out and no hold. Although, it work when I first started using it. I don't know if having "cones" in it had anything to do with it but I gave all my deva products away.
I, too, am sorry to hear about your disappointing experience. And I agree that you will probably be able to return those products, and if not, the swap board will gobble them up in minutes!

I know that some people swear by their Deva cuts, but I was pretty unimpressed with mine last year. My normally 3a (verging on 3b) hair looked like 2 when I left the salon. And like you, I found that the amodimethicone in OneC built up on me (but using it once a week or so was fine). The new formulation, though, doesn't have any 'cones. Did they sell you something old?

And I find that AnGel and ArcAngel don't do much for me, either. Plus, I had to use so much of it to get any results at all, it was not at all cost effective.

It's disappointing to go through an experience like this, and of course, you may have just gotten a not-so-talented stylist (niceness notwithstanding). It also sounds like your hair is growing out, so you may have to be patient while it finds its way.

Hugs....

Darn! I am sorry to hear that... I know when something goes wrong with the hair is can be extremely upsetting.
I don't do cones in my hair at all... I've been considering it just to see if it would be a total disaster but now I am scared all over.. Yikes!

Anyway, I hope once you are able to get the silicones out of your hair that it will get better for you. Because if the cut is really good, once you get those out and use your regular products you may end up loving your hair. I think since your hair is not used to the cones in the first place.. it may just be acting a little odd because of that and once you condition it with things that are tried and true..your hair may end up being to your liking.

The good news is that you may be able to give the Deva products back and get your money or you could at least trade them with someone on the Swap and Trade area of the forum!

Best wishes with your hair.. and once again..sorry you are feeling down.
I have Angell and just looked at the ingredients...no cones are listed. Is the label accurate? or have they changed formulas? I will be sad if there are cones in this product as it will eventually cause my hair to freak out if past experience is any indication. hmmm....
*big hugs*

I second (or triple or quaduple) the notion that you should be able to take your products back. Or if not, swap those puppies out!

I hate not liking my hair. I don't know how to deal with it. In the end, its just patience and knowing that its going to be a while for it to grow out, and that its okay. I want longer hair and its killing me that i'm in this halvses state. I feel your pain, and I'm sorry your bummed out.

You guys are all so great. Thank you so much!

After re-doing last night and this morning with my own products it's better but still feels producty. It's also much stringier than usual (weird)

It is a tiny bit shorter than before but not noticably--It's way harder to tell what was cut as my hair doesn't really curl the exact same way with the same curl twice. It looks like I have a few bangs now and they are kind of staging a rebellion--very strange curls. Hm.

I'm thinking it is the sheer number of silicones that my hair was exposed to--They are in the shampoo, the gel, and seems likely the conditioner (although I didn't buy that) may have--she used the One C and the B Leave in (not sure of the name).

My head itches like crazy today as well. I used my regular TJTTT shampoo and then used GVP KPak reconstructor and then followed with some HSH Pumpkin leave in...usually a very good combo for me. It's better so I'm encouraged.

I think it was more my idea of this and maybe it was unrealistic....given that my hair is shorter.

Thanks so much you guys for all the support. It really helps!

Mosuna--my Angell has a PEG 7-Amodimethicone as does the Low Poo.

It is not the water solubility that is a problem for me....even though it never comes out that easily for me as it seems to for others.

The problem is the cone itself just turns my hair too soft, limp, and I loose nearly all the curl and turn into 2A type waves. I don't know if others find silicones cause reduction in curl but this is what they've always done to me.

I *think* I remember reading that they took the -A cone out of everything. However, even though it's out, they were using up the old labels that said it's in there.
Popping in to offer my support!

I dislike the Deva Products (although I LOVE the defuser) because they made my skin break out. I say take 'em back and give your hair some time. You might really end up loving it.

Good luck!

I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience. That is so disappointing. A couple things might make you feel more optimistic though:

1. No one ever styles my curly hair as well as I do;
2. It always takes a few days for my hair to "recover" from a cut;
3. If you've only been CG for a month, you've got a LOT of time to see great improvement. Your canopy is the most damaged and could become much curlier as it gets healthier.

Hopefully, you'll be happy with your hair soon -- or it grows quickly.

I had the same kind of experience when I was so excited about getting a Deva cut in Pittsburgh. The stylist didn't do a real Deva cut, I noticed. She picked up random pieces and cut them bluntly across instead of to an angle.

And I also hated the way my hair looked when I left.

I'm so confused! My bottle of Angell does not have this item listed, but my friend's bottle does. She bought hers about 4 months ago and I just got mine a couple of weeks ago. Hmmmm...
