Default Need Encouragement

I really, really don't want to straighten my hair for school tomorrow! I didn't straighten all summer and when I straightened my hair for the first day of school I was surprised at how much I didn't like it. It was so lifeless! But I have my crush in one of my classes and I'm afraid he won't like me with curly hair... and that other people won't. I know I shouldn't care what people think but I can't help it. I am working on it though. ;P But anyways, can you guys give me some encouragement? I really need it right now...

Waves and curls are great! Everyone can have straight hair, but not everyone can rock their waves/curls like you can. Your crush is going to notice you more if you don't have carbon copy straight hair like everyone else.....walk with confidence and you WILL be noticed

Honey if they only like you with straight hair then they don't really like YOU now do they? Be yourself and you'll find someone who likes you. Someone else on this board has an excellent quote in their signature... it says "The reward for conformity is that everyone will like you...except yourself."

Thanks guys. (: Both of your comments helped me a lot, and I asked my friend if I should straighten and she said no because it looks good curly and it's not my natural self. Tinah, that is a good quote and whenever I'm feeling like straightening I'll remember that. (:

Jessiness,
Last year when I was growing out my hair I was straightening it every day (don't ask me why...I was not a Curly Girl for some bizarre, unknowable reason). I was getting increasingly frustrated with my hair...and you want to know what it was that caused me to cut it into a super-short pixie cut? The fact that it looked like everyone else.

Your curls are unique and wonderful! I wholeheartedly agree with the other ladies...you will rock your gorgeous hair and stand out from the crowd! Having curly hair is a gift...we are all very lucky, indeed!

Embrace your curls!
Mo

Jessiness- Today when I decided to come up with a new routine for my hair, I realized how much I loved having curls. I love coming onto this board. I love being able to ask questions to people who know. I love how we have different hair types, and straight is just... straight. I love how we need specific products, how we have our own NC language, how we come up with all these crazy routines, and I love how many compliments curls get, no matter what kind of a hair day you're having! People love curls! So don't question your hair, just embrace it! I'm pretty sure this website is some kind of a curly revolution, lol.

They'll all be jealous, even if they won't admit it. As long as you're happy with your curly hair, that's what matters! *hugs*
And if a guy doesn't like you because you have curly hair, he's not even worth your time.

And I looooooooved your avatar picture, smo6767...

And just a note to OP: this saturday I was at a shop and these two girls behind the counter said "hello" and freaked the hell out of me. They had THE SAME IDENTICAL HAIR, meaning, blow-down. I asked them do you do you hair at the same saloon? "Yep" they answered proudly. [!!!] They did not realize they looked like two freaking robots with those pulled-out hairdos that couldnt even move, exactly the same for length, color, "pulling-outedness".

If you start to look out at malls and places you will see what I mean... The robots are all there. :0

Im happy Im not one of them, and Im sure all you beautiful curly ladies are too. We rock.

I bet your crush will like your curls

Just judging by most of the male reaction I got when I stopped straightening my hair and let it go free...the most common comment from men (and women) was "Wow!"

BTW one thing I have noticed about males in general over the years is that a) they are relatively clueless about what is currently in fashion (we girls rip each other apart far more than they do) and b) while they may drool over gorgeous "perfect" looking girls, in real life they usually prefer someone who is friendly, down-to-earth, and fun to be with, even if she doesn't look like a model.

Thanks! I keep thinking about adding an actual picture of my hair for my avatar, but I'm just much too lazy... it takes forever for pics to download on my computer! And you are so right- in every store they are there.

I know exactly what your talking about. I'm starting school on Thursday and just hate going back to the "straightened dungeon" as i call it. I'm literally the only one with curly hair that doesn't straighten it. It's hard. Maybe give the straightening iron to your mom and be all "do NOT let me have this tomorrow!!!"
Hey, maybe the dude will be attracted by it. Something different.
I don't know who has it in their signature, but i saw "curls are a gift" or something like that. I find myself repeating that when I'm feeling down about them. Just remember, if the curls are a turnoff, then the dude is superficial, which isn't special at all.
Good luck,
Amethyst

Do as smo6767's avatar says and be the curly fry in with all the regular ones - stand proud and be your unique self, and you'll be noticed!

Aww you girls are so sweet! You definitely made me feel better. I wore my hair curly today wooo! I loved how moisturized and healthy it felt (my hair feels kind of dry when it's straight!) and a girl told me it was cute. And I asked my friend with straight-ish hair if it looked good and she said she loved it and really wished she could have curly hair! That made me feel a lot better.

Lol I know, i know - you're all right. He's definitely not worth it if he's going to judge me on having curly hair. Anyways though, today I felt a lot more noticed and more happy. Idk why but it felt really good to go curly!

it felt good to go curly because that's who you are!!! and i believe that we look best when we go with what we have -- texture, even color. look around, you'll see what i mean. of course, healthy hair is important, straight or curly; unhealthy hair either way looks bad.
good for you!
