Default Gel without curl creme underneath?

Do any of you use gel without a curl creme underneath? My hair seems to get gunked up if I use both. Maybe I need to use less?

But I would like to hear from anyone who just uses the gel - what type do you use and how do you use it? How do you dry it?

TIA

I never use a curl cream. I put leave in in my hair when it's wet and then I use gel when it's damp. I rake it through. Sometimes I diffuse just a bit til it gets just a little stiff and then let it air dry the rest of the way. I use BRHG. It's the only one I've found so far that doesn't dry my hair out by the end of the day.

I use a leave-in for almost every gel. Only 2 I can apply straight are Qhemet Honeybush Tea Soft Hair Gel and Curl Junkie Aloe Fix Gel.

Rather than doing two full coats of both the curl cream and the gel, try mixing half the amount of each in your palm then doing one coat. You will still get an even coat of each product but shouldn't get that goopy weighed down feeling. Works for me

I don't ever use curl cream. Gel only. I use several(not on the same day)....KCCC, LA Looks and Deva Curl.
I have never tried curl cream, how does it work?

I do use a leave in or curl creme under gel. Just wanted to say that the Donna Marie MiraCurls Curling Gelly may be just right for you. It's supposed to be an "all in one" product. I used just two pea sized amounts of Paul Brown Goo with it in the high dewpoints--it's really wonderful. Some people are comparing it to KCCC on the 4a forum. It's "lighter." Doesn't dry "rubbery." My hair doesn't get darker. I've had both the formulations--and like them both VERY much.

i am currently experimenting with the curl junkie line. i cannot figure out how or if the cccc works for me. so, as of now, what is working great is the curl rehab conditioner (either the daily or deep) as my conditioner and leave in, then when it is damp/dry, i add the aloe fix gel. the results are great!
today i am going to try adding the gel on wet hair (after i leave in some conditioner). in the past i used it with the curl creme and it did not do anything. now i suspect the curl creme might be too heavy for my hair.
but i am very very very very happy with the conditioners as a leave in and then the afg!!

just responded to your question in the coconut oil thread. Also wanted to add, I use BRHG. It's the only gel that has EVER worked for me, of course, i've only tried 3 total, but still. BRHG is great and has awesome hold but not crunchy.

I have never used a curl cream and don't really know its purpose. However, to answer your question I use a Leave-in and then apply KCCC. That is the only Gel or gel like product I have used.

I'm going to try this. Doing them separately takes too much time especially if doing my hair in the morning. Thanks for the advice.

I use a curl cream (Afroveda curly custard) but not sure why I do other than because I thought I needed one. I use it under gel (Afroveda pur whipped gelly and Ecostyler clear or Ecostyler clear alone). I may see if I can just get away with using a gel. I would save so much money not having to use both.

You ladies are awesome!

I never use a curl cream, but use CK in humidity under my gel. I have been getting good results with Biotera Styling Gel by itself. It is not sticky, does not dry too crunchy, easy to SOTC. I apply it to damp hair, then scrunch.

I use BRHG, too - but if I use it alone, I get too much crunch. I always use it over a curl creme.
I tried using it over CK, but personally, I haven't had good results with CK at all - that was a combo that ended up getting pulled back in a clip *very* early in the day.

I've never used a curl creme under gel. I just use a leave-in and then gel. I think anything more than that would weigh my hair down badly.

I've tried using a curl creme based on some recommendations on this site. But, the curl creme just doesn't work for me. Leaves my hair feeling producty (coated). I just use a gel (have several, really liking Alba Botanica gel right now). Now that the fall weather is coming, I've been adding a leave-in also right before the gel (leave-in I'm really liking now is Alba Botanica leave-in). I find that less products is better for my hair.

I dont need a curl creme, tho I sometimes use one in place of a leave in in the summer.

Fall Winter Spring I just use gel. I love HESMU, very cheap and all purpose.

I use Biotera curl creme after leaving in GVP CB and have great results that way. The last couple of days I left in some Conditioner and just put in the Biotera curl gel and I was pleasantly surprised at the results. My hair is not as shiny when I use the gel alone but with a dot of coconut oil it was much better. Actually, I did that yesterday and I'm wearing 2nd hair now (never did that before).
I have tried using both the curl creme & gel together but my hair came out way too gunky for me. So for me, it's one or the other.

I use curl cream or leave in conditioner with the gel because I find that if I don't I get more frizz and my hair ends up getting a little dry from the alcohol in the gels if I don't first mix it with something moisturizing.
