Dumb Question-How Do U Know If U Need "Hold?" and Why?
am i right in thinking if your hair is not super curly like 3c and up, that you need "hold" so the curls dont loosen throughout the day?

That's one perspective. It also means that my 3b/c curls "hold" and don't swell or get frizzy throughout the day.

I used to use products with "hold" because I always did when I was relaxed. Now I don't because my hair looks the same either way. The other day I did use some hairspray to keep some stray tendrils from falling into my eyes but that's 'cause I could use a trim

i find thats its quite the opposite. im a 3c and use products with "hold" to keep my hair from shrinking or getting curlier as it dries.

I agree with this completely. For my 2b/3a curls, it's more like you said--so my curls don't wilt. But curlier types are like mpgirl described.

I am a 2 something, and when I say I need hold its because my curls do have a tendency to melt throughout the day. I don't so much frizz up as much as my hair will just go almost straight.

You need "hold" if your hair tends to get very frizzy or more "lifeless" throughout the day... I guess I have very low maintenance hair, because since going CG I don't need to do very much with my hair anymore. All I use is a curl creme and I'm good to go!

I know this has nothing to do with the topic, but you have a killer figure!!!! I'm so jealous.
As for hold, I like a lot of hold to stop my hair from expanding during the drying process and to keep my ringlets after I've SOTC.
