OMG falling out

shower, i looked over and literally dripping down my shoulder was a ball of hair. This has happend to me before, while at school when im just playing with it. I was just starting to get really excited about my hair because im finally below shoulder length curly. Im freaking out because i think i have lost some length because of this. I purchased the nexxus protein treatment last night and used it on my hair. It seemed to work ok but i am so terrified to wet my hair again. I swear, this is the kind of thing girls would have nightmares about. When i finished my shower, i had an entire palm full of hair :( Btw---i am cg ( aside for the treatment I used). My hair seemed fine until i went swimming a month or two ago. please help *cries*

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I have been there, it's very scary and depressing. Twice now in my life I have lost a lot of hair and it was both times when I was going through a lot and my horomones were all out of whack. Are you very stressed?

If not, look into blood tests, they can check for medical conditions that cuase hair loss (PCOS, low iron, thyroid condition, etc) If it's none of those things I recently heard about amla. It's an ayurvedic herb that is said to penetrate the scalp to strengthen the hair roots and prevent abnormal hair loss, it's what I am counting on if I ever start losing my hair again.

If you are really nervous about this, I agree with KinkyKeeper, get to a dermatologist for some tests - and a piece of mind!

curly haired people don't loose hair like straight hair people and sometimes it comes out like in the shower and it seems like loads (all the hairs that you would naturally lose in a day get tangled in with your curls and its only when you wet your hair and comb or rake through that the lost hairs can get out) but its only what its usual to lose every day. Don't panic too much but as the other curlies say if you're worried then go and see your dr.

Yea, I lose a lot of hair on wash days (which is every other day) Well, it seems like a lot. More than I care to lose anyway! But it is normal to lose about 100 hairs/day according to Dr. Oz.

Same here. The other day I actually had a freak out about it. So I let the hair that fell out dry and then took the strands apart and counted them....yeah, I know....LOL. Guess what? There were less than 100 strands and I only wash my hair 2, maybe 3 times a week...depends on what's going on. So try not to worry too much, like curlyhairmichuk said, we don't lose our hair like the straight haired girls do, it comes out in the shower all at once.

I did the same thing the other day. I wash twice a week, so I collected the last hairball that I combed out in the shower, pulled it apart into individual hairs and counted and was depressed and shocked to have 408 lost hairs in one hairball...I'm not happy, but don't know what to do about it. I've had PCOS for 20+years so that probably has something to do with it, but it provides no comfort to know why it's falling.

were they full hairs with the root ball attached or could it have been breakage?

I completely understand. This has been happening to me since the end of May and it hasn't gotten any better. Every time I wash my hair, I get a palm full of hair. I've had blood tests and I have low testosterone. I go to the dr Monday and I believe they're going to change my bc to see if that helps.

I also let a wad of hair from the shower dry. I stopped at 100 strands. It had to be at least twice that much.

My hair has gotten a lot thinner - it is so depressing to me. I've always had thick, pretty hair, and it just keeps getting thinner. I hope the change in bc works.

Before you panic (I'm sure I've really helped in that situation!) wait it out for a few weeks, I'd say. If it's still coming out, make an appt with the dermatologist and see what they say. Good luck!

Everyone does lose about 100 hairs a day. Its a natural process and new hair grows back. When i go curly and have second even third day hair , since i just refresh my curls by rewetting what product i already have and rescrunch no combing, by the time i shower and comb condish thru i have a lil bit of hair on the comb because i have slepted on it and havent really brushed it out the last 2 days. When i go straight im lucky if i see one hair in the shower. Both my oldest sister and niece , they are curlys also and have always shedded alot more than me it seems wether they go curly or straight but still havea full head of hair. Its just how some people are.

I've never counted the hairs that fall out when I CO wash or WO wash. I definitely lose more on CO wash days, but I think that's because I do more scalp massage. Gentle, but still...

About 6 weeks ago I started taking a B Complex supplement daily. I bought it for stress for DH , but he wasn't taking it, and I didn't want it to go to waste. Plus I figured it had to help my body somehow, since I have periods of major stress at my job. Anyway, I was shocked to see how much my shedding reduced after about 2 weeks on the B Complex. So I give a cheer for trying that. I'm keeping it in my supplement regimen. I don't take extra biotin other than what's in my women's multi.

I never thought to look, probably there's plenty of breakage as my hair tangles and knots if you just look at it....I'm not happy if it's breakage but somehow the possibility eases the sick panicky feeling in my stomache somewhat.
