Another Protein Question
So after discovering that jojoba oil has protein, I looked at the ingredients for AOWC and AOHR (the main conditioners I've been using) and realized they contain jojoba oil. I've been using them because I thought they were protein-free...since I have coarser and low porosity hair, could this be enough to cause my hair to be dry? Are there any good conditioners with literally no protein in them?

Jojoba oil makes my hair a dry, strawlike mess.

So do you react poorly to the amount of jojoba oil in AOHR and AOWC?

AOHR has jojoba, AOWC does not.
I dislike straight jojoba, but love AOHR. But, more people do seem to have reactions to AOHR than to AOWC.

Thanks, I was confused about the jojoba oil being in both. I'm in the middle of a DT with AOWC, Burt's Bees Shea Butter and Grapefruit DT, Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet conditioner, and some honey. It seems like I have to do a DT with heat every day.

They both have Wheat Germ Oil in them as well. Which is protein. I had just started using AOWC and loved how soft it made my hair. But, after using it for a week my hair is dried out. It was my first time purchasing and I won't be making another. Suck cause I kinda liked the herbal type smell it has to it!

Theres's been lots of discussion about Aubrey's labeling not being entirely honest with consumers. Trace amounts of protein in wheat germ oil is hardly "protein rich".
Although I have seen various products advertising that their wheat germ oil contains “many proteins,” the evidence does not support this assertion. I wanted to get the opinion of an expert, so I consulted Professor Dunford of Oklahoma State University’s Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering. He states that some solid granules or particles may get into the oil during the extraction process, which can lead to the inclusion of some small amount of protein in the oil. However, refined oils go through multiple steps of purification, including additional solvent extraction, filtration, and drying. For this reason, most of these oils used in cosmetics and personal care products should contain no more than trace amounts of protein, if any at all.

This doesn't mean there isn't something in Aubrey's formulation of AOWC that doesn't agree with your hair. It also may still be OK to rotate it with another conditioner. I can't use this conditioner exclusively either.

Curl Rehab has some Jojoba. http://www.curljunkie.com/ProductDet...Show=TechSpecs
It's all about how ingredients are combined
AOHR is a mess on me I used to blame jojoba too but I love CJ Rehab and CJ AF and don't get adverse reactions.

Yeah, I really don't get it at all. I even sent an email to Aubrey Organics last week specifically about the AOWC and what was in it that made it "Protein Enriched." They said the Wheat Germ Oil. Despite this I tried it because I didn't think my hair would have an adverse reaction. I do think maybe if I were to up my moisture I could maybe use it once a week. Going to use something else for the rest of the week and go from their. Like I said, I do love the smell. Truly love it and my hair was so soft!
Oh wait a minute. I just realized I left some of it in my hair. Probably should not have done that at all. Will definitely give it another shot next week.

If it wasn't the Wheat Germ Oil that dried out my hair I would love to know which ingredient did cause this effect. Only other ing that are in it that I haven't used before is: White Camellia, Hops, Balm Mint and Extracts of Fennel. Now that I'm thinking about it perhaps it's the Coconutty Fatty Acid Cream Base. Coconut Oil on its own makes my hair dry/brittle. But, I've been using the Curls Coconut Sublime Moisturizing Condish for almost 2 years without any ill effect and it has coconut oil in it. I wish my hair could tell me or came with instructions. LOL

Wheat germ oil isn't protein. Oils contain no protein.

Some people get dry with hops. Plant extracts can have some protein. Coconut fatty acid cream base is really one of the fatty alcohols. Cetyl or cetearyl, I can't remember which and doesn't have the same coconut properties as straight coconut.

When they switched their website design, a lot of product descriptions got mixed up. The description on the website is not what my bottle says. My bottle says nothing at all about being protein rich.

You're right RCC I was referring to the Coconut fatty acid cream base with the labeling issue. The website touts the "rich in protein" stuff about the Wheat Germ Oil in AOWC.
it may not be a single ingred. but the combination in Aubrey that is giving you trouble.

I think I wasn't very clear.
What I meant was that I believe that the online description for AOWC conditioner is actually the on-bottle description for another product. The on-bottle description for my AOWC is totally different. I wondered if the online description for AOWC was for Jay or Island Natural or one of their other higher protein conditioners.
