Do you apply everything to soaking wet hair?
I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I read over the super-soaker thread and noted that everyone applied all their products to soaking wet hair...including gel.
I can't follow all the super-soaker methods yet as my hair is too short to plop.
But, what I have been doing is applying my leave-in or curling creams to soaking wet hair...then, I use a t-shirt to scrunch out the excess water. Then, I apply gel. My result has always been kind of stringy curls...and stringy hair.
Now, maybe that is just how my hair is going to be...but, I was wondering if I should also apply the gel to soaking wet hair...then scrunch dry. Until it's long enought to plop. (which will be awhile)
So...guess my question is...do you apply the gel as well when your hair is soaking wet? Then scrunch out the water with a towel?
Jodi

I just rewatched Mysteryflavored's video which I have seen before...and realize that she puts her gel on before she scrunches excess water out with the towel.
I think I may have figured out what I'm doing wrong...can't wait to do my hair tomorrow morning!!

I too apply the gel on soaking wet, then scrunch some of the excess water out afterwards. I get the best results when I really scrunch the gel in very liberally

You may be scrunching out too much. You don't have to have a ton of hair to plop - I use a curlease towel (single layer, not folded) and just wrap it on my head for maybe 5-7 mins (however long it takes me to dry off and get dressed). When I take it off to add gel, it's still pretty wet but not dripping. Works like a charm.

Wookiemouse, are you saying that after you use the curlease towel and then scrunch in gel, you don't use the towel anymore and just let it dry?
I have the same problem as the op because my hair is too short to plop. So basically I am asking, when do you use a towel (after curl creme and before gel?) and how wet do you leave your hair after that?
TIA!

When I apply my gel to soaking wet hair I get bigger clumpier curls. When I towel dry (scrunch) first, I get skinnier curls. My hair is also too short to plop, so I try to squeeze out as much water with my hands as I can (while I am putting in the product)...then I either let it air-dry, or I put a cheesecloth around my hair (gently!) and diffuse through the cloth until my hair is dry enough to take out the clips, then let it air dry the rest of the way until I can SOTC. This usually cuts my drying time down to about an hour, instead of 3-4.
I haven't yet tried squeezing with a towel (or t-shirt) after applying gel, as this seems like it would just take out the product. But, enough people do it that I'll give it a try this weekend. If it cuts the drying time down without affecting the curls, that would be great!
HTH!

Thanks for responding! For some reason, even after reading over the posts I was confused. I guess I just have to experiment, with when/how much I dry with a towel.

I put everything in soaking wet and upside down (I stand in the tub while I do this). First, I rake or comb it in -- then I scrunch in a little more. I keep scrunching and squeezing water out, then I scrunch w/ microfiber towel and then plop.
I found that conditioning, rinsing, and applying products upside down and soaking wet while scrunching was the key for nice clumps. I really don't know why upside down makes such a difference; but if I do it right side up I get stringlets.

I apply everything to soaking wet hair, but I can't do any of it upside-down. For some reason it makes my hair shrink up very, VERY close to my head, making it look like I got 5 inches cut off.

IMO plopping is not essential to the Super Soaker; its the soaking that creates the clumps.

I don't apply my stuff to soaking wet hair. When I get out of the shower, even before detangling, I gently squeeze the length of my hair with a microfiber towel. Then I put it over my scalp hair and sort of gently pat the towel along my scalp. Then I apply leave-in (I detangle after that), then the stylers.
If I apply to soaking wet hair it take way too long to dry and doesn't make that much difference to my curls.

I cowash and leave a little condish in my hair, I lean over and squeeze out some excess water, and then I plop for 1-2 minutes. I add a quarter size of gel and then 1/2 handful of mousse. My hair is still fairly wet but not dripping wet.

Applying my gel to soaking wet hair is the single greatest thing I have done to have pretty, clumpy, curls. I flip my head over in the shower, rake my leave-in through, then rake gel through the back, then the front, then finally one more blob scrunched in. I hardly have any crunch to scrunch out with this method. Just soft, bouncy curls!
